Steven Taylor – Don’t Believe Everything You’ve Read

One of the things that Chris Hughton was able to do last March was to quickly get over an altercation between Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor, and two days later had the lads win 1-0 in that vital game at Doncaster Rovers, and yes – Carroll scored a great winner after 59 minutes.

Steven Taylor– don’t believe everything you read

Such was the spirit in the side last season, and the ability of manager Chris Hughton to handle a crisis at the Newcastle club.

All kinds of rumors circulated about the altercation – and it wasn’t much really – just that Steven ended up with a broken jaw and Andy had both his hands bandaged – oh my goodness!

Steven talked about some of those rumors today:

“What I can say about it is ‘Don’t believe everything you’ve read and heard’,”“We have a fantastic team bond and everyone is happy. I’ve not got a problem with anyone at the football club.”

“People reading all of that stuff about me and Andy were probably amazed to see us standing together on the podium at the end of the season, but we’ve got a great understanding.”

“There’s a fantastic team spirit at Newcastle United and no one wants to put that under threat.”

That understanding is obviously when Andy throws the right hook, Steven ducks – something he obviously failed to do last March – hence the new understanding. 😀

Taylor came in for some criticism after that event, which was a bit of a surprise, and he did not address the rumours at the time, and of course says how easily Newcastle gained promotion after the late March incident.

Steven continued:

“There’s always rumours knocking about with this football club. I remember when I was younger it was Ronaldo and Rivaldo signing for Newcastle United,”

“The best thing is not to react to it and to just stick together. As a club we have been criticised in the past but as a football club now our attitude is to just keep quiet about it, let people write what they want to write and we’ll just get on with it.”

“It’s a successful strategy, as far as I’m concerned. Look where that got us last season.”

Taylor has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, as sports journalists made up their minds that one of the two local lads had to leave the club – but of course they will turn out to be incorrect on that score.

As we reported earlier this morning Taylor’s new contract is being negotiated on his behalf by his agent and he doesn’t seem too concerned about it, as he continued:

“There’s always things going on around contract negotiations. It’s all paper talk and you need to let things happen,”

“My agent Paul Stretford is taking care of things and my main focus is playing football for Newcastle United. That hasn’t changed.”

“I’m happy at Newcastle United – I’ve got another year left here and I just want to get back playing again.”

Steven is certainly looking forward to the new season, and after being out for 7 months with his knee injury he will look forward to a great upcoming season, which will certainly help the Newcastle side.

Steven continued:

“This is a new era for Newcastle United and I’m really, really looking forward to.” “I think we bounced back very well. We had a great season last year – unbeaten at home and made St James’ Park a fortress.”

“As players we’ve grown in confidence and I think we’ve learned from our mistakes during that season in the Championship.”

Steven’s right and all we have to do next season is show that same “never say die” spirit and we should do OK – in fact there’s a chance – a slight chance – that we’ll even do well – wouldn’t that be something!

Comments welcome.

Any freebie will interest Hughton as Ashley has pockets as deep as the sea. S.Campbell is way to old and we are well off for CB. We need an LB desperately as we only have Enrique. Cmon Hughton bite the bullet and get young Aanholt in, he is wasted in Chelsea reserves. We are looking at youngsters so he would be an awesome signing. It would add to the abundance of young talent we already have. Gosling and Aanholt would be a huge stride in the right direction.

Ya I just saw the goals on skysports. Got to say goals were awesome. My favorite was Nile Ranger goal. Wayne Routledge beautiful set up. Best faked the goalkeeper. And Haris Vuckic had a nice goal. Turned around from the right hand side and just kicked it to the bottom left. Also those jerseys looked brilliant. They look awesome. 🙂

Totally agree Campbell is way past his best nd I can’t see Ashley agreeing to sign a 35 yr old. Van Aanholt would be a great signing pure class the games he played whilst being on loan were brilliant hope Gosling signs 2 future England player.

baro- yes that is the story

Campbell would be a good player to have in and around the squad tbh. We only have 2 center backs with proper Premier League experience as it is and I think he could help the likes of Kadar and Williamson in that league.

Not sure how happy I would be if he was playing week in week out but I think it is a bit premature to criticise Hughton for being interested in him when he could potentially be good for the club, behind-the-scenes.

I’ve already blogged about the Taylor comments – it sounds like he might be sticking around, although you never know. If we do sell Taylor then I’d say Campbell would be an excellent signing, so I hope neither rumour is true!!

P.S. Xisco didn’t play due to a “minor injury” – sound familiar?

Just saw the goals, Routledge is looking sharp already!

Interesting that SSN reported Taylor’s injury as a shoulder injury – didn’t he have a niggling shoulder injury a while back? Hopefully it’s nothing serious (then again, a more serious injury might prevent him being sold!)

This lad will be in the same class as people like lampard. He is unbelievable, now mike, offer him a 5 year contact

I’m slightly concerned that Ferguson looks about 12 despite turning 19 the other day.

On the other hand Vuckic looks ready to play now because he is so strong physically and Hughton must not be afraid to give him the games – not for experience but because he may geniunely be a matchwinner already.

How was Inman? With his goals record last year from centre midfield he could make it surely.

Ferguson, Inman, Donaldson etc should be on loan this season I reckon. Vuckic is realistically the only one who can make a first team breakthrough, but there is a lot of potential in that crop of youngsters and they need football.

LuaLua will probably go out on loan again but I don’t think he’ll ever cut it at the top level.

Vuckic has it all & only 18, one little problem though his natural postion is attacking midfielder, how doe’s he get the football he needs against quality players over Nolan & Barton……

ive never seen him play but if vuckic is as good as people seem to think he is then getting in our team shouldnt be a problem , remember when we signed jenas , he was only 18 but within 6 months he was regular starter and we had a much better team then than we have now , so i would expect him to get in our team over the next 12 months if he is as good as people say

i have a fear Harris vuckic will burst on the premier sean this season and we get a daft offer for him say 10 million and ashley takes the money, because in 4 to 5 years a world record fee will be paid for him, and i bet its not to us. someone will get what ashley wanted for the club 100 mil+
he’s a once in a becade find. he could be the greates player to play in black & white.

Looks like Sol Campbell is ours in a couple of days. Right now he is having a wedding. But, when he comes back he will be offered a Newcastle United contract. The only reason I want him is to teach youngsters. Tamas Kadar specifically and others. He is a veteran.
