HT: Newcastle 0 Blackburn 0 – Magpies Miss Chances

nufc-crest.png blackburn_crest.png

Newcastle started off this game like a train and pegged Blackburn Rovers back early in the game but they couldn’t make the breakthrough that would be so important.

But Newcastle had good chances through Alan Smith, Damien Duff and Michael Owen and Newcastle should have been ahead at half time, but each of the above layers was guilty of missing gilt edged chances.

After a tremendous start from the Newcastle side, when they were all over Blackburn in the first 10 minutes, but couldn’t get that vital goal which would have given both the team and the crowd a lift.

Michael Owen – missed great chance after 35 minutes

But one of the best chances of the half went to captain Michael Owen. After 35min Barton freed Owen with a nice chip and suddenly the captain was one-on-one with Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel. Michael rounded the goalkeeper, but the ball got caught under his feet and his shot was just wide of the post. But Owen had a great chance and really should have scored with the opportunity he had.

Newcastle had a lot of the play in the first half and the only mistakes they are making today is not putting the ball in the net from the chances they have carved out against a good Blackburn Rovers side.

But this game is winnable and Keegan has a number of players like Carroll and N’Zogbia who he can bring on. We would expect these to be brought on after around the hour mark, if things are still all square at that time.

We only need a single goal for the 3 points so hopefully the lads will continue and have some luck and get that ball into the back of the net.

It’s certainly a promising first half from the Newcastle team , who are going all out for the win.

Michael what a load of rubbish saying that we’re a worse team than Fulham cos they conceded less goals than us against Man U. They beat Arsenal by 4 goals the week before they played us so does that make Fulham better than Arsenal? Of couse not. Muppet.

And if January wasn’t a time to panic buy then when is?

ok this lose was not deserved that’s for sure. The team have some pivotal games coming and we have to keep the support high or else we will most def will be trying to win silverware in the championship. The last thing we can do is change our manager again! Give him a bloody chance their I’d going to be games that you should win and you get unlucky.

We have no one to blame but ourselves and anyone that is calling KK head already should hang there head in shame.

The fact is we have decent enough players, including smith and butt. It’s just that confidence is so very low at the moment. The club keeps shooting itself in the foot by sacking managers before they have really had a chance to change things. Some of the fans that post here are no better.

We battered Blackburn today (who won 4-1 last week btw) and we were unlucky in the extreme. MO had the chances that he would normally eat for breakfast and squandered them.

I do agree there is a chance we could go down, but i don’t agree that sacking Keegan is the answer. He cares about this club and TBH i don’t think that any other manager would be able to do that much better with the same players.

We just need that bit of luck and for the F*CKING players to show the quality that we ll know they have got and we will do ok.

I don’t want to be relegated, but i’m starting to think it might serve as a good reality check to all those fans who think that we are automatic top 7.

Maybe liverpool away will get us a surprise result, theres gonna be no pressure now cos there shouldn’t be one single fan that expects a win.

Here’s hoping COME ON THE TOON!!!

I was devastated when the Board brought Keegan back, purely because I know this game needs tactics. Keegan is not better than a pub pundit.

Were there seriously no other managers we could not entice when we sacked Big Sam? A Baboon would be better than this Jester.

The reason nothing is changes is because there are no tactics, he does not even change formation during a game. He goes on about Motivation, I think motivation or lack of motivation is overstated in the league. Every club wants to stay in the premier league, surely that is motivation enough. We do not need motivation we need competence, tactics.

Because he does not do tactics, he puts the players on the pitch after having “Motivated” them then what ever happens, happens right?

Keegan has not managed since 2004 , watched a game since 2005. Are our results not a testament to this fact.

Macca – I think we are only 3 points off relegation actually. And I think Sunderland will be relegated if we beat them at St James’. That will be such an importnant match because after that our fixtures are West Ham (a), Chelsea (h) and Everton away on the last day.

Things need to change and I think one of the most concerning things are the decisions made for the lineup.

Someone mentionned Emre will be back, very good but he never gets a chance so if inkjured or not he is not supported by the manager. Resulting in very dificult to play good for the little Turk.

Andy1, sorry, you’re right, 3 points off relegation zone, put it down to bad maths or wishful thinking.
No I don’t agree I don’t think that Sunderland will go down, no matter the result at St James, which I think will be a draw or a 1-0 game.
    I don’t know why.
I said from the start that Arsenal would die out and they are.
I said that Man U would fire on and they are. Just a gut feeling.
I think that Reading and Sunderland will stay up. They’ve a lot of character in their team and in their managers. They’ve a big fight in them and I think that today was a turning point in their season, as so many matches were, like with Arsenal today.
I think it was a turning point in ours as well. Now it’s just wait and see to see if we’ve the character in our players to stay up.
I didn’t really agree with Keegan coming, he’s a great history with the club but that’s in the past. It was never going to easy for him. He didn’t have the time to bring in players and I think he overestimated the ones he has now.
Because the way I’m looking at it I don’t know if I honestly can say if a single player would stay if we went down, with the exception of Given and Harper, I don’t think anyone else on the team has the fight or the stomach for this relegation battle.

toon4lyf no way this is a game imo that we cannot win we are not good enough. a team that lacks this much confidence will not beat a liverpool side that are chasing for CL. my personal team for next week has to include edgar, carrol, lua lua, tozer, kadar to name a few give these lads a chance with harper, beye, faye, milner, duff, martins, owen, emre,
DM-Emre (could spray the ball about and tackle)
    AM-Duff (run off the strikers)
    LM-Lua Lua
ST-Martins (out and out striker to shoot from anywhere, even shoot from goal kicks hehe)
ST-Carrol (drop abit deep to nod on)

Subs – Forster, Owen, Kadar, Smith, Butt.
if by anychance we get in front and looking ok bring Carrol off for Butt and play martins up alone and have 5 in midfield as one option to close out the game.

No one should of expected keegan to turn around these ULTRA LOW confidence players. i dont expect a result next week apart from a loss. We will be pulled further down next week but the games against Fulham, Sunderland (makcam f**kers), Birmingham, Reading are the key games and need from the others a few good performances.

    a-liverpool 0pts
    a-birmingham 3pts
    h-fulham 3pts
    a-tottenham 1pt
    h-reading 3 pts
    a-portsmouth 0pts
    h-sunderland 3pts
    a-west ham 1pt
    h-chelsea 0pt
    a-everton 0pt

thats best case scenario and would give us 14 points from our remaining games but i think that is being optimistic. birmingham more like 1 point, spurs 0, reading 1pt and west ham 0pt that would give us 8 pts on what we have and i think that could still be a problem!!! i think 36 points for our season is the least we can expect but anyworse and we are definately gone.
