Newcastle Target Scores Great Goal For France – Video

Two great goals by presumed Newcastle target Bafetimbi Gomis saved France from some embarrassment as they beat Ecuador 2-0 in their warm up game for Euro 2008.

Bafe Gomis – set Paris alight with his goals

Raymond Domenech’s side were struggling for much of the game and it was the Bafe, making his international debut, who showed them all how to score, with two goals in the second half, to wrap up the win.

Chances came for two former Liverpool strikers Djibril Cisse and Anelka in the first half, but it was Ecuador who could and probably should have scored first.

Carlos Tenorio was through in the center just 8 minutes before half time and even rounded keeper Sebastien Frey before hitting the ball straight at Lilian Thuram, who was able to clear as he fell over.

Gomis’ first goal and his first ever for his country was a fantastic goal.

The St. Etienne striker hit the ball from outside the penalty box past keeper Marcelo Elizaga after 60 minutes, and the ball curled like a rocket into the top right hand corner of the goal.

France didn’t particularly look like a flowing side in Paris last night, well that was before Gomis lit up the evening with his two goals.

It was the St Etienne striker’s first cap, and since he is now on display, it will presumably be even difficult now for Newcastle to close the deal, if better teams come in for the striker.

We think they will, if he keeps on scoring goals like he did in Paris tonight.

Here are Bafe’s two goals.

Comments very welcome.

Very not bad, and that number 14 is Hatem Ben Arfa I think, and I used to always sign him on FM.

Damn good goal that first one…

No. 14 is Hatem Ben Arfa by the way, who will be leaving Lyon in the summer – I’d say we should have a look at him but since Arsenal and Marseille are probably favourites to sign him we haven’t got much chance. He’s probably about as good as Turan to be honest (same position)

Really painful to watch knowing that now we have NO CHANCE of signing him! Fantastic goals in his full cap debut and a proven finisher right there. What a player we have just let slip again!

for every goal he scores in the euros, his value will go up by 1 mill. i’m pretty sure roman is preparing to write a cheque for gomis as we speak.

Well, Well, Well, MyArticle was used by Fans FC in regards to whether Newcastle should sign Bafe Gomis, Check it out!

Fans FC reader Michael Haddrick was excited to hear of Newcastle United Football Club’s latest interest.

The Magpies have been linked with a £14million swoop for St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis, and after we asked if he was worth such a fee, Michael wrote in with his verdict:

“Being a Newcastle fanatic, I have followed this possible target of Newcastle’s for a couple of months now and also saw the player on YouTube as well. I was very impressed with what I saw”.

“Bafe Gomis does have a hint of Didier Drogba about him in regards to his movement and build, crossed with Emmanuel Adebayor in terms of body height”.

“£14million is a lot of money to spend, but with Michael Owen nearly 30-years-old and injury prone, and Mark Viduka over 30-years-old and injury prone, the only GOAL scoring striker we have left is Obafemi Martins”.

“Alan Smith is not much of a goal scorer and it is a mystery to me why he signed in the first place! I would sign Bafe because he is only 22-years-old and would be an athletic foil for Martins in the future”!

I suppose now everybody agrees after his debut, but surely Newcastle will miss out again because they sit on their hands & never deliver on their proposed ‘revolution’.

Stop being link with every player & sign one NUFC, for our sake!

who says we are going for him exactly??? has anyone seem a real quote from keegan or anyone regarding gomis?? we wont be going for him and if we were, his price will be going up and up now saying as he looks so good. its all very well wise and co scouting these guys out when they are raw talent but if we are not going to buy them before they become well known etc what is the point in scouting them at all!!?? We need to buy them as soon a we think they are going to be big, liek we did with the zog. its too late for the gomis deal. his price will double now.

wow i was WTF-ing at his two goals. SHEAR class! the first goal was comparable to big al’s legendary goal against everton! omg buy him buy him buy him!

but actually he only had to hit such a spectacular shot for his first goal because his first touch was crap imo.

Some of you are really jumping the gun. Assumptions are not made on a player on the back of one game. If he has a shocker in his next game, will his value all of a sudden drop?

If we do not try and get Gomis it will prove the insincerity of certain people at NUFC in the transfer market. Someone tell Zog that Wigan want him for 3.5 million. There you are Charlie -that is the price to pay if you leave us! Wigan? Do you really want Wigan my lad? I have found the ominous connection between NUFC and Spurs. Their White Hart Lane ground is in a council ward of Tottenham called Northumberland Park. Sinister if you ask me!!!

Eric…..if we don’t try and get Gomis who is being insincere? Surely the scouting team will be looking at lots of players and assessing them. Keegan is reported to have watched Gomis recently at the end of the season and by all accounts he had 2 poor games.

I don’t want us to jump in unless the scouts and manager are 99% certain it’s right for the club……..it’s a judgement call (remember Stephane Guivarc’h when we jumped BEFORE a World Cup). Not buying now may prove to be wrong in the long run…but a £14 million pound gamble….no thanks!

The Guivarch link does worry me a bit. However if reports are right (big if) then we certainly have seen this fellow quite a bit. Also he is the right type of striker, where he can hold the ball up if needed so Owen and Martin can feed off him. As for Guivarch, he was a bit similar in his make up to Shearer, which did’nt work at all. A bit of variety up front is what we need.

    Seriously, some of you…

‘It’s too late’… Why? Because he performed during one game? One game of football does not make a player, there are a few of you that need to get that through your skulls.

I get the general impression that fans feel there is a gap between what is happening and what they are being told by the NUFC hierarchy. Nobody expects confidential information to be imparted to fans. Especially when negotiations are at a delicate stage. But some reassurance and some indications from all levels of management might help! It does seem that Wise and Co could be more communicative, more obviously in touch with the fan base. They were very ready to come out about new season tickets though. Let’s face it – without us where will they be? I think there are reasons for concern about the informational tactics of NUFC at the moment – even though the club is not owned by the fans it does, in lots of ways, belong to us!

Bolton have been told they will need to pay at least £16m for Sporting Lisbon’s Miguel Veloso. (The Sun)

also when did spurs suddenly have dos santos all wrapped up?

This guy would be an amazing signing for us, can you imagine him and Oba burning up the oposition defence with Owen lurking for any mistakes!!!!

Viduka isnt going to play many games next season, but this guy would set the place alight.

NUFC seem to have learned to play their cards close to their chest for a change. I’ll be more than happy just to see Gomis on the steps of SJP having signed 3 days ago. No problem !!!!

My top 2 targets would be:
ARSHAVIN and GOMIS. These would be 2 players who can add something special to our team. But I’m afraid neither of them will play in black n white next year. Really ahsame, cause if we went for Arshavin in January we would have got him (he told he would love to play for NUFC). Gomis is expensive, okay, but I think he is worth the risk. But I can’t see Newcastle pay that amount of money and like the most here said if he has a good Euro (which he will have) his price will even go higher.

Gomis has very good technique. He gets right over the ball while turning to shoot and gets loads of pace as well as accuracy. If he’ll come to us then cool.
I’d have a cabby at Gudjonnson or failing that McFadden. Realistic targets, IMO.
