It’s hard to judge a pre-season just by the results, but it’s still nice to get off to a 3-0 winning start, as the lads did yesterday at Carlisle United.
Leon Best scored – good for him
The goals came from Leon Best, Haris Vuckic and Nile Ranger and it’s really good those three scored.
Leon because it’s his first goal for the club, even though it’s a friendly, and it helps to get that monkey off his back, and good for our two young players 17 year-old Haris Vuckic and 19 year old Nile Ranger.
And of course it was the first time Newcastle wore their new Puma strips, the white strips being just a little like Real Madrid.
While the jerseys from Puma are plain,  the three of them look good, and better than that yellow strip of last season. 😀
But the bad news is that a fit-again Steven Taylor, who was a second-half substitute, suffered a shoulder injury, on his first game back after his knee injury. Let’s hope it’s not too bad.
After a goalless first half, where Peter Lovenkrands almost scored, and goalkeeper Steve Harper had the woodwork to thank to deny Ian Harte,
Hughton made th full 11 changes for the second half.
Debutant new signing James perch from Nottingham Forest, Â was alongside Steven Taylor on his comeback from injury, in central defense, and the game went into real action in the second 45 minutes when all 3 goals were scored.
So it’s a good result for the club, and Chris will have been pleased with getting so many players a game – but we have to hope Steven’s injury is not serious.

Comment #2I’d love to see the goals. It sounds the first half performance is another reason why Smith and Nolan should not play together. Thankgod we dont have to worry about Butt getting a run out anymore

Anyone know if Xisco got a game yesterday? would like to finally see what the lads made of. you’d like to think he might take a leaf out of Enrique’s book and dig in for the lads
Alinufc completely agree with you, we should get plenty of goals from the wing next season and maybe if jonas and routledge play that well it might take the pressure off gettting a creative CM?

Comment #7I love the goals in this game. I see the attacks are well organized and again I see that Routledge may be what we have been looking for the last 10 years. Awesome !! 😀 Also good that Vukic gets a goal.
