Newcastle United center-back Sebastien Bassong admits to being delighted at the pace of progress he has made in the Newcastle backline this season.
Sebastien Bassong – excellent progress made this season
The 22 year-old French defender has matured into a commanding young figure at the heart of the Newcastle defense this season, and has put in some solid performances for the team so far this season.
His pace, heading ability, strength and general good reading of the game stand him in good stead.
And Bassong has told nufcTV that he wants to keep improving through the end of the season:
“Yes, I feel I have improved as a player and I’m enjoying it very much,” “It has helped playing games in my favorite position of center-back.”
“I hope to continue in the side and continue with my development for the rest of the season.” “Maybe I have been lucky but we have kept clean sheets when I have played,”
“But that is down to the defense as a whole and we have to keep on working together to improve.”
Sebastien didn’t have one of his better games last Saturday, as he lost the ball to Scott Parker for the first goal, and should have had a penalty awarded against him when he brought down Craig Bellamy in the penalty box, early in the second half.
But he’s been the star man at the back this season for the Magpies, along with the more experienced Coloccini.
But Coloccini’s weaknesses – lack of pace and heading ability – are Seb’s strengths – so that’s one reason they make a good central pairing, since they tend to complement each other.
We also hope and expect Fabricio Coloccini to be a better player as he gets more used to the Premier League.
