Turkish Reports Say Fenerbahce To Sign Emre

There is breaking news in Turkey that top club Fenerbahce have agreed terms with Newcastle for Turkish midfielder Emre.

Emre – reports that Newcastle have agree fee with Fenerbahce?

The Turkish club are hoping to build up on their current squad, and are reported to have agreed terms with Newcastle’s Emre Belozoglu, and with his club Newcastle United.

The Turkish International’s agent Ahmet Bulut has verified the report to be true.

It appears the total cost of the transfer will be about 7M euros to be paid to Newcastle and 3.5M euros per year to Emre.

This is about £5.5M in transfer costs, which is more than the £3.8M Newcastle are reported to have paid Inter Milan for the midfielder in July, 2005.

We do find it hard to believe that Emre will be getting about £2.8M/year at the Turkish club, that sounds unreal. Maybe that amount is over the length of the contract, but we have no idea what the contract length is.

At that time Emre signed a 5 year contract with the club when Graeme Souness was then the manager at the Tyneside club. That contract still has two years to run.

It is also being reported that Fenerbahce’s Chairman, Aziz Yildirim, will announce this transfer during his broadcast on FBTV on June 2nd, which is this Monday.

But we are rather dubious about this report, since there were reports about Emre leaving Newcastle last November.

They came out of Turkey, when Emre was himself playing there for Turkey in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, and all kinds of quotes were being attributed to various officials. and even to Emre himself.

And those reports turned out to be made up nonsense, as we learned later, even though they were widely reported.

They even had Emre saying he wanted to leave Newcastle, and Emre later clarified the situation, by saying he said no such thing, and it was all made up in his homeland.

As far as we know Keegan and Newcastle do not want to sell Emre, and Keegan has said more than once that he sees Emre in Newcastle’s future.

The reports also suggest the signing will not take place until after the Euro 2008 Championships, which to us sounds a little dubious and strange.

Add to that the reports that the Galatasaray club’s board are trying to prevent this deal from going through, and it looks like somebody is playing a joke.

These reports are coming from Turkey, but once bitten twice shy, and if we were pushed we’d have to say we think these reports were made up nonsense.

We want to be signing new players in the summer, and not selling the good players we already have.

But we’ll see – at least the reports are definitely being aired in the Turkish press, we know that.

Comments welcome.

2 center mids needed for sure then… but kk wouldnt have let him go if he didnt have a plan…
emre showed flashes of genuis ( free kick against the scum, great goal against everton this season) but he is very injury prone and lacks consistancy and is very replaceable……..
doubt he’d leave london but what do you guys think about mark noble maybe?

Same, but you’ve got a computer and you just know its there, you have got to check it.

Arda would have been a nice signing but not exactly a badly needed one, we need a CB and AM first and foremost.

Wozza that photo looks like it’s been taken from a hotel balcony about 4 years ago with Emre drinking the contents of the mini bar in his room.

Glad Emre has gone really, injured all the time, had the odd flash of creativity but not enough for my liking. No time for sentiment in this ruthless league im affraid.I just hope the price was right for NUFC. Shouldnt we have waited till after the Euro’s. If he has a blinder … his price (like anyone & everyone who has a blinder in the tourny) would have gone up.

ANYWAYS … I dont care what anyone says … Id like a Van der Vaart.

I wouldn’t cross Newcastle off the list for Arda. Yes he did say that it would be even better if the team he was gonna play in had Emre but he also noted that Newcastle wasn’t a team to be underestimated in any way and that transferring to such a club is rather difficult.

It’s a shame Emre didn’t play much in Newcastle but when it was the national team in question he would play with 110% effort. If you watch the matches he played this year for the national team you might even tip him for man of the match for about half of the matches. Maybe he really did have some difficulties when he tried to play for Newcastle or… he just couldn’t be bothered. Can’t say really. And ye… every Galatasaray fan is raging at the moment I bet (I’m a bit calmer though :p). But he wasn’t our hero. If we were to make an analogy of Alan Shearar going to Sunderland with something I’d say that would be Hagi or Hakan Sukur playing for Fenerbahce. Now THAT would be a shocker.

Back to Arda now. Everyone thought Tuncay was going to Arsenal. But what happened? He went to Middlesborough, a team that offered no European club competition at all. On top of that he didn’t even get a consistent spot in the first team. (Not saying he’s bad ofc, he’s quite good imo). I see loads here wanting Arda, but do you REALLY want him? But like I said before, Arda’s potential to play in the Premiership is uncertain. Can he pull it off? Who knows, and that’s what Newcastle would be gambling on just as well as any other team making bids. I’m no scout and I can’t really tell how he would do, if you can do better than me and tell his potential in the Premiership and still want him then that’s good enough 🙂

But the most important thing is, don’t panic! And even if he does come, don’t expect him to be a Ronaldinho from day one. If you can squeeze out the potential in him though I can guarantee you he’ll be quality. That ‘if’ provides the uncertainty though… I’ve seen many people here praise KK and I’m hopeful he might be the one who can squeeze this potential out of him should he come to Newcastle.

If it’s true, has to make you wonder how much ambition the club really has.

I hate to sound pessimistic but the only things we’ve heard from the club since the season ended are players leaving the club and threats of wage slashing!

like iv’e mentioned i think this emre move will start the ball rolling. kk would never let a player like emre leave without having made plans. All this talk of trouble behind the scenes is a smoke screen to allow us to do business. We re just not used to it after the fat freddy years

It appears the thoughts on Emre are 50/50. I am in the ‘keep him’ camp. When fit, and i know thats a big IF, he is a very good international player. KK is right Emre does offer us something different, in the creativity department.
Also if we are to play 4-3-3 at certain times next season then is this not the perfect formation for an Emre type player to blossom in. With Geremi and Butt winning back the ball, this will free up Emre and allow him to find space and time with the ball.
I just fear with such a small squad, we should be buying players before selling. After all there is no promises that we will be able to buy the players we are after, especially with more clubs appearing to be making initial approaches. Lets just hope Newcastle are also doing this, just instead of doing it through the press like Spurs, are keeping it inhouse fo a change.

    RE Emre

Seems like the turkish press are as bad as their British conterparts. However

    a) I would not be surprised that we do sell him
    b) He will not be a great miss, as he has rarely played and then when picked even more rarely proven to be a match winner.

Doesn’t make him a bad player, just one who for whatever reason does not cut it in the prem.

    Step forward his replacement…..N’Zogbia.

He was born to do it. Has done nothing but whinge about playing wide left, even more so when at left back. He came to the club as a left sided CM and has always wanted to play there. His exposure to the premier league has toughened him up. He’s now up to it.

If Emre leaves we start looking for a wide left player. Make that two. I don’t know if Duff will ever come good in a black and white shirt.

toon4lyf – Emre is not a Def Mid, IF he did stay he needs to be allowed to attack and let someone else do the hard work behind him.

I am really undecided about this, I think I would be sad to see him go. Would love to see him at his best next season. If we did sell we would need to start being in players ASAP to show some intent!!
