Here’s the highlights of today’s game from NBC Sports Network – unfortunately it doesn’t show in stoppage time Vurnon Anita kicking off the line and then Newcastle having a three man breakaway when Thauvin almost scored for Newcastle to win the game.

See the next video for other highlights including the stoppage time action.

McClaren Delighted With Performance And Result

Saturday, August 22nd, 2015 · 13 Comments

It was a gutsy performance today from a stubborn and courageous Newcastle side at Old Trafford,  and after being completely on the back foot for the first 20 minutes of the game – which was much like last Saturday’s game at Swansea – the lads improved and showed some threat going forward before half time came.

But Manchester United were in the ascendancy in the second half,  and but for some excellent defending from the likes of Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini, we could have easily lost this game.

But after Vurnon Anita kicked the ball off the line in stoppage time,  we had a three man breakaway and Florian Thauvin only just missed connecting with Cisse’s shot to score  – that could have won the game for us.

Video – McClaren BBC Interview – We Were Excellent In Defense

Saturday, August 22nd, 2015 · 57 Comments

Head coach Steve McClaren was delighted with the clean sheet at Manchester United today.  There were a number of players who had excellent games, but none better than captain Fabricio Coloccini who had an absolutely great game at the back for us.

Mitrovic hit the bar with a tremendous header in the first half, and then in stoppage time we had a fantastic breakaway after Vurnon Anita had cleared off the line from Chris Smalling.

And as Steve says – we should have scored then – and if we had we would have won it.

Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player In Great Draw At Old Trafford

Saturday, August 22nd, 2015 · 106 Comments

There were a number of positives that came out of this game for Newcastle and for all the lack of realize we had last week at Swansea we showed it in spades today and although Manchester United has most of the possession and most of the play, it was Aleksandar Mitrovic who hit the cross-bar with an absolutely brilliant header in the first half – and he was so unlucky it didn’t go in.

Great Rearguard Resilience Gets Newcastle Excellent Draw

Saturday, August 22nd, 2015 · 104 Comments

What we saw today was an excellent rearguard action by Newcastle to stand up to all the extreme pressure Manchester United could throw at the Magpies,  and there were some outstanding defensive performance from the like of Krul and every one of our back four, and we got our first clean sheet of the season and an excellent point at Old Trafford.

At the start this game looked a little like last week at Swansea, when we were overrun, but despite what McClaren said, the players  seemed to have learned from last week and the lads were cutting out the crosses and blocking the shots, and Steven Taylor had an excellent game today at the back.

It was a rearguard action today since we didn’t have one shot on target all game, and all that stats were in the Red Devils favor – except the result.
