The worst possible thing happened today as Newcastle unbelievably went down to yet another home defeat against Fulham, this time by 1-0, and Hull City got a good 1-1 draw at Bolton.
This means that Newcastle are 3rd bottom again, with Hull one point clear, and now if Newcastle don’t get at least a point in their last game at Aston Villa a week tomorrow, we will be relegated. It also means that Monday’s performance against Middlesbrough was simply a flash in the pan.
Fulham are not a good away side, and would you believe this is only their 3rd away win of the season, their other wins being at Bolton and Manchester City.
This game also marks the 5th time in the 7 games Alan Shearer has been in charge of the team, that we’ve failed to score.
We’ve had only two away wins all season, the last one being eons ago, in fact 13 games ago to be exact. It was on February 7th, three months ago, when we beat WBA 3-2. But it looks like it’s only the sides beneath us that we are good enough to beat.
Our other away win was at Portsmouth so the chances of beating 5th placed Aston Villa next Sunday have to be slim indeed, although not impossible. And we’ll have to hope Hull City cannot beat the Red Devils, whose minds will be on the European Champions League Cup final. A Newcastle draw and a Hull defeat next Sunday would also save us – but if we get no points next Sunday we’re down – plain and simple.
In fact the chances of even getting a draw against Villa are not good, and a defeat at Villa Park next Sunday will see us definitely relegated. It’s hard to find excuses for a team that has amassed just 34 points in 37 games.
Hull’s last game is at home to Manchester United, but since the Red Devils won the title today, Alex Ferguson will field a weakened Manchester United side in the game, as they play the European Champions League Final against Barcelona the following Wednesday.
A win by Hull City next Sunday will doom Newcastle to the Championship next season.
And who has been our best player this season? Sebastien Bassong, right?
So would you believe he got himself sent off after 60 minutes and will now miss the last game of the season – talk about shooting yourself in the foot – this is more like shooting yourself in the head – just to be certain you’re dead.
Once again, rather than taking the advantage when we had it, we’ve thrown it all away again, and the truth is that if we do go down, we’ll surely deserve it, because we’ve had a multitude of chances to save ourselves this season, and we haven’t taken them. Now it’s out of our hands again.
It didn’t help today that Michael Owen cried off with a groin injury he picked up yesterday, and still hasn’t scored a goal for us since last January – so all that talk about how he would save us was just rubbish. And if we do get relegated Michael’s transfer to Newcastle will be the worst deal in Premier League history as every goal he has scored for us (only 30 over four seasons) has cost the club an amazing £1.3M.
Does any Newcastle fan out there think he’s been worth that money? If there is there’s a bridge in Brooklyn, NY we’d like to sell you.
When we talk about doom and gloom at the Toon, it cannot much worse than it is right now, unless of course we don’t catch Hull City in the last game of the season, a week tomorrow. If that happens the burial ceremony will need to take place.
Unfortunately, if we are to be real and down to earth, the likelihood is we will be relegated, so the club will have to move to Plan B – and whether that means Alan Shearer will stay at the club, we have no idea.
If we cannot win our games at home, we don’t deserve to stay up – that’s the simple – if brutal truth.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41OK, we lost today. But guys we need to keep faith till last day. I know its bit hard now but still our future is in our hands. We can beat Villa considering their form. Atleast our players should work their socks off like boro match and get a draw. But to me key will be who scores first. If we can get one goal in first half , I can see us getting draw. And that should save us unless Hull beat Man U which is unlikely. But guys keep yourself motivated and who are going to Villa, please do cheer team from first minute. Made the team your presence felt.
I am still finding hard to convince myself that we lost. How many times we failed to score today specially a martin chance was brilliant. I just hope one like that go in against VILLA.

Comment #46My gut feeeling is the same as it has been for ages Relegation.
The football has not been of a good standard for many seasons now and is like watching apint dry,the transfers have been shameful apart from Bassong, the owner is clueless and appointing a manager with no management experience to try and scrape something from 8 crucial matches is just laughable.
Mike Ashley well done…I hope you and Stardust have a good night at the casino.

Comment #51Where would the club be if Shephard, who lots of fans hated, stayed?
I think we would be challenging for Europe.
Mike Ashley is a fat c*nt, who has turned our beloved club into a weak football team. Okay the players were not always producing what they need, but can you blame them.
Every player needs to focus on his football, this season a lot has happenned and players started to struggle, lose confidence, … When January came everybody knew we had to strengthen our team. They got R. Taylor (garbage) and Nolan (struggling the whole season at Bolton).
Poor management has lead us into relegation, or will we be able to get out of it???

