Gonzalez Out For Four Months After Achilles Operation

Bad news today for Newcastle United, in that Nacho Gonzalez, who has been out for several weeks with an Achilles problem, has undergone Achilles surgery and will now be out for four months.

Nacho Gonzalez – out until next March

Nacho has hardly played for the Newcastle side this season, and we had been wondering just when he would return from his Achilles injury, which he seems to have had for a couple of months now.

Why this operation has been delayed by two months we have no idea, but it doesn’t look good, and there has been some mis-diagnosis of the extent of the injury.  This will be even more reason for Newcastle to build up their squad as much as they can in the January transfer window.

It also shows the folly of not getting enough players in during the summer.  Hopefully we will have some stability by January, with a new owner and a permanent manager.

Other long term injuries we have at Newcastle are also Achilles injuries that Mark Viduka  and Alan Smith (remember him?), and have been out all season so far and are unlikely to return before the end of the year.

To say our squad is too small right now, with 3 long term injuries would be a massive under-statement.

The 26-year-old Uruguay international – signed on the last day of the transfer window, September 1st, from Valencia – has made just two Premier League appearances, the last one coming almost two months ago, in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham United in London.

The operation he has had means that Gonzalez’s loan spell at the club should really be called off, because it is probably March before he will be available to play again. We assume something was written in the agreement that would cover long term injuries like this – but we shouldn’t hold our breath.

It makes the task given to Joe Kinnear even more difficult, when three senior players have not been available to him, in his almost 7 weeks at the club.

Comments welcome.

looks like this lad wil go down i our larger hall of fame list then: the being the useless waste of space signings we’ve brought in overthe years.

we’ve certainly had more than our fair share. on last bbc’s top 10 i think we had 5?!

Far better to cut our losses ship out Xiaco straight away and get a few bob back than hang on for ages like Viana or Luque until everyone has seen he’s not much good. Spanish clubs will just assume it didn’t work out, didn’t settle etc.
If they can see we don’t rate him ata all, they’ll hang on until he’s a free gift.

Sav- That is a bit harsh on Xisco mate. Considering he has been playing in a side lacking confidence in a league that takes time adapting to. Many players have struggled during their first seasons only to blossom into exceptional players, so lets give the lad a chance eh?

The mess we currently find ouselves in is down to many player on both sides of the Ashley fence.

But this injury highlights the mess Wise made of our transfer budget.

Granted he wasnt to know about this injury, but what he did know was our squad was painfully thin with a fit Gonzalez, let alone what we would be like without him.

Xisco at the moment has been a waste of time, energy and money and i only hope this opinion changes and he doesnt turn out to be a Andersson, Tomasson or Guivarch. I wont unfortunately hold my breath!

Hats off to this other 3 purchases, but with an apparent 20 million to spend Wise has certainly played a big role in assisting our current predicament.

with his age, physique and nationality Xisco may be worth just a slight benefit of doubt. however this Nacho guy is definitely a waste of time and space. bet he’s never wanted to sign nor play for us. he was just shipped out by valencia and i doubt he’ll ever pull on the NUFC shirt again nor play for valencia in any competitive game. we’ll see him rot in some average clubs back in his continent in months time anyway.

KK couldn’t actually say anything about the situation as advised by his lawyers, same as the club can’t comment on the situation till it gets to court.

Personally I think we should forget about Keegan, it looks like he’s been shafted by Ashley and co but we’ll never know until it all comes out in court, who knows what Ashley offered him in thier one to one meeting/s

Ashley could have spent millions ala Sunderland, Spurs etc and still been in the same situation – it’s not about net spend as some have mentioned, Spurs received about 60 million from selling players (unlikely we’d get this for the whole squad!) and spent 60 million replacing them with Modric, Bentley, Pav etc.
Let’s face it we’d have been drooling over the th0ought of these players signing for toon but ultimately they’ve been a lot worse than the players they replaced

I have to say, way the go, Spyro. Spot On. KEEGAN IS A COWARD. He realize that NUFC is’nt going anywhere with the current squad. He wanted more players, and to be fair, he deserve a better squad. WE deserved a better squad. but for god sake, he should’nt quit the job. What he think he is? A SUPERHERO or something? that can simply come and go whenever he wants? get real Keegan. You WAS our hero. But no longer. Our Hero is not a quitter. our Hero is a FIGHTER. With brave spirit and enthusiasm. We don’t need a coward that loves to pretend just as if he’s a god. GET LOST KEEGAN AND PLEASE DON’T COME BACK TO HURT US!
If not because of him quitting the job, i reckoned we’re already in top 10 by now. We would’nt lost to fulham. Hull. Totthm(CUP). SUNDERLAND. It hurts. Please, stop continue hurting the land of Magpies. We have Heart. not stone.

Well said spyro and quemin. I said it would all end intears when Keegan came back and I was right. Happened even quicker that I expected though. Only problem is, the deluded masses made such a fuss that the one man who wanted to try and build a club on PROPER lines has now been hounded out. This will get worse mark my words. Does anyboy HONESTLY believe that the next owner is going to CARE about our club. An Arab or a Yank? Of course not! Ashley would have made something of this club given time but because of a serial quitter and a lot of deluded fans we’ll never see it. Remember – it’s going to get worse!!

    Spyro – spot on mate!

I stopped coming on here for ages due to the barrage of insults I got from ‘fans’ who said they’d never support Newcastle again “Because Keegan WAS Newcastle”

Ashley was naive at worst, but who is the real villain in all this?

    – A supposed ‘Cockney’ who doesn’t care about the club not allowing the manager to blow 50m in the summer transfer window and instead chose to bring in quality players who were young and ready to grow into their roles…

    – Or an ‘adopted Geordie’ who apparently would give anything for the club and it’s fans…but couldn’t stand to stay here when he didn’t get his own way…

I don’t think Keegan is necessarily a coward – But I do think he was selfish! Would any of you fans jack in the managers job (with it’s million pound wage packet) just because you didn’t get the players you wanted?

No! Because you love the club and you’d owe it to the supporters! AND if Keegan wanted to walk away on principals – don’t take the massive payoff – ’cause that’s the clubs money and it’s the fans that put the money into the club!
