Alan Shearer will not be able to see our Uruguayan midfielder Nacho Gonzalez in tonight’s FA Premier Reserve League fixture against Liverpool in Warrington (7.00 pm) – amazingly he is still injured.
Ignacio Gonzalez – still injured after 8 months
This player is approaching the injury record of the infamous Marcelino back in 1999, as he’s played just twice for Newcastle since he arrived on the last day of the transfer season last year, and has had an injured Achilles for over eight months.
With only 25 days of the season left, it now looks unlikely that Nacho will be able to help us out at all, even though our Uruguayan readers say he is a good player, but if he’s never fit what use is he?
Xisco will be involved tonight, and Academy Director and Reserve Team coach Richard Money is not surprised Shearer has taken such an active interest in the club’s Reserve side since his arrival as manager.
Good managers do that and Alan is no doubt interested to see just how good some of the youngsters are, since some of them may be coming through next season, and even more so if we do end up in the Championship.
Richard told the Evening Chronicle today:
“It is what good managers do.” “They have to take an active interest in what they have at the club, and Alan is going to do that in the short period which is left until the end of the season.”
“If you are a young player, and you are playing well, you would like to think you are going to have a chance.”
Richard Money will choose from the following squad for tonight’s game, which includes some of our best young up-and-coming talent in Fraser Forster, Ben Tozer, Brad Inman, Wesley NgoBaheng, Nile Ranger and Haris Vuckic.
Our youngsters have been a huge bright spot at the club this season, and maybe the only one.
Newcastle Reserves: Forster, Soderberg, Tavernier, Lough, Tozer, Grieve, Airey, Inman, Doninger, Godsmark, Donaldson, Baheng, Ranger, Danquah, Vuckic, Xisco.

Comment #1So I suppose the infamous terrace chant of “Who are ya” would be fitting wouldnt it.
To be honest – he was never gonna get to play with zero match time since god knows when.
You cant miss what you have never used?! Well except for what 38 mins.
I do hope our reserve boys have a good night tonight and come home with 3 points.

Comment #2i dont get it, when our first team is shite, why not use the reserves when they are on a winning mentality ? as in whats age got to do with this? so many teams have their kids play when they are 16,17 and 18. whats the use of protecting them and unleashing them in a lower league? beats me, imo ranger and couple of lads shld already be playing for us by now.

Comment #6toonoholic absolutely spot on. it’s the pathetic gutless and over paid sicknote has beens that have got us where we are now. for some reason we just don’t give the kids a go at sjp. how could they do any worse.

Comment #7hey Rodzilla, Hows it been mate? Where is NickoGF LOL. He better post something after i deafened and backed him up yesterday lol. Very sad about Nacho, but Valencia may be able to loan him to us again since he only played two games. We can use him next season, finally happy to hear Xisco is included in our scrap.

Comment #8the 2 Toons, another one to add to the list for me was sending out a creative midfielder/winger (Kazenga) on loan to Doncaster when it was an area SCREAMING out for attention.

Comment #10alreet AlexanderNUFC21, yeah, I’m sure it’ll not be long 😉
…his little Nacho radar ears will be twitching as we speak!
…yeah, I’d still like to see him play at some point, and personally would love to see Xisco get a start. I’d play him instead of Owen at Anfield, we’ve not exactly got much to lose with that one. You never know, he could just be the differernce between 6nil and 6-1 🙂

Comment #11I agree with letting our youngsters play, our first team isnt up for a fight (expect a hand full). What happen to Loven, Lualua, Ranger. We praise these kids for there skill but we dont use them. Put them out to play, when lualua came out in the MANU game he did very well. Ranger has a good vision, and determination.

LMFAO Yea I bet, aside from bashing of NicoGF. I would rather see Xisco play than Owen. I was watching some of his goals last years, far better than Owen. Im more worried of our defense. I think Colo can handle Torres. He has done in La Liga, Bassong can block shots, duff can be our headless chicken again, and Beye can use some of his tackle skills on a few players. Loven (if fit) should play he can tear up defense along with Jonas. Smith can hold the midfield down, maybe guthrie can give in some good pass. While Xisco can pass n go with Viduka, n provide some ammo for Martins

Comment #13I tell you what really irkes me. All the other teams saying glad to see us go down because where always banging on about how good we are and how we should be top of the table. Very few newcastle supporters i know are like that, Most like myself have said for a couple of years that a couple of boring mid-table finishes, no sackings no stupid transfer fees payed, then try to push on is what we want. We don’t have a divine right to be a top half team but when you look at our facilities, stadium, finance and players we are no disrespect a bigger team than fulham etc as are leeds in my book, but that DOESN’T make us a better team. We are were we are for a reason. I thougt seven points would do us before pompy and i dont think thats changed. We will beat boro and just to pick up another three somewhere else and hope our goal dfference doesn’t take a hammering at liverpool. I thought we where just missing a creative driving force in the middle on monday hopefully barton maybe evan nacho can change this. Keep the faith!

Comment #14Rorycn – I have NEVER spoke to any toon fan or heard anyone say we should be at the top of the table.
That rials me just like when I read or hear the words ‘Geordie Messiah’. How many times did that pillock on Sky say that when we played pompey – as for Setanta – someone either likes us or wants to see us fall!!

Comment #20jeez – here we go again
Loven aint a youngster, Lua Lua aint exactly pulling up trees at Donnie – the difference between putting a kid in when you’re in form and full of confidence and in extremely bad form and absolutely no confidence is huge and can destroy young talent – Carroll looked awful when he came on against portsmouth and showed just how good that old has been useless past it money grabbing Viduka actually is when 40% fit
We’ll def need the youngsters next year as all these past it and not so past it wasters will be off to new clubs hoping to get the chance to play for thier countries in the world cup (so thats Bassong, Beye, Collocini, Enrique, Guiterrez, Martins, Owen.
Viduka, Butt will probably retire so that leaves us with these current first teamers……
Edgar
Nolan
Guthrie
Smith (he’d like to move but noone will ave him)
Barton (possibly might move)
Ameobi
Duff
Lovenkrands (poss might move)
Carroll
Err so we’ll have to use youngsters as Ash wont splash much cash

Comment #30I agree Batty, … yes really i do!
I think ‘pool will beat us about 2-0, then we will beat Borough and draw with Fulham…
So we’ll be on 35 points with one game to go…
Borough will be out by then as will West Brom.
So it’ll all come down to the final game between us and Hull.

Comment #31im inclined to agree with jjj and batty as well… although im now slightly worried about west brom. Theyve been written off all season but they’re what, 2/3 points behind us? Aside from spurs and west ham, their games really are winnable- thats not writing off spurs or west ham either! Imagine if hull and borough both got no points but we were leapfrogged by the baggies who sent us down on goal diff on the last day of the season! The shame…

“worky that is an injury i suppose but i thought i would single it out as you dont often get injuries to managers”
Well there’s usually only one manager in a team Beye. In Newcastle on the other hand, we have a whole squad of managers, caretaker managers, ex caretaker managers, caretaker’s caretakers etc 🙂
