Martins Linked To Gunners . . . Again

It’s another day and another one of Newcastle’s players have been linked with a move away from St. James’ Park. Didn’t Ashley just release a statement clarifying that no player will be sold or bought until the club is in new hands?

Obafemi Martins-May leave, but not anytime soon

With Emmanuel Adebayor’s transfer to Manchester City happening just yesterday, it didn’t take long for the media to link Martins to Arsenal.

The logic is that Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of the pacy Nigerian, so now that there is money and room for another striker he must be able to get Martins for a cut rate price.

The latest news is that Arsenal are set to make a £7M bid for Oba. The problem with this rumor is that Ashley just put an embargo on all transfer activity at Newcastle until the club is sold. While Martins wages may be too high to stay at Newcastle, he still isn’t going anywhere until there is a new owner in place.

Other recent reports also throw some doubt on the Martins-Arsenal link. The News of the World today are linking Arsenal with a £10M for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh. Wenger also made a statement about Chamakh. He said,

“If we need to go for a striker he could be one of the possibilities,”

Before he spoke about Chamakh, he hinted that a replacement for Adebayor may already be at Arsenal.

“We have internal player lined up,

“If you look at the offensive players we have, we have Van Persie, we have Arshavin, Rosicky, Walcott, Bendtner and Eduardo. We lost a great player but we have players coming through that play in the same position. The message is to trust the players we have. ”

While Wenger is not one to blatantly disclose information about transfer targets (and Martins could still be an option when Newcastle is sold), everybody is going to have to wait until there is any transfer activity at Newcastle.

I like Oba, at least he looked like he gave a sh*t when he was on the park. Which is more than I can say for some of his team mates.. He would be nice to hang on to but I think his wages might be a stumbling block. As far as Arsenal being interested… Another rehashed story from the english press. I have to say that they really are bottom feeders… How long have they been pushing this story for?. From memory it has been banded around for 2 or 3 seasons now. If Arsenal were keen they would of made a move some time ago. What rehashed story will we be reading about tomorrow, as the english press struggle for new material?. What this space…

If I can select 1 player we can keep in his full wage . No doubt it will be our OBA ! He’s worth all of penny.

the sale of the club dragging on could be a blessing in disguise. hopefully we will keep players like oba, barton, enrique, colo, beye, nolan. these guys are better than anything that we can purchase at this stage. we are a ccc club now youknow. hopefully we will come straight back up and sell them then.

I would sooner keep Bassong, as much as i like Oba, i think we have good enough replacements in Ranger and Lua Lua.

Wonder what tripe we hear regarding the takeover today!

Once the embargo is lifted and the club is sold, he may well leave for Arsenal, hopefully this is the week.
Oba is a good player on his day but a luxury who is not fit enough or consistent enough.
A previous manager described him as a scorer of great goals and not a great goal scorer, about sums him up i would say.

What about Rooneys comments re EMO that any forward would struggle to score for Newcastle over the past two seasons?
Another attempt to placate their fans i think, Tevez and Ronaldo out and EMO in, i dont think their fans are daft enough to swallow that one.
The service to him wasnt outstanding but correct me if im wrong but he had a lot of chances in the six yard box which he fluffed but i suppose its an easy excuse for poor form to blame someone else.

Was walking on Northumberland Street yesterday and the number of people wearing toon shirts and/or polo shirts and t-shirts really stood out. Ive nver noticed it before – maybe it was always the case!!??!

Parked in SJP and walking past and looking at the mammoth stadium puts a lump in the throat.
