As expected Michale Owen didn’t make the England squad to play germany in Berlin on Wednesday night, because he is still not fully fir for his club side Newcastle United.
Michael Owen – still not match fit
However, striker Darren Bent is included and will be handed the chance to stake a 2010 World Cup claim against Germany.
The England manager is impressed with Bent’s scorching goalscoring form during Tottenham’s revival under Harry Redknapp – and it appears certain that Darren will win his fourth cap in Berlin on Wednesday.
However, David Beckham is not included in the squad, with the MLS season coming to an end for his team LA Galaxy in the US.
Capello had initially indicated that the LA Galaxy star would win his 108th cap against the Germans, but changed his mind after The LA Galaxy failed to make the play-offs in America.
Capello said:
“If you play, you have a chance to be in – but David Beckham has not played for three weeks or so.”
Darren Bent was obviously delighted to be back in the squad and said last night:
“England have been doing fantastically well and I’m delighted to be included.”
Aston Villa’s center-back Curtis Davies and striker Gabriel Agbonlahor, who both had great games at Arsenal yesterday, when Villa won 2-0, are in the squad, along with Chelsea’s young up-and-coming center-back Michael Mancienne, who is now on loan at Wolves, who are top of the Championship.
Manchester United’s Geordie midfielder Michael Carrick gets another call-up and Manchester City defender Micah Richards is also back iun the fray, joined by Man City’s 20 year-old and very impressive goalkeeper, Joe Hart.

Comment #3Good news for us eh.
MO showed his class yesterday, he managed to aget himself in a great striking position 3 or 4 times in the space of 25 mins and scored one. If he was a bit sharper he would have put away AT LEAST another one. However, he has no loyalty to this club and is too one dimensional. We need to relace him in January.

Comment #4I agree its good news for us – if we can persuade Ashley puppet Kinnear to pick him, like!!
Don’t agree with releasing him tho Spyro…I’m sure any of the clubs we are competing with to stay up would break the bank to sign a striker of Owen’s proven class and ability.

Comment #5He can go in this window..one long pantomime is Mr Owen.
No top 4 side will pay his wages so he will go to
either man city or everton.
Get Ranger bedded in and get some championship players that are fit and crave prem football.

Comment #9Good! england have hardly missed him, not that i really care, and his only been in and out of the nufc squad recently so I’m not real sure what people were expecting to be honest?!
i doubt owen was thinking he was a shoe in for the squad, but i guess we must sell papers and fill blog pages with something huh?
