Emre, the Newcastle midfielder has been included in Turkey’s final squad of 23, for the Euro 2008 Championships to begin on June 7th.
Emre – makes full Turkey squad for Euro 2008
Midfielder Yildiray Basturk, defender Ibrahim Kas and striker Halil Altintop have been dropped from the provisional Turkey squad for Euro 2008.
The trio have joined striker Hakan Sukur as omissions for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland. Altintop’s twin brother, Hamit, has been included, after recovering from a broken foot in March.
Middlesbrough striker Tuncay Sanli is also included in the squad, as is the reported Newcastle transfer target, 21 year-old winger Arda Turan.
Right-back Gokhan Gonul of Bayern Munich has been forced out of the squad after bruising a metatarsal in his right foot. He sustained the injury against Belarus on 26th March and was sidelined for the rest of the German season.
Turkey will play a friendly against Finland tomorrow, before taking on the Czech Republic, Portugal and Switzerland in Group A of Euro 2008.

Comment #4I was watching him against England in 2004 for Turkey on ESPN Classic and you could see his potential back then, shame he hasn’t quite lived up to it, in a Newcastle shirt anyway. I’ll be supporting Turkey, seeing as he is our only player there, assuming Rozehnal wont be returning.

Comment #18Just want to make a slight correction :p
You have 24 names up there in the list. Gokhan Gonul is also out cuz of injury (unfortunately, he was arguebly the best defender we had). Oh and he doesn’t play for Bayern Munich, he plays for Fenerbahce.

Comment #28Haha, well I sure ain’t hopeful for the first game against Portugal. A draw would be great. Everything will shape up in our friendly against Finland tomorrow since that’s going to be our final preparation before the Euros. I’m just hoping we bring our first team up against em.
As for the whole competition, I’d be more than happy if we make it out of the group stage tbh. We’ve got too many young players. At least this will be a nice experience for them.
