Martins Joins Wolfsburg

Obafemi Martins has sealed his move to Bundesliga Champions Wolfsburg according to the German club.

Obafemi Martins-Will join exciting German side

Martins was pulled out the Leeds game at the last minute amidst rumors of a possible deal to Wolfsburg. Today Wolfsburg have announced that Martins has signed a four year deal. He will join the Champions League newcomers in what has to be an exciting move for Oba.

We wish him luck as he was a popular and exciting player. His wages were just too high to maintain in the Championship and no one can fault him for joining a burgeoning side in Wolfsburg.

There is also news that Manchester City are in the race to sign Sebastien Bassong. While Bassong’s wages are not a problem, it seems he is determined to play in the Championship next season.

Since Seb is so young and promising maybe a loan deal could suit both club and player in hopes that Newcastle will be back up next season. This is highly unlikely since Ashley could easily net about £9M in a deal for Bassong after paying only £500K for him last year.

Good – 9m for someone who cant play a full season, and is so abysmal at shooting – will be a good player if he improves on this and becomes less injury prone. But atm, only his pace separates him from other average players.

Liked Oba and we’ll miss his pace, but I’m not devastated as it sounds like we got about £9 million, plus about £70K off the monthly wage bill, hopefully? Got to be a step towards financial stability?

i just looked on Martin’s wikipedia. Under the Wolfsburg section it says this.

On 29 July it was reported that Newcastle United had accepted a 10.5 million Euros bid from German champions VfL Wolfsburg. This however, has not been confirmed by Newcastle as of yet. On 31 July it was confirmed by his agent that Newcastle had accepted a €20 million bid from Liverpool. Martins is due for a medical on the 1st of August and is expected to sign a 5 year deal worth €120,000 a week.

thats £17m transfer to liverpool. tht wud be amazing if its true.

Probably approx 200k a month magpie, cant see him being on 15k a week – good business though, 9 million fee allegedly, and save about 2-2.4mil a year.

We all know oba can be a live wire at times but the last 2 seasons he went down hill imo so im happy for carrol are ranger to get the number 9 shirt. We just need smith etc of the books so we know they wont get a regular 1st team place ahead of the young strikers

So with this news confirmed, and also the news elsewhere that Forster has gone out on loan, we need to consider the very real possibility that there is some movement being made within the club.

That may not necessarily be a sale, it may be Ashley facing up to the financial implications of not getting shot of the high earners earlier. Alternately, the prospective new owners may have agreed to the sale of Martins, in which case they must be well down the road to agreeing the purchase.

More likely I think, is that Ashley is getting ready for another season at the helm, particularly taking into account the statement reported on Sky Sports News this afternoon in which he was reported as saying that Sir Bobby’s seats in the Directors Box would stay in possession of the Robson family for as long as he (Ashley) was in control of the club.

Also can anyone remember what game it was when we played a team in europe it could of been the intertoto cup and we beat the team 4~1 in the 1st leg then got hammerd at home, roader was manager and the football we played that night was like a game keegan would of been proud of. I just want 2 know because i was saying to my m8, but couldnt remember the game, that martins was on fire that night and i thought it was a sign of things to come.

Good luck for him, Oba ! We always love you .

The move of Oba show us something. Before that some quote said ” No players move in or out in the middle of take over negotiation ” Right? But Oba already moved so it mean

1.We can sold the club already and We will know who’s new owner recently or

2.Fuxxing Ashley cannot sell Newcastle to anyone. He want some money back to his bag and cut down the wage because he don’t want to pay. then more will go.

It can be the truth only 1 of this 2 choices.

