Boyd To Choose Birmingham – Newcastle Give Up On Beckford

Kris Boyd is mulling his future over at Glasgow Rangers.

Kris Boyd – 128 goals in 193 appearances for Rangers

The striker, who has scored 128 goals in 193 appearances for the Scottish Champions, may decide to move on when his current contract with Rangers expires on June 30th, when he will become a free agent.

But there was news over the weekend that Kris would want to move to Birmingham, where the manager is the Scot Alex McLeish, who has just completed an excellent season back in the Premiership at the Birmingham club.

McLeish was the Scotland manager when Kris played for his country, and he knows the manager, and friends are saying that if he indeed decides to leave Rangers he would choose to join up with McLeish at Birmingham.

Of course we have no idea if Kris is really a target of Newcastle boss Chris Hughton,  who has said he wants a proven Premiership striker this summer, and certainly Boyd is not that.

Jermaine Beckford – 85 goals in 149 appearances for Leeds United

From news this morning it also appears that Hughton is no longer interested in Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford, who announced over the weekend he is not staying at Leeds United. Newcastle bid £1.8M for the striker in January but Leeds turned the bid down, although Jermaine was willing to move to Tyneside.

And as one of the local Newcastle fan web-sites are saying today – he’s blown his Toon chance!  – we love it. 😀

Everton and Aston Villa are said to be interested in the 26 year-old London-born striker, who scored an amazing 85 goals in 149 appearances at Leeds United.

Leeds of course are now in the Championship next season – and probably on their way back to the Premiership – we hope so anyway.

Comments welcome.

I think he would have been a decent addition in January and alright on a free.
Not bothered if he comes or not (Beckford) but he has to be better than the 2 donkeys Shola and Best any day of the week.

We should go and sign Roberto Soldado from Getafe, proven goal scorer, Spanish International, and wouldnt be that expensive either.

The funny thing is he really isn’t better than Ameobi. Maybe better than Beckford

Wouldn’t lose any sleep over either tbh.
Just think we should keep Ranger and send Best on loan, if we can’t get rid of him permanently.

How old is Soldado ? Seems the rumours of ALBIN were just that – rumours. VELA would be a great shout, just show him the film Goal !

    http://www.madeinlens.com/index.php/component/content/article/3-transferts/4070-newcastle-en-discussion-avec-lens-pour-maoulida.html?

Got this from a Lens fan website. Translated it too:

Newcastle under discussion with Lens for Maoulida
According to the Voice of the Sports, Newcastle would be currently under discussion with Lens about Toifilou Maoulida. The English club seems to want to recruit the best striker lensois. In addition, Maoulida would have been proposed with the Greek club of Panionios, but the wages of the attacker are well too high.

    Hes 31 though, bit old…

Well if the rumours about Moyes being interested in Beckford are true he can’t be a bad player or is moyes now a bad judge of player? Boyd is a big lump & would bring nothing that we don’t have already, just look at who he has scored most of his goals against.

What can’t Moyes make one mistake on a player? Of course he can

Boyd – fair enough. Becks – no thanks. Moyes – good manager but no one is 100% all the time.

Beckford might be a better choice then Best and Shola but he seems to have a bad attitude and that doesnt fit in in our team. Everton or Villa can have him, I dont mind..

Do not need either. Beckford has attitude and would be a prima donna type. Boyd apparently is a poacher and contributes not much elese on the pitch. Birmingham seems a good choice – will be below us come next season!

Proven Premiership strikers costs money. They cost a lot of money and that is something we cannot afford at the moment.

I have browsed the topscorer lists of all the different european league’s and there is not a single name that meets our criteria which are:

    Young + Cheap + Proven Premier League…..

These 3 criteria simply just does not exists.

As for Boyd then I do not see him as a proven prem striker. He scored 23 goals this season in the SPL, but Kenny Miller got 18! Kenny Miller could not hit a barn door in the EPL. I am sure Ameobi would be top scorer in the SPL…
