We were confident that Newcastle would be signing Marlon Harewood on loan and that was confirmed by his agent yesterday afternoon.

Marlon Harewood – coming to Newcastle later this week

Marlon’s agent, Phil Sproson, confirmed his client is getting close to a three-month loan move from Aston Villa:

“I believe we are close to agreeing everything and hopefully the move can be finalized later this week,”
“Talks are ongoing between both clubs and I think they are keen to get it resolved.”
“Marlon is back to fitness now and he is ready and raring to go.”
“He is very keen on going to Newcastle and playing regular first-team football again.”

And Steven Taylor has made it known, to anybody who will listen, that he doesn’t want to be rested for tonight’s Carling Cup tie at Peterborough, and wants to play as many games as he can this season.

Steven said:

“I won’t be asking for a rest, I want to carry on playing. I want to play in every single game because we have that winning mentality in the dressing room and nobody wants to miss out.
“The Carling Cup is not our main priority this season, that has to be promotion back to the Premier League.”
“But we have a group of lads who want to win every single game – and it doesn’t matter what competition it is.”

We expect Taylor or Coloccini to be rested tonight, to allow 19 year-old Tamas Kadar to start the game.

And then of course with Georgian center-back Zurab Khizanishvili fighting for a first team place, there will be increased competition for places for the Ipswich game on Saturday, and that can only be good for the team.

CH left that Man U kid and went for an experienced head with Zurab that is some Credit. You are all crying for Vaugh(everton) and Vokes but look at what he wants Experience in the league.

@will die etc. I would have loved us to sign Vaughn as I do rate him very highly, and for a young lad he has a fair amount of prem experience, but I think our priority needs to be a winger as most of the teams in this division seem to prefer the wide game.

Laryea Kingston of Hearts would be a good loan signing. He’s currently unhappy there and wants a move to England. Plays predominantly right wing or attacking midfielder.

@ will die for etc.. According to some bloke on talk sport this morning Lua-Lua is a done deal? Not seen anything official on any threads like so I think its a wild rumour. Not forgiven him for the pompey loan-goal either yet.

@Kevin Nichol – no criminal charges against Harewood? Well there should be for some of the worst misses I’ve seen during games. He makes Heskey look lethal in front of goal.
The reason CH wants Harewood is because he is a big fella which means CH can stick to his stupid 4-5-1 formation and have Harewood up front on his own. Rather than bring in a pacy young forward that can play in a 4-4-2 with Ranger.

G, he’s not bad, got a good shot on him, picks out a nice pass and has plenty strength. He is due to go to the African Cup of Nations with Ghana in January which is why he fell out with laszlo at Hearts, so a 3 month loan deal till then might be a good option.

Just a bit of speculating, always tryin to think of players we could attract on loans or free transfers that would improve the squad. It’s actually pretty difficult, but i reckon Hughton has done well so far with his signings.

I have to agree Shot Bru, he seems to be going for decent solid, if unspectacular signings. So far none of them could be classed as a failure. Lets hope it continues.

not sure about harewood, he’s defo not a prem player but could nick a few at championship level to help us, better to have him here than not given the depth of the squad. anyone now why we didnt sign james vaughan from everton?

@Swhitey. I personnaly do not rate Harewood either, however, his record at this level is ok with West Ham and Notts F, but I think he has lost his way in the last few years. Seems to spend too much time trying to line up his shots. I would love for him to make me eat my words if he comes, but I really can’t see it happening.

TBF to Harewood, i think he can be accused of tryin’ too hard when he’s come on for villa in the prem…But, let’s hope he can do a good job for us in the chump…As others have stated: we need a winger really, now!..Unless, of course, we’re gonna stat playin’ some of the reserve wingers!..
…& i agree that CH has recruited wisely with experience, we have kids of our own…Let’s hopw Simpson has an option to move permanently then!..

the only problem for me is that he will slow the progress of Ranger and Carroll if he plays ahead of them.

@stu. Workplace superscout software has that website flagged as a security risk. Andy Carroll is a big player now, but point taken. I don’t think Harewood would be a hinderence to thier progress, but I think we could be placing the lads in danger of burn-out if we play them too much.

I wouldn’t say we were nescessarilly slagging him off, I just don’t think he’s the answer. I have already stated that I hope he makes me eat my words. I will be very happy if he makes me eat a double serving of humble pie, I just don’t think he will.

Well it’s hard to give a positive report about someone when you don’t rate them. Plus being a Newcastle fan it’s in our blood to be skeptical.

Well the reason we are critical of potential signings is because we are often stuck with them long after the manager has been sacked. Yes its only a 3 month loan but i’m sure he’ll want a permanet deal.
And I still believe Hughton will be not be the Manager come January. He’d certainly not be in charge next August if we did get promoted, and Marlon (crap first touch) Harewood will still be on our books getting £40K a week as a fourth choice striker.

D. Simpson’s contract runs out at the end of the year? I’d love to get him here on a free. He is great going forward. If he has any sense and genuinity about him he’ll realise by now he probably will never break into Man U’s team for atleast a good few years, and a career on the bench is no career at all.

Speaking of first touchs, has anybody picked up on the fact Ranger NEVER heads the ball, he always controls it on his chest? I love it me, so he can trap it and lay it off to big Harewood to smash it in.

AndyNUFC – I agree, Ranger is a very clever striker. Always seems to make the right decision. Certainly our best striker at the club as far as I’m concerned. Once he gets some confidence and a couple of goals he is going to be some striker to be reckoned with.

I have an update on what's happening with my treatment for prostate cancer.

Last week, my oncologist called me late in the day and said he thought it was best to terminate my treatment with radium 223 dichloride because it was having such a negative effect on my health - specifically my digestive system.

I had completed 3 of the planned 6 infusions.

They had looked at the bone scans and three CAT scans I had early last week, and they showed no signs of the cancer spread being slowed or stopped: in fact, it was continuing to spread and my PSA account continued to rise.

The only treatment left now is to go back and have another bout of chemotherapy with docetaxel being the medication used.

I understand this will be a 7-month job with 10 sessions 3 weeks apart - almost double my first chemo treatment in Apil 2017, when I has 6 treatmnts.

The problem I have is that I'm in a very poor physical state right now, due to my digestive system being basically torn apart by the radium 223.

The radium 223 has leaked into my digestive system and caused me to have severe diarrhea, nausea, and heartburn, and it was (is) very serious.

They said it was too dangerous to proceed with the radium 223 treatment, with little benefit being shown.

I am also suffering from severe exhaustion, basically, because I have zero testosterone, and all the treatments I've had for the cancer, have further lessened the energy available to me.

It reminds me of the saying that if cancer doesn’t kill you - the treatment will (laugh).

It will probably take up to 8 weeks to get back to a physical state where I can start chemotherapy, and that's where I am now, but the cancer continues to spread in the bones.

I've also been put in touch with the dietitian from UNC Healthcare, who will help me get back my health - she is very helpful.

So that's where it stands it's been quite a journey over 12 years and I think I've had almost every treatment available.

It has really taken a toll on my body and on my energy, but that's where it stands and obviously, I'll do the best I can in the upcoming months with chemo and hope I can get through it.

It is as it is - and another challenge in life.
