Sweden under-17 international Soderberg joined Newcastle from BK Hacken in Sweden on the last day of the transfer window.
Olle Soderberg – Newcastle’s new 17 year-old 6’5″ goalkeeper
Olle is around 6’5″ and probably still growing and he spoke to the Official Newcastle United site after completing his move on January 31st:
“I am really looking forward to signing for Newcastle and the challenge that lies ahead.”
“There are lots of great players at this club and I hope that I can learn from the likes of Shay Given.”
Olle has penned a 4.5 year deal at the club, like most of the other youngsters brought in during January. Olle made his Newcastle debut on Saturday when Newcastle United Juniors suffered their first defeat of the year, as Sheffield United put three past Soderberg.
The 17-year-old was unable to prevent the youth team from defeat but Soderberg had a good game, and was not at fault for any of the Sheffield United goals. He also pulled off a couple of excellent saves during the game.
Newcastle United Under 18s: Soderberg, Patterson, Lough, Taylor, Grieve, Wrightson, Marwood. Leadbitter, Donaldson, Neary (Bath, 54m), McCrudden
Subs not used: Inmann, Ameobi, Cook
Soderberg’s favourite player is Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who of course played at St. James’ Park in pre season last year.
We welcome Olle to Newcastle United and wish him all the best in his career on Tyne-side.
This is the last of our articles introducing the youngsters brought to the club in January.
However, we have been asked by readers to continue our focus on youth, and spotlight the five youngsters – with an asterick next to their name- already at the club, in this list of the top 10 teenagers currently at Newcastle United.

Comment #1Lets hope some of these youngsters come good. We have to be looking to the future and for me that also includes the manager. We must keep keegan for r a good 3 years or so, cos that is where our problem has been.

Comment #12I was Ole Söderberg´coach for a season and he is the most talented player i ever seen. I think you will see him in the firstline in 3 years. Trust me. He is the best keeper in sweden at his age and a verry nice guy.
Good luck Ole and keep your head up!
