Joe Kinnear has talked today to the Sunday Sun about the transfer window, so let’s see what he says so we can better ascertain what our chances are of getting some good players into the club are by four weeks tomorrow, when the transfer window will close.
Xisco – to be sold in January – but he’s never had a chance?
It seems like one player Kinnear definitely wants to sell is 22 year-old Spanish Under-21 International Xisco, who we are told was brought to Newcastle against Keegan’s wishes, and was just one of the reasons for the volcano that erupted on the last day of the sumer transfer window.
When Xisco has appeared at Newcastle, he’s looked a decent player but hardly worth the £5.7M we are supposed to have paid Deportivo La Coruna for him. It appears that the sale of Xisco is the one that Kinnear hopes will bankroll his first signing with as Newcastle manager.
But whether we can find a buyer for Xisco, who is willing to pay anywhere near £5.7M, is a good question. Xisco has hardly covered himself in glory at St. James’ Park, since we’ve never played the boy, for one reason. Xisco now looks like on of our bad buys in the summer along with loan signing Ignacio Gonzalez, but only because the Uruguayan got injured.
Joe Kinnear told the Sunday Sun today:
“If we can get back somewhere near what we paid for the player we have in mind then I could go and get another player that I want for £5m,”
“One deal will automatically trigger the next one.?”
“So I’m banging on the door hoping that they (the buying club) will make a decision because the player that I want is wanted by other teams too.”
“The last thing I want is to let someone else get in there before we do.”
The Sunday Sun says that Kinnear is also eager to sell Enrique, after we signed the lad from Villarreal for £6.3m in the summer of 2007.
But we would question the validity of that, because Jose is again starting to play well at left-back and it seems he needs a good few games to get his form back, but he’s now playing quite solidly at left back. He’s good moving forward and has great left foot on him, and we like his attitude because he wants to stay and fight for his place at the club, and that can’t be too bad.
That doesn’t say we mustn’t get in another left-back during January, but he would then have to fight it out with Jose for the left back starting berth. Joe needs to fill out the squad which will add to the competition for places at Newcastle – and that’s what he’s trying to do, but with up front money not available, it will not be easy.
Kinnear continued:
“I just hope it never comes down to Mike suggesting to me that I sell Shay Given in order to free up funds,” “I’d tell Mike that Shay must stay.”
“Shay is an untouchable as far as I’m concerned. Shay and Michael are untouchable in January and there’s no chance I’d sell.”
Kinnear’s bid to keep Given will be sorely tested if we cannot unload the players we want to sell, like Xisco and Geremi. That’s especially true if Manchester City come in with a huge bid, and then Mike would be challenged with an important decision to make.
It certainly promises to be a very interesting transfer window for Newcastle – watch this space.

Comment #85AndyNUFC, agreed mate, Given IS the best keeper in the league, if Man City can pay £12m for Bridge Given is easy money at £18m.
How much did E.T (David James) go for?
I think Cyprus Toon (comment 20 made alot of sence).

When you consider some of the owners an managers we’ve had it’s a miracle we are still in the league.

All he was buying was just rags and old iron
For those big empty promises you used to make
For those memories of you that are no longer sweet

Exactly. Xisco has already shown enough to suggest he is far superior to Andy Carroll. What does Carroll offer exactly? He is supposed to be our tall, hold up striker, yet he wins absolutely nothing in the air.
Ummm, He won a penalty against Liverpool in the air.

You and i both know that was a ridiculous decision and the penalty was completely underserved.
Anyway, it was against Wigan.

Comment #92What I have seen of Xisco has been terrible, I think he looks toatl rubbish and wouldnt have got past a trial if he had had one. For his sake I hope he gets a move back to spain where he might do ok.

Comment #95Was it against Charlton (one of his last games I think) where he literally span on the ball like 2 or 3 times? I think that was the point where people’s frustration just kicked in and we started to see more cons to pros with Parker.
Sometimes you need more than a couple hard tackles a game, (unless your name is Cattermole).

Comment #96Lita isn’t the kind of forward we need. We’ve already got Oba and Owen who are relatively lightweight and don’t contribute greatly when we don’t have possession.
Why doesn’t Joe just shut his gob. There’s nothing so unsettling as the man at the top (kind of) spouting contradictory statements every few days. Small wonder Shay and Zog are unsettled. Like the fans, they’re probably wondering wtf is going on.
Weren’t we getting 12 million only a week or so ago? Its supposed to be Wise’s hands, but Joe knows what we’ve bid? 3 fringe players for 16 million? Joe said he has the final word on transfers, but clearly he has very little influence – he’s still ‘hoping FatAsh doesn’t suggest he sell Shay Given’. Obviously a suggestion from the fat man is a dictat in stone to JFK.
Mind, there’s some nutters on here as well.
Yes, Bassong was a bargain. But how many undiscovered gems have we discovered through years of trying to sort out our defence? Yet some here reckon we should just go out and buy a whole team full of 2 million players…I give up!
Some want to wait until after the transfer window to see if Ashley will finally deliver on promises. Your protests then will be too late. Kinnear has said we intend to raise 16 million through transfers out. That is rubbish. He has stated we are after Barry Ferguson. Not good enough. Better to protest like hell now. If we’re all wrong, we’ll say we’re very sorry and he’s a great guy, afterwards. But we’ll still be in the EPL.

Comment #98Mr Pound Land is a complete and utter wan*er!!!
I believe we should wait until Feb 2nd and when we have had no positive transfers into the club but some of our good players have left we should start the demo’s up again!
Ashley thinks he’s ridden the storm! We need to show him he hasn’t and we won’t stand for our club to treated like a toy that he has got fed up off!

Comment #99I’d definitely buy Lita, sort his attitude out and you got a player.
350k too.
We need a player with pace to stretch defenses, only Martins can do this.
Lita and Martins are not at all lightweight either.

Comment #108How long do you think it will be until Mike ‘Pound Land’ Ashley decides to sell Bassong?
He’s already our player of the season and our best defender.
I don’t think it’ll be long until someone comes sniffing round him.
He will probably start to think himself ‘do I really want to play at a basket case club when I could play for a team with ambition.
Our only has about as ambition the size of a midgets di*k!

Did the article state Kinnear was getting no money?
I accept that Ashely has asked certain players to be moved on, but nearly every other article on this site has up to 6 players leaving and 6 coming in !
