HT: Newcastle 0 Blackburn 0 – Magpies Miss Chances

nufc-crest.png blackburn_crest.png

Newcastle started off this game like a train and pegged Blackburn Rovers back early in the game but they couldn’t make the breakthrough that would be so important.

But Newcastle had good chances through Alan Smith, Damien Duff and Michael Owen and Newcastle should have been ahead at half time, but each of the above layers was guilty of missing gilt edged chances.

After a tremendous start from the Newcastle side, when they were all over Blackburn in the first 10 minutes, but couldn’t get that vital goal which would have given both the team and the crowd a lift.

Michael Owen – missed great chance after 35 minutes

But one of the best chances of the half went to captain Michael Owen. After 35min Barton freed Owen with a nice chip and suddenly the captain was one-on-one with Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel. Michael rounded the goalkeeper, but the ball got caught under his feet and his shot was just wide of the post. But Owen had a great chance and really should have scored with the opportunity he had.

Newcastle had a lot of the play in the first half and the only mistakes they are making today is not putting the ball in the net from the chances they have carved out against a good Blackburn Rovers side.

But this game is winnable and Keegan has a number of players like Carroll and N’Zogbia who he can bring on. We would expect these to be brought on after around the hour mark, if things are still all square at that time.

We only need a single goal for the 3 points so hopefully the lads will continue and have some luck and get that ball into the back of the net.

It’s certainly a promising first half from the Newcastle team , who are going all out for the win.

Missing chances always ends up with the other team punishing the missed chances. Let’s hope this will not happen today. Once we score 1 we might get a bit of confidence.

    Are there any subs???

Santa Cruz fires the ball over the top of the crossbar after an awful clearance by Steven Taylor.

ObaFan2 what happened with overrated Taylor. If someone can get Blackburn score it will be him. Oh I wished he was not in the team.

Taylor is so bad. I just do not understand why most of the people don’t see that. If he loses us points again today; he must never be in the team anymore. He doesn’t deserve to be in the team over Cacapa. Is KK blind or does he not want to see that Taylor is just an average player. I would even choose Ramage above him.

Looks like KK has his favourites who are first on the teamsheet i.e. Smith, Butt, Barton Taylor – Brum are thrashing Spurs and closing in on us – we need to win this game

    Come on

The defence has looked shaky all match apparantly but it’s understandable considering the amount of goals conceeded in recent games.
We need a run of good performances to improve their confidence, choping and changing doesn’t always help.

steve _ completely agree m8; why Barton, Butt, Taylor and Smith can play every game is a f*cking big mistery. KK is IMO doing exactly the same as SA is doing. He takes wrong desicions and that is why we are in a bad position.

We need to get the 3 points; look at Birmingham; oh my God….

Joey Barton picks up the ball on the halfway line, he plays the ball through to Owen who goes one on one with Friedel but Friedel gets the better of Owen and pushes the ball out for a corner

Oba’s on – great, but why does Smith always have to stay on the pitch? Butt is a better midfielder.
