We had to wait 45 appearances before Jonas Gutierrez scored his first goal for Newcastle United yesterday, but it was just a tremendous solo effort from the impressive Argentine winger.
Jonas Gutierrez – world class goal – his first for Newcastle
And no doubt Diego Maradona will be delighted to see the video of that goal (it’s at the bottom Diego), which was world class play from the 26 year-old .
And since many clubs seem to be interested in Jonas, that goal will put his price up, but we don’t think Newcastle will be daft enough to sell him in January.
Jonas in this form is what we need if and when we get back in the Premier League, and the club needs to be thinking both long term and short term (promotion this season), when they bring players in during January, and not let some of our best leave.
But there’s no doubt, with 3 wins in a row, things are starting to look up again at the club, thanks in large part to the guts and desire our our players – we just love it.
And would you believe that Chris Hughton only yesterday, described both our Argentine players Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini as key players in Newcastle United’s all-out effort this season, to bring Premier League football back to St James’ Park.
This is what Hughton told the Evening Chronicle, and this was before the game yesterday:
“I think there will be a lot more to come from them both.” “What Jonas is, is a top-quality player.”
“I think with all players you have your highs and lows.” “And he has had the emotions of going away with Argentina.”
“He’s gone through feeling like he might not be going to the World Cup and then suddenly going.”
“There are lots of highs and lows there and there have been three international breaks.”
Jonas has been linked with a January move to Roma, but Hughton wants to keep everybody he has at the club – although he may allow Harewood to return to Aston Villa after his loan spell is complete – and that should include the popular Gutierrez, who the Newcastle fans are quickly starting to love again.
Chris added this about Jonas:
“He’s a player that is delighted to be here.”
“He wants to fight for the cause and wants to get us back in the Premier League.”
And talking on Coloccini’s return to the team after four weeks out with groin problems – and we certainly missed the big experienced Argentine defender during that time – Hughton paid tribute to both Argentine players and said:
“They’ve just got on with their jobs.” “Every day they go out and train with smiles on their faces.”
“They do the extra work they need to do. Both have been very good team players this season.”
“They’re a big part of us trying to get promotion this season.”
Although anything over £6M may be tempting to Newcastle, we want to see Jonas stay on Tyneside, and because of Newcastle’s high profile he should have absolutely no worries at all, about making the Argentine squad netx summer.
And if Newcastle get promoted that simple (that’s the wrong word – it’s not simple to Newcastle fans) fact will probably get Coloccini into the squad too.
Fabricio has played very well this season for the club, and when he’s been out, he’s been a big miss.
And finally here’s the video of Jonas’ great goal yesterday – just in case you haven’t seen it yet – we can almost guarantee it will make you feel better this Sunday. 😀
Comments welcome.

Comment #4Ashley is probably convinced we are a cert for promotion, in which case he
need not strengthen the side other than get a coupla loaners in.
From Hughtons interview does`nt appear likely he is going to spend.
Another gamble that could turn brown.

what second rate players do you see running half the length of the pitch past players and scoring and having already been guaranteed a place in Argentina’s World Cup squad at South Africa?
Even in the Premier League he was running past and beating players for fun and winning man of the match performances.
Tell me what second rate player wins Man of the Match against Man Utd?
What 2nd rate player scores against 2006 World Cup Finalists France for Argentina?
The two of you are negative and don’t know how good a player he really is, and great he can be if he works hard at adding goals to his game as well as improving his crosses in the air.
He needs to improve on his goalscoring and crossing, but is that any reason to get rid of a player that can beat players with the ball at his feet and score a goal like he did last night?
BTW anyone notice that he was playing quite centrally and having a really good game albeit for 20 mins before injury forced him off?
What 2nd rate players have you seen in the Championship and Premier League run from half way with the ball, beating players and scoring?
Ronaldo, Henry are the only to I can think of.
Watch the below video, example after example after example Jonas running past players with the ball in the Premier League. He is NO 2nd rate player! Now that he has got his first goal, hopefully his confidence is boosted and more goals will follow.

Comment #15jonas18 – well said! some people must always slate flare players and especially love to dismiss all foreign players as lazy mercenary hippies who just think about their hair lol. Jonas and colo have been given a place in the argentine squad but will be at the top this season so as to make the starting eleven. Gutierrez has his place pretty well secured in the starting 11 but he has alot of players on is back so games like this will be closely followed by argentina and maradona

Comment #16Jonas is a cracking player and will only get better with a good manager. I can remember 18. Months ago the same tripe been said about another winger we had, he went to a better club and is developing into a good England international. Imagine if we’d be in the prem with these two wingers causing trouble to nearly every team.
Nice to see we are never happy till we condemn a player and they leave and do well else where.

Comment #17errrrr, he’s played one good game in 45 – that in no way makes him anything more than ordinary. He usually runs round like a headless chicken, is unable to cross a ball and invariably gives it to the oposition!!
Yes, it was a well taken goal against a crap team. When he does it regularly, against committed oposition, THEN you can call him something better than average. Jury is still out and will be for a while yet.

Comment #18He has potential and ability to be first-class winger but he still cannot show it all his best yet. I pretty sure he’ll be better and better from now on.