Think there is only one man grabbing the headlines today oba & he did a lot more for this club than you. Dont get me wrong he seemed like he cared about the club but didn’t do it enough on the pitch for me, to get £9m when we paid £10m for him is good business. Just hope that it does mean there is some movement on the buyers front. It was great that shearer took time from being on holiday to call in to BBC & SSN to say his bit for Sir Bob, but surely that means that he aint going to be boss? unless it’s a last minute break before he starts the job again? Or is KK set for a return? Lets hope whatever happens the lads put it in & get us winning again. Do it for Sir Bob & his beloved Toon army! He will always be the best manager we’ve ever had for me.

Very exciting player, but inconsistency and lack of a ‘footballing brain’ let him down at times.

Could do well in a side doing well. But this is the championship and relegation means there’s no place for sentimentality. I just want an out and out goalscorer, an old fashioned type, like Ferdinand or Shearer.

yes excellent business now our top two goalscorers have gone but dont worry we have a little money knocked off the debt, but wait that is the owners debt, Superb.

Never heard so many plonkers in my life, everytime we sell anyone that is any good we have turned a corner and the finances are better.

Every player sale under Ashley so far has led to greater failure.

Tell me experts why selling this player will improve our squad??

Oh yes we have superstriker Carroll who was useless at Norwich and which league were they in??

It will improve our squad because if we even only have kids/reserves left then atleast we’ll have a squad, and not underperforming “stars” who were paid ridiculously unsustainable amounts.

If we keep all our players now, not only will we have an on the pitch crisis, we’ll have a bankrupcy one too.

Andy NUFC good shout on striker mate. I’d go for Kris boyd. His record is unreal & he’s still only 26. I think he would slot in to our team well. But as i’ve said before today is really about Sir Bobby. Give real radio it’s due on the legends phone in this lil Makem creep who goes by the name of Macca rang up & he said “Actually i’d like to speak to Micky about the Sunderland friendly vs celtic 2moro” He then started trying to talk about what the team would be & Horsewell said “Well Macca tonight is all about Sir Bob so we’ll leave it at that eh?” Total resepct from the legends for THE LEGEND. RIP Bobby.

Cobbler did you see Harper getting interviewed on SSN? He was holding back the tears & his voice broke & lip quivered a few times. Stephen Taylor also with tears in his eyes as he carried wreath out. Didn’t expect anything else from those two players. I bet shola was the same as they are only 3 left from Bobbys days.

Wigaz – Yeh i did cause they know what he means to this club and there’ll be no one else like him…this has now gotta be the WORST year in the history of this club! and to be honest im suprised bassong was there!….The sooner we get out Beye, Enrique, Collocini and Bassong the better, there all hagling for moves…regardless of there ability we dont need that at the moment and they need to realise there not getting paid the wages there on to run there mouths to media trying to spark a move away. Beye’s gone well down in my estimations!

Agreed there Cobbler mate. They should put their issues aside & honour a man who had more class in his pinky than they have in their entire bodys! I like taylor & Smiths attitudes thats the fight we need & that Bobby would be proud of. Smith looked very upset too as i’m sure he totally respects Bobby even though he didn’t play for him.

I never thought he was much cop anyway, yeah he did score the occaisional great goal but they were few and far between. Towards the end of last season he looked to me that he wanted to be anywhere but playing for us, a bit more effort from him and we would still be in the EPL. He is one NE resident who will not be missed by his absence.

I expect JJ & speed to come out and say something soon, JJ looked really upset in spurs game to. I know we have issues with him but he had a very close bond with Bobby.

    3. Hughton lied and players can go out and in he just wont buy anyone

    4. Ashley has realised that we’re half way through the transfer market and while theres no new owner, you have to sell players to buy them

    5. Does anyone remember the list Alan Shearer drew up of players he wants to unload (or so i think it’s Shearer)

    http://www.nufcblog.com/2009/06/11/nine-players-newcastle-want-to-unload-asap/

well notice Martins was 1 of them? this list may gradually get smaller and as of today theres only 8. Someone may be getting rid of these players which will no doubt lead to players being bought

P.S did anyone see the news about Habib Beye?

“Sky Sources: Habib Beye hands in written transfer request”
