There are some daft reports in today’s papers that Newcastle United have been rejected by 8 management candidates, and that up to 11 of our players will want to leave the club in January.
Steven Taylor – smashes rumors he wants to leave
Give us a break – please!
Newcastle United center-back Steven Taylor has today dismissed stupid rumors linking him with a move away from St James’ Park in the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old local lad, who was born in Greenwich, but moved to Tyneside when he was just 2 weeks old, signed a new four-year contract in the summer.
Steven has said the managerial and ownership problems surrounding the club right now, will not force him to consider a move. We suppose he’s used to all the turmoil that has surrounded our club over these last several years. 🙁
Steven told the Shields Gazette today about the reports:
“I don’t know where this has come from, it’s news to me.” “I’m happy at Newcastle United, I wouldn’t have committed my future here if I wasn’t.”
“I just want the fans to know the players are hurting and desperate to turn things around.”
“They’ve been fantastic and got behind us, despite everything that’s been going on, and we want to give them something to shout about.”
Since Kevin Keegan resigned, both Steven and the great Fabricio Coloccini have both been off their top form, and that has cost us some goals in our two defeats.
We have to hope the lads will be a lot better against a poorly performing Spurs outfit on Wednesday evening, and a win would be a great tonic for everybody associated with the club.
We have to have some good news sometime – don’t we?
Comments welcome.

Comment #4What is going on – glad Taylor has spoken out. Is Geremi talking out of his arse? If we the fans and supporters are affected by the carnage meted out by the London mafia on NUFC, then the players must be too. It seems, as has been the case for months, that NUFC fans are getting shafted by Ashley’s London based Committee of Saboteurs and the London based media pundits. It feels like and looks like a conspiracy of unholy shite against NUFC and the north east. Recent press articles have served up a disgraceful barrage of prejudiced insults that are deliberately orchestrated against NUFC fans and Newcastle itself. A national disgrace! I am even more proud of the “Geordie Passport” I bought in Granger Market now. Howay the lads on Wednesday – let us show London what we can really play like.

Comment #7Maybe Taylor should get a part time job in the PR team at newcastle, he loves talking to the media, but atleast this time i’m glad his come out and put bollocks to bed, before to many fans start slagging him off as a trator.

Comment #13Slightly off topic but I see Mike Ashley has just lost £300 million on his bets on HBOS on the stock market

Comment #19Taylor needs to be dropped as he makes the same dumb mistakes year in and year out and is showing no signs of improvement, bench time for him. Bassong now deserves a shot next to Colo.

Comment #20MA is really beginning to piss me off now. This nonsense talk of a 400million price on our club is ridiculous. Is he that greedy? We are not worth a penny over 250-300million in our current state and it is time for him to shut up and sell now. He is just hurting the club by dragging this on.

Comment #24Alex – If that is true, then that alone should be incentive enough for every single fan to get behind the team and support them like nothing else.

Comment #27Just to make a change from the cursing and pissed-off posts, who would fans ideally like to see in as a new manager if we get bought? And who as an ideal interim manager, being realistic? Who would you be least happy with?
Though I never thought I’d say this a year ago, personally I’d go for Sven as a permanent manager (or coach). Least favourite as a choice would probably be Ince.
Choice if interim is a tough one. If it were Venables, I wouldn’t be so unhappy – at least a calm head for a while. If he were given enough autonomy (can’t help thinking of the word fartonomy when I say that, as that’s a word my wife uses!) Venables might even be able to bring in Shearer to help out too. But ideally….maybe Terim?
Least favourite interim? Dalglish praps.

Comment #28Sven is a brilliant coach. However I still think Houlier is the thinking mans choice. I was championing Houlier to come before “the messiah”, meh, arrived.

Comment #34Yeah, in his defence Edgar isn’t a fullback. Though I don’t think he’s strong enough to play CB either…needs to be loaned out I think.

Comment #35@ed – “the great collocini”
I’m not sure what you’re basing that statement on, he’s looked anything but great playing for the toon.
In fact the whole back four have looked suspect this season (not surprising really if we insist on playing zogs at LB, Edgar at RB
