Vuckic, Tavernier, Tozer and Donaldson All Get Debut Starts

peterborough nufc-crest

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton hands full debuts to no fewer than four Newcastle teenagers for tonight’s Carling Cup clash at London Road against Peterborough.
Very highly-rated Sloveninan midfielder Haris Vuckic, Bradford-born full-back James Tavernier, former Plymouth center-back Ben Tozer and Geordie midfielder Ryan Donaldson all start their first senior starts.

Vuckic is the youngest of the four having just turned 17 last month, while Tavernier is also still just 17.

And the Newcastle back four is made up of all the ‘T’s; Tavernier, Tozer, Taylor and Taylor.  Let’s hope they are also tough tonight.

Danish ace Peter Lovenkrands lines up on the right-hand side of midfield, with Danny Guthrie partnering Donaldson in the center of the park and Kazenga LuaLua on the left.

Vuckic will operate just off lone ranger Nile up front, and of course Haris can score goals.

We have to assume 19 year-old Tamas Kadar is injured as he’s not even on the bench.

This is a courageous selection by Newcastle manager Chris Hughton, to say the least, and we’ll get some ideaof  just how good these lads are.

If they can get the job done tonight, the club may have more in reserve in our first team squad than we first thought.

Certainly it’s a massive opportunity for all four teeenagers.

Steven Taylor captains the side for the first time in a competitive fixture, and the starting eleven includes 6 teenagers, as LuaLua and Nile Ranger also start.

Chris has experience on the bench in Kevin Nolan, Alan Smith and Geremi – but 19 year-old Ole Soderberg is reserve keeper for the first time to give Steve Harper a complete break tonight.

TEAMS

Peterborough: Joe Lewis, Russell Martin (c), Tom Williams, Craig Morgan, Gabriel Zakuani, Paul Coutts, Lee Frecklington, Aaron McLean, George Boyd, Craig Mackail-Smith, Toumani Diagouraga
Subs: Dean Keates, James McKeown, Tommy Rowe, Krystian Pearce, Jamie Day, Chris Whelpdale, Shaun Batt

Newcastle United: Tim Krul, James Tavernier, Ben Tozer, Steven Taylor (c), Ryan Taylor, Peter Lovenkrands, Danny Guthrie, Ryan Donaldson, Kazenga LuaLua, Haris Vuckic, Nile Ranger
Subs: Kevin Nolan, Alan Smith, Geremi, Wesley Ngo Baheng, Ole Soderberg, Brad Inman, Shane Ferguson

This should be interesting, I keep forgetting that Peterborough are a championship team as well, so it should be a very good test for us. I would be surprised if thay haven’t got their first team out. Any links for the game?

Really pleased with the 1st team.

Believe the young Yorkshire lad a right back has real potential, a good attacking RB.

Chuffed for Donaldson, Lua Lua, Vuckic and Tozer getting chances too.

Great oppurtunity for them lets hope they take it, Howay the bairns !

I would also imagine that if we are in a strong position that a few more will get a run, otherwise the older players will be coming on.

hehe, yeah i thought i had posted twice by mistake. I can see us winning this one as the young lads will be out to impress, because they all know that with hughton they can make the first team if they play by form not by reputation. This is the same way capello picks his teamsheet. In the past we have lost many young gems due to too many managers who would automatically put someone on the team sheet due to their name. good to see that is changing because as xisco said under kinear, he could train hard all week but he knew he wouldnt even make the bench! that destroys the squad…

Wish i went now, would love to see how the youngsters get on…especially Tavenier and Vuckic.

Tozer was very sketchy against Orient, but seeing as he played for Swindon a few times before we signed him he must have some potential.

Would be great if we won and give Hughton something to think about.

Peterborugh at full strength near enough, looks like they mean business! Hope it costs them and they lose some key players to injury.

Also, I see our game vs Ipswich this weekend has been moved to Sunday 1pm so BBC1 can have it. Just to let you know like.

Happy with that team, respect to Hughton.

Bring on Baheng for Ranger second half, Ferguson for Lover and Inman for Guthrie.

So it seems that Hughton is stick with his dull uninsoring 4-5-1 leaving Ranger to battle on his own and feed off scraps.

Really Happy with the team 🙂 Got old radio next tom on real radio for the game like. Happy Tozer is starting as maybe people wil STOP putting him in full back positions when he is a centre back only. Vuckic, I’m really looking forward to see or hear what he can do, Lualua has his chance tonight to try and cement a place in the team. Havent heard much of Tavenier, must be good if he’s getting a start. Anyone think Bob Moncur’s breathing down the mic is a pi$$ its all you can hear in the build up 🙂

Baheng hasn’t had much experience. Lovenkrands can always push up if needed and probably will. I can’t knock Hughton really.

Bairns under alot of pressure at the minute like, havent really heard anything of us apart from loven and lua lua both being caught offside. The overall result doesn’t bother me too much (providing we dont get hammered orient style), just want the younger lot to get a run out and hopefully a half decent performance from them as a team
