Martins Joins Wolfsburg

Obafemi Martins has sealed his move to Bundesliga Champions Wolfsburg according to the German club.

Obafemi Martins-Will join exciting German side

Martins was pulled out the Leeds game at the last minute amidst rumors of a possible deal to Wolfsburg. Today Wolfsburg have announced that Martins has signed a four year deal. He will join the Champions League newcomers in what has to be an exciting move for Oba.

We wish him luck as he was a popular and exciting player. His wages were just too high to maintain in the Championship and no one can fault him for joining a burgeoning side in Wolfsburg.

There is also news that Manchester City are in the race to sign Sebastien Bassong. While Bassong’s wages are not a problem, it seems he is determined to play in the Championship next season.

Since Seb is so young and promising maybe a loan deal could suit both club and player in hopes that Newcastle will be back up next season. This is highly unlikely since Ashley could easily net about £9M in a deal for Bassong after paying only £500K for him last year.

Freddy Shepard was the man who brought us Alan Shearer and Bobby Robson, not to mention champions league football.

To be honest after Ashley etc id welcome him back with open arms.

Think time will tell…. With all this movement of players happening, and FFS saying what he has said etc, just makes me think that just maybe the nightmare is coming to an end…..

Feel bad talking about it with SBR passing away, but i feel like as a club we have come back together, some sort of unity, and i guess SBR would only want the best for the club….

What a dilemma even though its out of our hands, for those with rose tinted sentimental type specs on, FFS sanctioned the signings of Owen, Cacapa, Barton, Boumsong, Geremi, to name but a few of the rogues gallery.
Whilst he appears to project a good knowledge of running a football club, the evidence would suggest otherwise.
I feel another very bad head coming on.

    Toon Graeme..

I think he is… I think by Friday next week we will know more…

I guess with the SBR passing away, the club have got more time now to sort deals out etc, as fans thoughts are with SBR and his family…

If we show the same support and tributes to SBR to the team this season, we may just be ok.. I think for some of the players such as jonas and Xisco, they may just realize what this club is like and just how much it means to so many people….

Would it really be that bad if FFS came back?

This time it would be with him own cash (and Im guessing a consortium of some type) so I dont think he would be as wreckless money wise.

A debate if you would or could be ar$ed.

The prospect of FFS back at Newcastle in any kind of executive role horrifies me. As a figure head, being the public face of a (foreign) investment group might make me feel slightly more comfortable, but if he has any kind of authority at all we might as well give up now.

He’s already had one stab at the job and he didn’t cover himself with glory. What has he done since that can give anyone the impression that he would be any better the second time around.

It doesn’t matter who the owner is, as long as the club is run properly. If Ashley runs the club properly, until a better (more football savvy) owner is found, I wouldn’t be too concerned. However past history suggests this won’t happen either.

We need someone without prior connections to the club and the region to come in and appoint football people to football positions and business people to business positions. Not just give jobs to their mates or be guided by regional loyalty.

Halls ran the show when they wanted to even when Freddy was the chairman, Halls got rid of Robson, maybe it was Shepherds and Shearers fault about Owen, I do not know, but it is difficult to place blame on people when Freddy was the chairman but Hall pulled the strings.

Hall did a great job with KK but promised more if KK got us to the top of the premiership, because he didnt think he could do it he hadnt organised the finances just in case, so we couldnt stay at number one in the premiership mistake 1, then he forced robson out against Freddy’s judgement, mistake 2, then he sold to someone ‘who would be good for the club’ Ashley mistake 3.

Halls made a lot of money from Newcastle United, him getting out was about getting his money not about the club. His timing was perfect.

If Freddy gained a controlling share then this time any mistakes could be pinned on him, if not then it is the board and their vote not the chairman no matter who it is.

I think it will be more Ashley misery, Freddy Shepherd would be godsend for us even if he planned to stay in the championship.

If Sheppard has somehow got the funds together to buy us, there will be nothing we can do about him. He may follow exactly the same path as Ashley and the Halls before him.

As for all that went before, if he really felt so strongly about some of the decisions the Halls are supposed to have made, he could have resigned and made a public statement explaining his decisions. He didn’t. He was in it for the money and perhaps the glamour and recognition.

If he comes back now as our ‘saviour’, the his ego will go through the stratosphere.

This is the man that was allegedly so distraught at losing out on his beloved Newcastle while laid low through illness that as soon as he recovered his health he tried to buy Real Mallorca. Not get together a consortium to but back Newcastle.

Whatever we need to put this club back on the right track, he hasn’t got it. If all you want is Ashley out, he might be your man. But he won’t take us forward. He’s not the answer.

    To my mind, yep.

They never recovered in the eyes of the majority of the supporters. The way Sheppard and Douglas Hall were quietly let back into the fold was bad enough, but that was quickly followed with the Save Our Seats campaign and the fiasco surrounding the bonds that many had paid to reserve their seats for life.

Can someone tell me how those two episodes on their own show how FFS is qualified to run the club.

Nobody said they would be nice people!!

Money doesnt make you bright or a good person but nobody has demonstrated that better than Ashley.

If we got some Arabs they would probably get involved with a scandle around a load of blondes.

There is no guarantee that anyone will be good for us, we are unlikely to get a Man City type of set up, but how do you ever enjoy your club again after having owners like those if they leave?

Freddy will know what they did well and know what they did wrong, he is definately a Newcastle supporter of that there is no doubt, he has had time to think about what he would do if he was ever back at the club again and may have some good plans.

I am not bothered if someone takes over who is happy to stay in the championship even though I would rather we were in the premiership, all I want is someone to care and buy and sell players with the idea of improvements, mistakes everyone makes, but not this current mess it is awful.