Comment #70Let’s stop crying… I hate these excuses.. let’s stop with the ‘blah blahblah’ thing and lets act. JUST FACTS, NO TALK…
I’m the only person who hasn’t been proven wrong on here.. all of you (yes all of you) have changed your mind many many times.. SAYING SHEARER WAS GREAT, then denying it.. saying Nolan, Butt, Viduka, Owen, Barton were the HEROS.. then changing your mind again..
But me.. from the very beginning, said Nacho was the savior. The only real HERO here.. Let’s play him in the last game.. and see if NicoGF was right or not. We have nothing to lose, but everything to win (any way.. with always the same players, we already know we’re shit.. so let’s give this guy a chance)
Or are you afraid of a FOREIGN HERO?
u want it to be a local?
Then this sin deserves relegation.

Comment #71Or are you afraid of a FOREIGN HERO?
What a stupid thing to say!
We have been unfortunate enough to have a rich owner who has gambled from the moment he bought this club and the only silver lining will be the fact he’ll lose £millions.
Little consolation for the Toon Army.
At least dropping a division may mean we score some goals and win some games!
If/when we go down, we all know the reasons and they’ve been mounting for years.

Comment #73Very very disappointed. However it is not over yet. I think we still got chance to stay because even a draw at villa park may be just enough.
We need to change the formation from 442 to 532. When you play 442, both wings must be good enough to create more problem to our opponent. Somehow i really don’t see any of our wing player can do that at the moment. I am so upset to see the way Gutierrez play for our last two games.

Comment #77I was sick to my stomach after that Fulham game. At the start of the day, I was thinking this is the day Mau Utd would win the title and at the same time Newcastle would beat relegation. 1 is true and another 1 is still up hanging in the air. Couldn’t blame the players, they gave their all. If there is anyone to blame, blame in on the referee for disallowing Dukes’ goal and Mark Scwarzher for pulling two fantastic saves from Oba and Butty.
The message is simple to us ‘Get something out of Villa game or we will be relegated’. And hoping that Hull would screw themselves against Man Utd. Sir Alex is a true football man and he would rather see Newcastle in EPL than Hull. If you were given choices to pick between Newcastle and Hull to lighten up EPL, without a doubt Newcastle is the obvious choice. Sir Alex knows that EPL is poorer in profile with Hull in it rather than us. I am hoping here that Man Utd would do the job for us but given the condition that we need to get something against Villa.
As much as Sir Alex would want to help but he is not stupid to field in a strong line up with one mind already in Rome. Don’t expect to see the likes Van Der Sar, Evra, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, Ronaldo, Ji Sung Park and Rooney. His line up would probably be:
————————-Forster————————–
Rafael———Vidic———-Evans——–Reserve?
Fletcher——-Scholes——–Reserve?——-Nani
———–Berbatov/Tevez——-Macheda———-
The rested big names above would probably play in the last stages of the game to gain match fitness. Strong looking line up enough to beat Hull I supposed.
As for our line up, I would like to see us going out with all guns blazing. Its now or never for us. The key is to get a goal ahead of Villa to settle the nerves and to send shockwaves to all parties connected to Hull and kill off their mental.
————————-Harper————————–
Beye———Collicini———-Taylor———-Duff
————Smith——–Butt——–Guthrie———-
–Owen—————————————-Martins–
————————Viduka—————————
I am hoping for:
Hull 1 – 2 Man Utd
Villa 1 – 1 Newcastle
Please ALL stand up for Newcastle United.

Comment #79I thought the team played with about half the energy of Monday night. We just lacked the pace, for some reason.
I started watching two minutes in, at a pub so there was no sound. I couldn’t figure out who was playing, and what position they were in, for the longest time. There seemed to be an incredible amount of overlapping, midfielders and even fullbacks running forward, and forwards or mids dropping back. Much more than I’m used to from our side, or so it looked to me. I’d guess that’s a change Shearer made, but it’ll take time for the lads to get used to it, and we’ll let in a few goals no doubt while they do.
And, yes, that was a goal — we were robbed again. http://www.rightresult.net has us 14th, although their methodology is questionable, it is telling that we’ve been robbed of five points.
