Today is the last day of the transfer window and as far as Newcastle United are concerned they would hope to sign both Abdoulaye Faye from Bolton and Habib Beye of Marseilles.
It’s getting quite late now with less than 16 hours to go to the deadline but we already know Faye has passed his medical and was at the Carling Cup game against Barnsley so we would expect Faye to sign.
Things are a little less cut and dried with Beye, but we still expect him to be a Newcastle player by midnight tonight.
Habib Beye – expected to sign today from Marseilles
Sam did talk about Faye after the Barnsley game and said:
“Abdoulaye is in Newcastle for a medical and we expect that deal to go through in the next 24 hours,”
“Once that is done I hope to maybe add one more player before Friday night.”
It’s a little bit more mysterious about Habib Beye, but only because Newcastle refuse to say anything about the player – not a bad strategy in our eyes.
Habib Bye was quoted as saying yesterday:
“There has been contact between the two clubs. I have asked my boss to reply to this offer favorably.
“Discussions are taking place and I expect them to be favorably concluded.
“I expect the two clubs to come to an agreement soon and the transfer to become definitive…I leave with lots of fond memories but I need a new challenge.
“I wish Marseilles good luck. I have respected the jersey… What is important is that everything is concluded with Newcastle.”
“Another stage in my life is beginning. I believe that the offer has been accepted by the club.
“There are no non-football reasons behind the move. It is simply a career choice, a life-style choice.”
And with Marseilles President having already said that Newcastle were in for Habib and the deal was expected to go through. Beye is thought to have flown in last night from France and reports yesterday that he had already passed a medical are not true. He is here to tie up the deal today and we can only hope that everything has been agreed apart from completing all the paper work. Beye will be another fantastic signing by Big Sam.
But there was almost complete silence yesterday from Newcastle on the transfer front so we’ll just have to wait. It could be that Newcastle want to get both players signed before announcing anything. One thing that’s certain is that the acquisition of these two players will bring to 9 the number of players Sam has drafted into the club and over half of these are defenders. Our defense should be vastly improved almost immediately and the squad in general is very much better than last year.
We’ll await the official announcements and bring you anything that’s a real update on the situation throughout today.

Comment #41Work Permit problems just mean a delay. He won’t be available at the weekend that’s all.
I have a funny feeling we might sign Deco on loan. Don’t ask me why! It just makes sense..
