Newcastle will have trouble unloading a number of players this summer, but one of them shouldn’t be Oba Martins.
Oba Martins – £6M bid from Stoke City?
Oba cost £10M from Inter-Milan three years ago and Newcastle will be hoping to get a big chunk of that fee back in the summer. The latest club to show interest in Martins is Stoke City, but their offer of £6M seems low.
And we’re sure that Stoke would find it hard to match Oba’s wages at the Britannia Stadium, since he’s said to be on around £60K/week on Tyneside.
Of course that’s just one of the problems Newcastle have in the summer, since quite a few players will want to stay at Newcastle just to keep their high wages, but Newcastle cannot afford them.
Potters boss Tony Pulis is ready to break the club’s transfer record for the Nigerian striker, but whether Newcastle will accept £6M is a good question, with other clubs like Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham interested. Well there’s nothing like an auction to drive that price yup.
We’re not proud as the club needs to get a much as possible from their transfers to help fund new players arriving, but when that will be is another good question, with the sale of the club dragging on.
There seems to be no sign of anybody at all coming into the club, even as manager, but quite few are now leaving the mess, with fitness coaches Hulse and Elliott both departing yesterday for Liverpool, which is a club not in a mess.
Exactly who will help now with the coaching on Wednesday, when the players return from their summer break is an open question, and it looks like Mike Ashley is making yet another horrendous mess at the club before he finally leaves.
He’s already proved he can do this quite well, as we have witnessed over the last 12 months.
The sooner Mike leaves the quicker we can start a new era at the club, and hopefully become successful again.

Comment #5A test for Oba methinks. If he genuinely wants to stay with us then he can snub these clubs. The only options for Owen are clubs who will compete against relegation next season. But, not wishing to cast aspersions against other clubs, the likes of Hull, Stoke etc (even though they are Premier teams) cannot be seen alongside a regional club like us even with being in the fizzy league. We may be Ashley’s laughung stock but we are not part of his cheap shop stock! NUFC are an INSTITUTION on a far larger historical and potential scale than Stoke or Hull or Wigan can be even now.
