The Work Benitez Has Completed As Nervous Fans Wait

Wednesday, May 25th, 2016 · 78 Comments

Rafa Benitez is the classic workaholic, who is driven to be successful in his work, and as the agreements with Newcastle – given by owner Mike Ashley 10 days ago – have been drawn up at a snail’s pace – it seems that Rafa is wasting no time in getting down to real work.

So while Newcastle fans are rightly asking questions about why is this thing taking so long, once Rafa is announced as the new manager, we expect a number of announcements to come from Newcastle which should show the club is in pretty  decent shape for the pre-season.

News today that Newcastle have signed up 16 year-old Manchester City midfielder Mace Goodridge, after he had been released by the Manchester club.

He is one of 12 new scholars who have been signed up to the Youth Academy and one question we would have is whether Rafa Benitez or his people have been involved in the choice of any of these youngsters – probably not.

Here is some information on each of the 12 youngsters that’s been put up on the Newcastle United web-site.

Good News For Newcastle Fans On Benitez Move

Wednesday, May 25th, 2016 · 4 Comments

Until the Rafa Benitez deal actually goes through,  Newcastle fans will continue to be anxious and nervous, since it’s our only hope for the future.

But there is news in the Northern Echo today the main reason the contract is taking so long – no Lee Charnley isn’t dithering again – it’s that the agreements have to go through Rafa’s lawyers, who are based in Spain.

Rafa Benitez – deal is happening

But Craig Hope of the Mail offers some hope to Newcastle fans today.

Surely the deal will be announced before this Friday?

It also appears that Rafa has been working through which players to keep and which to move out – and there was news last night that Kevin Mbabu will be offered a two year deal.

We could soon know which players will be released – once Rafa is announced.

There was also news yesterday that Rafa has been talking to a number of Championship managers to get an idea of what things are like in the Championship.

Comments welcome.

Newcastle Start To Offer New Contracts To Players

Tuesday, May 24th, 2016 · 40 Comments

The Chronicle is reporting tonight that it’s their understanding that Rafa Benitez will offer a new two year deal to 21 year-old defender Kevin Mbabu.

The Swiss youth international looked good when he did play for the first team last season and he was especially impressive when he played left back against Chelsea at St. James’ Park at the end of September.

It’s been reported that Rafa Benitez has been mulling over which players to retain and which ones to release, so we may be seeing announcements coming soon.

But that will only happen after Benitez is announced as the new Newcastle manager later in the week – the sooner the better for Newcastle fans.

Newcastle’s European Ranking – Rock Bottom

Tuesday, May 24th, 2016 · 61 Comments

The CIES Observatory in Switzerland have looked at the estimated transfer cost per player in each of the clubs in the five major European Leagues and put together a league table – call it the transfer cost league – based on that figure for each of the clubs.

The five major European leagues were England (Premier League), Spain, Germany, France and Italy and the estimated transfer costs were based on things like age, transfer value and international appearances of the players.

They then looked at the actual finishing position of the clubs in each of the leagues and Newcastle came out to be 10 places lower than their position in the transfer cost  league.
