Allardyce and Mort Working Well Together

Good news reported in the Sunday Sun yesterday on the growing relationship between Big Sam and the new Newcastle board.

We thought something must have been sorted out because last week’s activity in the transfer market seemed to be with a lot more determination – and certainly speed – which Sam’s been asking for over the last few weeks.

Let’s see what has happened in this area – it makes good reading.

Sam Allardyce and Chris Mort
Starting to work together effectively in the transfer market

This is all to the good for us because smoothing out the transfer process is crucial to Newcastle’s future when hopefully we are all prepared before these transfer windows open. We know who we want, when we’ll go for them, what the wages offered will be – and the length of the contract plus any special provisos. We can really move quickly then.

This will allow us to get the cream of the crop at a good price, before other managers have even returned from their holidays  😀

This is how Sam explained the workings he now has with the Board and Chairman Chris Mort:

“Yeah they are listening, the process is pretty smooth now,”“I compile a dossier, put together the information on a player and give it to Chris.

“I then ask them to progress it. I’m talking to Chris once or twice a week at this stage, we all keep up to speed and we all know what’s happening and what direction we’re moving in.

“We don’t want to miss a transfer by miscommunication. There is a lot of disruption by people trying to stop a transfer you’re trying to make happen.”

“It was nice to do the Alan Smith deal in one day – it’s a miracle!”

“It’s a difficult period because we have so many balls in the air.   Most fall by the wayside but I think it’s better to have more feelers out there. The more you have, the more success you will get.”

This is really good to hear and shows that Chris Mort is not only listening to Sam, but taking it in and quickly changing things so that Newcastle can operate more effectively as a unit. We are impressed with both Sam and Chris for working together on this important part of the business. It augers so well for the club’s future.

Comments very welcome.

Having seem all pre-seasoin games, for me it has to be either Roz or Geremi for captain. All you heard yesterday was Geremi shouting the orders to the boys, he made players work from start to finish and with all good leaders led by example, some great tackles and was still running after the 90! Also, I think they are the only two, other than Shay who will be on the pitch in all games through selection and also fitness record!!!!

    Carr Taylor Rozehnal Enrique

    Solano Geremi Milner

    Smith Viduka Martins

something along those lines i think.

on a different note Allerdyce has said Owen can play against Germany if fit.

im happy as this shows he is not badly injured and should feature for us soon… but if Steve Mac puts him on for 90minutes and we dont see him in the black and white for a few months ill be gutted, i hope Sam has given a 45 minute proviso or something along those lines to safeguard his fitness, cuz i know that given half a chance Steve Mac would run owen into then ground.

Jag, totaly disagree with you ther mate. To replace our best defender(possible captain), with a guy we have never seen play and who has never played in the prem, and to then partner that guy with another newbie to the prem, is just plain ridiculous.

we have 6 strikers…i think we’re trying to offload martins or owen…so that’s the reason why owen will play against germany…

GRAHAM… spill the beans mate….your secrets safe with us toon bloggers……as long as you don’t incriminate yourself and get inadvertently filled in you should be fine….
ANYBODY else think Rozehnal is the next WOODGATE just minus the injuries and a fraction of the price and without the dodgy accent…….
How do you put those smiley dudes on posts?????

I was under the impression (from Setanta Sports coverage yesterday) that Geremi had already been given the captains armband for good?? Anybody confirm that?

Tez, RE: the best team when everyone’s fit, I would go for:

Solano Capaca Rozehnal Enrique (if he proves he’s as good as they say!)
    Milner Geremi N’Zogbia
    Owen Martins

Subs: Harper, Taylor, Butt, Luque, Viduka

But you could do a million different combinations….and I think that’s exactly what we see! I think the centre-backs will remain pretty much the same, with Capaca and Taylor switching occassionally, and the forwards on a rotation basis depending on who we’re playing.

Hammy, if we were trying to sell strikers because we have too many do you honestly think that any manager in the world (even Souness!!!) would sell Martins or Owen instead of Ameobi??? The guy is average at best and has never produced for Newcastle, whereas Owen is proven (if a little (under-exaggeration??) injury prone) and Martins got 17 goals in his first season in England!!
Also, if he wants shot of two strikers, although I would like to see him get his chance, I think that Luque would be given the marching orders after Ameobi.

    Nightfall – your speaking pants.

Smith was not signed to replace anyone, Sam has already said he signed him for his versatility & passion not as a direct replacement for ANYONE, incudling Dyer.

