Mahamadou Diarra Move To Newcastle Hard To Beleive

Surprising news this morning that Newcastle are being being linked with a move for Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra.

Mahamadou Diarra – are Newcastle really interested

But right up front we think this is a little hard to believe, with the player already being 29 years old – and add to that it’s a Sunday – and you would expect some stories on Newcastle being linked with somebody.

The report arises from rumors in Spain.

Real Madrid new manager manager Jose Mourinho will have already decided those players at the famous club who he doesn’t want,  and perhaps the 57 times capped Mali player is one of those – that could certainly be true.

Reports suggest the former Chelsea boss is keen to let the Mali-born player leave – he’s been at Madrid since 2006 and has played 113 times with 3 goals for the Madrid powerhouse.

Diarra was signed from Lyon for £20M four years ago, and the midfielder is a good defensive midfielder with lots of experience, but he goes against the trend of Chris Hughton in the transfer market, who wants to bring in younger players.

The other thing that seems problematic with this story is Diarra’s wages, and they could be too high for the Magpies, who will no longer pay ridiculous wages to older players.

We have a hard job believing this story has much truth in it.

Why is it so hard to believe Ed, I’ve also read that we’ve beaten Celtic to signing 35 year old Sol Campbell this morning so why wouldn’t we sign a 29 year old from Real Madrid????

If the rumour about Sol Campbell are true, I’ll be very disappointed in CH & Ashley, as I didn’t think we were after anyone over 26 these days & Campbell is way way way past his best & not worth the trouble!!!

Suppose it will depend if there was a fee involved & how keen madrid are to get rid. Not sure about the campbell story, played well for arsenal last season & would certainly help our defence.

if nwe got rid of alan smith, surely that would afford his wages although i am not sure what that would do for our team spirit

If the wages where right get him, he is a great player and is certainly miles ahead of our midfielders. However that is a dream we won’t get him.

http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle-utd/2010/07/18/newcastle-united-turn-down-diarra-79310-26875485/, i know its the Sunday Sun so its bulls**t but here it claims were after a few other players….Mate Bilic, Yohan Benalouane and Taye Taiwo. The only one i know is Taiwo, he was the guy who absoloutly blasted free kicks and long range shots for Nigeria quite highly rated.

His wage demands are way too much. But he is terrific defensive midfielder.
