We were all waiting for the mask to come out when Jonas scored what looked to us at least, like a world class goal he scored yesterday, his very first for the Newcastle club.
Jonas Gutierrez – after scoring a goal
And after the game the Argentine International, who seems to be a key player for his national side, explained why it was missing yesterday, when only a couple of weeks ago he had said he had it on his person during the game – in case he scored.
This is what Gutierrez said to the thousands of disappointed Geordie fans:
“I left it in the changing room because I have read something in the newspapers that I didn’t like about me, that I want to leave Newcastle, so I didn’t want to celebrate because it’s not true.”
“I am happy at Newcastle and I want to be here next year. I want to be here next year in the Premier League and nothing else.”
“I have wanted to score since I came here, so I am very happy about that. It’s my first one and now I will try to score more in the rest of the season.”
Well we know for sure that Chris Hughton doesn’t want to lose him, and with his improved form of late, we don’t think too many Newcastle fans want him to leave either.
Now who else would be daft enough to let this player leave in January?
Oh yes, we almost forgot, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley. Mike’s views seem to be opposite to what Newcastle fans think – almost on everything, and that’s just one reason why he’s completely out of step at Newcastle.
Jonas can become a better player at Newcastle, as long as when he goes on those mazy runs of his, they end up with something – like a good cross, or a fantastic goal like he scored yesterday.
If he can do that, he will be a really excellent player for Newcastle United and will fulfill the promise he showed a year ago when he first arrived at the football fanatical City of Newcastle.
And since Chris and Jonas already know that is an area of his game he can improve on – with good coaching he will.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Team for Preston:
Harper

Guthrie Nolan Smith Jonas
Carroll Ranger
Subs: Krul, Kadar, Butt, Geremi, R.Taylor, Lovenkrands, Harewood.
I reckon Guthrie and Ranger deserve starts!

Comment #5maybe the reason he dont score is cos he`s jinxed by the mask!!
Excellent goal though, and a very much improved Harewood yesterday, if he plays like he did yesterday, he deserves to at least get on the pitch (30 mins or so),give Nile an hour, run the defences ragged, put on harewood to batter them later on in the game.
Is there any news on Jonas `s thigh?
My team would be ……….
Harps (outstanding again)
Simpson(good goal) Tayls and Colo ,Enrique
Guthrie(kazenga after an hour) Smith ,Nolan, Jonas (lovenkrantz after an hour)
Carol (great goal) and Nile (Harewood after an hour)
We need to go and play football ,attack, even away from home, 442 with recognised strikers rather than Carol and Nolan up frront.
Anyhoo, great result, good performance, looking forward to the Preston game with a hint of optimism (if Hughton has the nads to attack away from home)
HOWAY THE LADS !!!!!!

Comment #7I would play R Taylor ahead of Lua Lua, and probably ahead of Guthrie away from home.
I wouldn’t put all 3 subs on after an hour, gimps.

The starting eleven is spot on but I wouldn’t care in fact I don’t ever want to see Butt and Geremi in a Newcastle shirt again. Lovenkrands does nowt for me but to have played for his country so many times somebody must have seen something. He was crap at Rangers made a carreer out of a goal against celtic so my blue nosed mates tell me.
I agree players will be out the door in January as the FCB looks to make another transfer window profit. Carroll, Krul, Smith, Taylor, Jonas and Colo will all come under offer and the FCB will look to cash in as much as possible.
Butt and Geremi should be first out the door and with the exception of Zhurab and Harewood returning to their clubs no further outgoings. We don’t need harewwod once goalla ameobi returns

Comment #12Sorry to come back from earlier blog, been out all day. About Jonas being a brilliant, great, superb, fantastic, excellent, wonderfull player. will somebody tell me when he actually played ONE completely good game ( not five minutes a match ) Agreed he played well against Man Utd in his 1st game but what the F**k has he done since.

Comment #13Am i the only one who doesn’t really understand the explanation? lol
If people claim a player wants to leave a club, a complete lack of celebration surely doesnt the tabloids straight. If i was him, i’d have kept the mask with me and when i got my first goal, stuck it on and belted it down the touchline. Surely that is a far better way of saying
“thats for everyone who says im not enjoying it here/want to leave”
as opposed to playing down the celebrations….bit strange. Either way, a brilliant goal from him yesterday even if he hasnt been in top form within recent weeks. He still needs to work on his final delivery but that left flank is good for us. Jonas’ link up with Enrique is excellent and they are the two players we have that actually try to pick the ball up and run at the opposition.

Comment #14Why should either Argentino`s want to leave, they are getting probably three or four times the dosh they received in Spain.
Their place in the national side is a done deal barring injury and there`s every chance of promotion to the PL next season.
Basically a blip in a career, plus they will be subjected to a much more physical game in the fizzy, which will toughen them up for the PL league.

Comment #15Can someone here explain all the terminology you use for people?
The only one I ever figured out was KK for Keegan and BSA for Big Sam Allardyce.
All this “FCB” stuff is annoying.

Comment #19Well with everbody seemingly wanting to see the mask, perhaps Jonas wil have taken this on board and produce it next time he scores…… In another years time 😀
Personally, i couldn’t give a hoot if he puts it on. I’d happily settle for him getting say 5-6 more goals before the end of the season instead.

Although, and it frustrates me to say it, i dont think we are in such a position to take the piss about their football club right now.

Comment #36“The gap between sunderland and the barcodes is the biggest its ever been.”… Really?
Let me point you to the 2002 – 2003 season. Robson in charge, with the greatest ever English striker upfront, breaking the top 4 with a 3rd place finish – automatic Champions League qualification, and where were Sunderland? Well if my memory serves me right, in 2003 they finished with a then all time lowest points. The fact another team got lower than that doesn’t make it any less hilarious.
So, ever been? No my friend. Just in very, VERY recent times. In fact I think you should remember how long (or short) ago it was you were down a division.
