Both Faye and Beye To Sign for Newcastle United

News is breaking that Marseille captain Habib Beye is all set to join Newcastle United.

This was announced on Wednesday evening by the French club’s president Pape Diouf.

Abdoulaye Faye was also at the Newcastle Barnsley Carling Cup game at St James’ Park tonight, so it looks very much like Faye will also be joining Newcastle – with things to be finalized tomorrow.

Habib Beye – joining Newcastle – at last

This is what Marseilles President Diouff said tonight:

“Habib made us aware that he wants to leave Marseille,”

“An English club, Newcastle, has made contact with us and an accord for the departure of our captain is imminent.”

The 29-year-old Beye, who plays at right back and can also play at center back, joined Marseille from Strasbourg four years ago and has made 129 league appearances and scored four times for the French club.

Manager Sam Allardcye had pursued Beye weeks ago and we had a Transfer Update on Beye on July 3rd when it looked likely he would join Newcastle. But Sam was unable to persuade Beye to leave Marseilles at the time – but this is now a real coup for Newcastle and Sam Allardyce.

Beye is heavily experienced and stands 6′ tall and can play either right back or center back and is currently captain of French club Marseilles. The capture of Beye will be another player to fit straight into Newcastle’s defense and it gives Allardyce selection problems with so many tall, experienced and rugged defenders to choose from 😀

It’s also interesting that Habib is captain at Marseilles which is similar to center back Cacapa who captained French club Lyon to six successive French championships. Not only are we getting experienced defenders in who are used to winning but they also have good leadership skills.

The transfer fees for both Beye and Faye, who are both Senegalese, is thought be in the region of ₤2M. Here are some facts regarding Beye – who is a very experienced player.

Habib Beye was born in Paris, is Senegalese and has played 129 times for Marseilles scoring 4 goals. He joined Marseilles in 2003 from RC Strasbourg – where he played 134 games scoring 8 goals and was a firm crowd favorite. He is rated a very accomplished defender in French football and prefers to play at right back – although he is also comfortable at center-back. He made substitute appearances in Senegal’s matches in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, against Denmark, Uruguay and Sweden, and is now a regular feature in the Senegalese starting line up.

We could always get cover (e.g loan) for when the players go out for the African cup of nations in Jan ‘cos iirc they dont start till feb? So imo, theres no point to worry about that until January.

About the 2 signings. Im over the moon with Beye. He’ll be an excellent signing. I dunno how Big sam does it!? And Faye will be a decent signing, good cover, just what we need if we get an injury…

Just got back from watching the match (320 mile round trip). Great that we won.
Zog put in a good stint; was impressed with Butt in 2nd half when he came on despite a few misplaced passes. He must remember we do not play in red.
Very impressed with Cacapa and Enrique. Cacapa is so assured. Well done Sam. He’s certainly pulled the rabbit out of the hat regarding those two.
Just heard that Faye was at the match and that we are going to get Beye. Wonderful news. Much better than Belletti (who I still think is good going forward but suspect defending and gets caught out of position too much).

Great night and good to finally see a couple of goals at SJP.

Did not see the game but from what I’ve heard Enrique did a good job and Zog ran the game and was very creative. If this is true and we capture the two players talked about above we should be looking very solid.

Beye will and should walk straight into the right back position. Enrique needs to play on the left releasing Zog up the left. Milner should go back to the right now and in all honesty whilst I’d hate to lose Nobby as he is such a class professional I’d hate to see an unhappy Nobby even more. If he wants out let him go. With Capaca, Taylor, Roz and Faye in the back we are looking well solid.

Haha clearly everyone has forgot about good ol’ Damien Duff… I know i certainly have! I dont think therell be much chance of him taking the Zog’s spot on the left when he’s fit hey!

We want to be careful, we are starting to look like a good team. Newcastle with a defense? I tell you now that Beye is a great player. Don’t want to jump the gun but if Sam can get u moving up front we could have one hell of a season.

ive been saying this for a while, im not looking forward to Janruary.

we will loose 4 good players for 1 month minimum.

if everyone stays fit we should be ok, but when has anyone stayed fit at the toon?

i still want a creative midfielder though 😀

Newcastle arent the only team with a clutch of African players who will be impacted by the African Nations – we need to have cover sewn up well before January to avoid the rush for replacements.

    @ ED

you ask how Sam did this, im not too sure. But according to L’OM’s president Beye handed in a transfer request after their last game which they lost 2-0, and he said almost immediately an accord was struck with NUFC.

so id like to think that talk of toon being interested made his mind up, because if Sam did actually persuade the player and then the player handed in his request that would be tapping up, only after you have a bid accepted can you persuade the player.

so in my opinion it was down to thefact that Beye knew hes gonna get a pay rise, and maybe hes just given us a few weeks to make sure we werent going to be the joke we have been for the past 2 seasons.

thats what i think anyway, because Sam wouldnt tap a player up, i think Beye was just being very savy with his career, especially at 29 he wanted to make sure he was making the right move imo.

and after watching our performances over the past few weeks hes probably noticed all we lack is a RB and possiby another midfielder.

whys everyone saying were going to win the Carling Cup? Champions League 08/09 here we come 😀 hehe

The Beye deal appeared dead last month so it’s good business if he really is heading to Newcastle.

The new Newcastle management team appear very professional in their actions; i.e. newspapers state we’re after Johnson while behind the scenes we’re after some one else.

Hopefully Beye and Faye sign today but would still like to see cover brought in for Solano if he decides to leave. Let’s hope he stays…..

Tom – there’s a lot of debate whether Shay will start on Saturday – certainly Harper’s done nothing wrong and has looked better than last season to us. We’ll see – there’s no reason to rush Shay back and he’ll get games for Ireland in the European Championship games.

Beye on his way to the Toon. FANTASTIC NEWS!!! Last month when the deal went off at the last moment I was very diasppointed. Now I’m very pleased with this. If he comes, I’m going to be careful cause I don’t want to jell it out too soon, then he and Cacapa will be in the top list of best transfers of the season.
I’m glad Belletti went to Chelsea, cause Beye is IMO a better player; he can build an attack and he is also a very solid and good defender, so overall a fantastic transfer.

The Faye deal takes a lot of time but in the end when the deal will be announced it will also be a very good addittion to our squad. BS knows him very well and I really have a good feeling about the player. So fantastic times are on their way in the northern part of England (in Newcastle off course 😉 ).

    Last point I want to mention is;
Our new board works in a very professional way and they take all the time to build the team. There weren’t transfers during this window which were done in a very fast way (something we did untill last year), so now they are taking care and they think who to bring in and at which conditions.

VERY GOOD WORK BS, Mike Ashley, Chris Mort!!! Can’t wait for the next game, Wigan will be very scared to travel to NUFC.

    @Rich – “Sam wouldn’t tap a player up”

    And you know this how?

Tapping up has gone on since the 1900’s in football, every manager does it one way or another, to believe otherwise is ostrichlike.

Feye & Beye are both Senegalese, they will know each other. A quick word in the ear by BSA then Faye rings Beye and tells him Newcastle are offering £x a week if he wants to come. Simple. No time to mess about with 48hrs of the window left and good luck to him.
