The Sunday Express is reporting today that Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear has been told he will not be given any transfer funds for the January transfer window.
Joe Kinnear – does he have transfer funds available?
The Express admits that Joe Kinnear has been saying that cash is available from Ashley, but they say today that they understand Mike Ashley doesn’t want to invest any more money in the club.
But the report in the Express says nothing about where they got that information from, only that they believe no transfer funds will be made available. Seems like they don’t believe what Joe says – strange indeed.
Joe seems to have indicated that if Newcastle can attract the right players – and that’s an “if” right now – that cash will be made available – so who are we to believe?
Mike Ashley could do himself some good by bringing in a few top players, if they are available, because that gets represented in the value of the club, so he will hardly be losing that money.
The club is also short on numbers, and we need to add to the squad in January, and that’s hard to do if you have to sell players before you can buy.
It’s true that Joe will be selling those players who he doesn’t believe are good enough to be at Newcastle, regardless of whether he gets additional transfer funds, and we think three of those are Geremi, Claudio Cacapa and Xisco. The first two of those were free transfers, so we’ll make a profit with any fee we get for them.
Selling Cacapa is just one reason we think Joe will be after another center-back in January.
A left back has to be the top priority at the club, which of course it was last summer too.
What do you think?
Comments very welcome.

Comment #2Why would we sell Geremi, he is a great squad player.
We shouldn’t sell Xisco either.
Smith, Cacapa, Edgar and Carroll can all go if we need funds.
Oh and ‘The Sunday Express’, pah.

Comment #9I agree that Cacapa,(finnished) Carroll and Edgar ( not good enough) can go, but who would pay for them ? Lets face it we are talking peanuts.
Bottom line is Ashley will need to cough it up.

Comment #11Why on earth would you want to keep Smith? He’s completely useless on 60k a week wages, injured and hasn’t scored a goal in the PL since nov 2005. If anyone would take him off our hands we should be grateful.
I do agree regarding Butt though, he’s terrible. The fact that he’s now our new designated set piece taker is shocking

Comment #15adam-warnock isnt a huge improvement on what we already have and i seriously doubt spurs would give us frasier campbell on loan when they also, only have him on loan!
I cant see Gallas leaving arsenal, or Agger liverpool, when both play regularly.
Selling Xisco would be ridiculous, he’s been here a matter of months and people are writing him off. Much like people saying we should ditch enrique after a year, its crazy. Both are under 21 internationals and are learning, to ship them off because they havent immediatly been brilliant is crazy!

Comment #17Xisco is the new zaki!
i still think Smith is the new Gary Speed!
Speed was (i dont like saying it) awful in his 1st season and was so close to getting sold and then he turns out to be one of our greatest ever!
if Smith doesn’t impress this season then he has to go, but he hasn’t really had a chance

JK will have no funds I am starting to think if we might get relegated this season…a few key injuries and we could be sucked down to fizzy pop world.

Comment #27Mike fat B*****d Ashley will not spend any money in January He is a tight B*****d and his company’s are all going down. If you think he will spend you are as thick as s***t. I still give 100% to Joe Kinnear but it is time you stupid B******’s started to get a life.

Comment #28Agreed with what has been said above. More paper bull with no substance to it whatsoever. They have just printed what some people on here and on other NUFC sites are speculating due to Ashleys lack of investment so far.
As for the ads, do yourself a favour and download firefox browser from http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
Once you’ve installed it, launch the browser and go back to that same web site and click on the add-ons button near the top of the screen.
In the search box type add blocker pro. Follow the instructions to download this add on.
Next search on the same page for no script. Download this add-on.
Now you won’t get any crappy ads or iffy scripts re-directing your browsing ever again.
I didn’t even know that ed was running adverts until someone else had the same problem in October.

Comment #32seb larsson would walk into our team no problem, hes as good in the centre as he is on the right, better then butt and guthrie, takes a tremendous free kick, scores his share of goals, which is unlike any of our current midfielders, and by the way you dont need to beat people down the wing as long as you can put the ball in the right place, a certain david beckham springs to mind when thinking of wingers who cant take people on, so yes seb larsson is what we need

Comment #33Cacapa can go, yes, but there’s not much point letting Geremi go as he’s good back-up and a good character to have around. Also, aren’t we supposed to be adding numbers?
And if we got offers for Xisco, or maybe Enrique (who I still think we should keep) then they probably won’t be as much as we paid.
I don’t know…I think we should let Harper go if we get 3M. And he’s miles better than the Spurs keeper so they should be interested. Harper and Amoebi to go if we got 2.5 mil or more for Amoebi. Then Smith for 3M. That’d give us 8M or so. Keep Xisco. Only let Harps, Amoebi, Cacapa and Smith leave IF we ‘re able to sell them.
That’s my own opinion but we might not be able to choose exactly who goes. We can have some control though but.
I see the results have gone well for us today!

Comment #34Just paper talk as usual, lets wait and see what happens in Jan.I hope JK gets some money has it will be intresting to see the type of player we bring in.As for players out,Smith if anyone is daft enough to buy him would be top of my wish list to go.

Comment #35ive sed it before but i think we really should keep smith. hes still got alot to give and i reckon, like barton, he may feel slightly indebted to the geordie faithful. lets see what joe can get out of him, if he doesnt live up offload him in the summer (injury-free) with more games under his belt for more money.
in the mean time, sell harper (hate to say it) carrol, cacapa, edgar, butt (if any1 takes him, even tho he wont be sold for shite) and geremi (dont care if hes a good squad player)
bring in, insua/riise/warnock/baines for lb, elano (amazing if we could pull it off) or ball, as city wil be clearing out in jan, and mcfadden or larsson from the brums.
