Newcastle started off this game like a train and pegged Blackburn Rovers back early in the game but they couldn’t make the breakthrough that would be so important.
But Newcastle had good chances through Alan Smith, Damien Duff and Michael Owen and Newcastle should have been ahead at half time, but each of the above layers was guilty of missing gilt edged chances.
After a tremendous start from the Newcastle side, when they were all over Blackburn in the first 10 minutes, but couldn’t get that vital goal which would have given both the team and the crowd a lift.
Michael Owen – missed great chance after 35 minutesÂ
But one of the best chances of the half went to captain Michael Owen. After 35min Barton freed Owen with a nice chip and suddenly the captain was one-on-one with Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel. Michael rounded the goalkeeper, but the ball got caught under his feet and his shot was just wide of the post. But Owen had a great chance and really should have scored with the opportunity he had.
Newcastle had a lot of the play in the first half and the only mistakes they are making today is not putting the ball in the net from the chances they have carved out against a good Blackburn Rovers side.
But this game is winnable and Keegan has a number of players like Carroll and N’Zogbia who he can bring on. We would expect these to be brought on after around the hour mark, if things are still all square at that time.
We only need a single goal for the 3 points so hopefully the lads will continue and have some luck and get that ball into the back of the net.
It’s certainly a promising first half from the Newcastle team , who are going all out for the win.

Comment #96It all started with another bad team selection; okay perhaps we played a descent game and we don’t deserve this but it is a fact. that is reality; if you don’t score you get punished. Watch my post (n°3).
We need to score and then KK puts on a striker who hasn’t scored over 2 seasons, how stupid can you be. KK take your conclusions man; you are not the man to save us.

If we can’t finish off teams when we have the chance to do so, what hope have we got?
Our team cannot keep clean sheets and if we cannot score, then it’s simple, we are going to be relegated.
The table doesn’t lie – we are now only THREE points from relegation and we face LIVERPOOL AWAY next – outcome? We will be in the drop zone next weekend.
Disasterous.

Comment #109Derby, Fulham and Newcastle/Sunderland/Birmingham will relegate this season. And I start to think it is going to be NUFC. Why? Bad players who can play every game and a very bad manager (the first half of the season, but also the 2nd half). If i make a blance between SA and KK;
We should have stick with SA; he knew a bit of tactics; KK does not know anything; he is at the wrong place at the wrong time. Too bad the board lived in the past in January; this is why we are in this position.

Comment #110Well it looks all talk of transfer targets for the summer can be put to bed right now guys. We’re going down, I hate to say it but there is just a feeling of doom about this team and I can’t see us getting out of a scrap with the teams around us. Maybe we can win silverware in the championship.

I’d say Sunderland at St James is now a relagation decider. I think Reading will get much better now- they are a decent team. Hopefully Boro get pulled right in there as well.
Today was a must win. But if we don’t beat Reading and Sunderland at home – and probably Birmingham away too – we will be relegated