I guarantee you will see Smith play more in midfield than not.

Martins is not getting sold, we are currently re-ngotaing a contract with him… if we wanted to sell him we would not even enter into re-negotiations with him.

How many times does Sam have to tell people that hes not selling Martins? how many times does Martins say he doesnt want to move and hes very very happy at the toon?

HOW MANY TIMES I ASK YOU??!?!?!?!?!?

    and P.S.:

if you read the artcile of the link i posted it will tell you why Sam has let Owen play for England as he says Owen is not match fit he needs at least 2-3 games before hes match fit, hes got 1 or 2 reserve games after Bolton and Sam said the England game is the ideal 3rd game to bring him up to fitness as otherwise we would have to wait for another Reserve game before thinking about putting Owen in the senior eleven! so it means he should be back playing for us sooner than if he WASNT playing for England…. my point was i hope he doesnt play the full 90mins.

    read the articles mate!

steely….true but ameobi doesn’t complain if he doesn’t play… plus we’re not in europe (10 matches less)…but we have 6 strikers who should all have first team football…otherwise they might complain…and if that happens…you’ll se… imagine owen or martins as back up strikers…you really think the’ll be ok with this?? and luque…allready 2 f*&^&ed up years…1-2 more? really?!
we should have no more then 16 established, talented, experienced premier league players, and 10 talented youngster, eager to prove themselves… but 6 stars up front…wtf???
and as for smith…he sucks in midfield… he must play as striker…or sit on the bench…

nightfall, i think you might have missed my point. While I would never moan about it due to our thread-bare squad before the additions, I do agree with you that we have a lot of strikers. My point was that if we were going to get rid of any then Ameobi or Luque would certainly go before Owen or Martins. Ameobi not moaning when he doesnt play is not a good enough reason to keep him in the squad! A player should always be peed off if they dont play, otherwise we would question their will to play.
I think Viduka should expect to be rotated – he isnt the spring chicken any more and I think he wouldnt moan if was an in-out player. I reckon it will be Owen/Martins up front most of the year (unless they dont gel well).
And I agree that Smith isnt the greatest midfielder ever, which is why in my team, he would play just off the two strikers, with a 3-man main midfield.

Graham- It’s just like telly, perhaps it wasn’t fans who egged his house. Although if he has p****d of Biffa Bacons family then he has got off lightly.
Seeing all of the potential team selections, will Owen even get into the side if they click straight into top gear, Sam may have some very nice problems.

just how you have it there Ed. but bring on an injection of pace half way through the 2nd half with the likes of Martins for smith! fresh legs like his on a weary defence, feeding off Viduka who will give him runs to make…magic

with our starting line up looking so good already, it looks like BSA might have a few headaches on who to play come match day!

Don’t think Enrique will play against Bolton (Sam hinted this in an interview, either on nufc.co.uk or in the Chronicle/Journal), so my guess for our starting XI looks like this:

    smith martins

    zog butt geremi milner

    enrique rozenhal taylor cacapa

am i the only one who thinks that viduka doesnt necessarily have to start? smith im sure can hold the ball up pretty well for martins to play off him plus isnt viduka’s fitness in doubt anyway.. i believe butt and geremi should play a holding role in midfield while zog and milner be given the freedom to roam around and attack.

ye sam said it was very doubtful that enrique would start first game, although ive heard zog has been excellent at lb in the last two games there. presuming cacapa is fit(we havent heard anything regarding this yet) and so is given this is what id lke to see.

    Martins Viduka Smith

    Milner Butt Geremi

    Zog Roz Cacapa Taylor

If he wanted 442 Smith could slot abck into CM or RM.

Cant wait to see that line up but replacing Butt with Barton (how comnbative will our midfield be then!), Zog with Enrique and Vid with Owen.

Honestly, can’t understnad why so many people have put Taylor at RB. Hasn’t he failed there in the past?! He is a centre-back and very young, and no matter how good he is just at this moment and how much potential he has, he should probably not be a starter. Eventually I think it will be Roz/Cacapa in defence but until they get more experience it will be 1 of them playing alongside Taylor.

In terms of which striker we would sell if we had to, let me suggest people write out their order of strikers i.e.

    1 Owen
    2 Martins
    3 Viduka
    4 Smith
    5 Luque
    6 Ameobi

That is not to say that I would play Owen and Martins up front together, I just don’t think that would ever work. It will be either Owen/Martins and SMith/Viduka in attack, probably Viduka and Owen as 1st choice.

    For the Bolton game:
