Late breaking news that Newcastle United have rejected a loan bid from Glasgow Celtic for their 24 year-old defender Steven Taylor.
Steven Taylor – not going out on loan – good
The 24-year-old is currently on the transfer list at St. James’ Park, but STV Sport is reporting the Tyneside club have turned down the chance to send the player out on a temporary loan.
Taylor has made 174 appearances for Newcastle, but has been tied up with his agent Paul Stretford in negotiations on a new contract, which has still not been signed.
A shoulder injury is currently keeping the player on the sidelines, but it is hoped he will be fit again in about a month, and the local lad has been one of the best players to ever come through the Newcastle Youth system, and captained the England U21 side.
Steven was a ball-boy at Newcastle when Kevin Keegan was the manager, and we are hoping the refusal of Newcastle to send the lad out on loan means they are hoping they can reach agreement on a new contract – soon.
Taylor’s current contract runs out next summer.
Comments welcome.

Comment #9If Steven Taylor does love the club and wants to say – why does he not come out and say something rather than hide behind his agent – remember we have been here before when his father was hos agent. I am indifferent to him going / staying but he is no different to anyone else that pulls on the black and white shirt – we only want players at the club who want to be here and play for us – we have got rid of some / most of the parasites – If it is true and he has been offered 40K he should snap the clubs hands off as I can’t see anyone else paying him that. If he won’t sign a new contract – don’t loan him out – let him train with the kids and play for the reserves

Comment #11just imagine what it would be like to play football as a job for your hometown club and to get £40,000 a week to do it.
look at mido he accepted £1000 a week to play at west ham and thats not even close to his hometown club.

Comment #12Taylor is nothing but greedy.
The trouble is, HE must think that he is better than he is.
He must be asking for parity with the likes of Smith, Nolan etc – players who’ve been at other Prem clubs who were prepared to pay them big wages initially.
If he went to say, West Ham or Wigan or something, I’m sure they would pay him bigger wages.
If he doesnt want to leave, he should just take what he’s offered and get on with playing for the club he apparently loves.

Comment #13No point loaning him out coz he’s free agent nxt summer if he can’t agree a new deal i’d rather get some cash for him. The scum hve signed Asmoah Gyan for £12

Comment #14I suspect Saylor would be appreciated far more by his detractors on this board if he was playing for someone else.

Comment #15There is clearly no truth in this whatsoever.
Also, what is with this bad-mouthing of Taylor?
He has been loyal to us! He stayed when we were relegated yet is treated worse than Given, Bassong et al.
The papers print lies! Sometimes you have to think, are the papers telling the truth? Does he actually want £60k a week or is it bull?

Comment #16Not a bad front two they have now, Asamoah is VERY quick and Bent’s a decent finisher.
Willo and Colo will sort them out though and HBA and Carroll will score at least one each against them.

Comment #18Well it looks like another cheap transfer window for Ashley although we have brought in some very good players. Was hoping for a surprise from the club but to no avail lol. Gyan officially went to Sunderland for 13 million quid. Certainly does look like our big spending days are over especially when our beloved neighbours out spend us by a huge amount. Don’t get me wrong i am happy with this window but like i said was hoping for a surprise lol.

Comment #25I would say it was a fantastic window. Everyone on here would have liked to sign someone else today, probably just for something to talk about, but on the whole we did very good business this window.

Comment #27Where’s the benefit in loaning him to the dis-ney league? It’s not like it will improve his game, better to keep him & see isf we can get him to sign or at least put him in the shop window for a jan move.

Comment #33I think we’ve done well in this window.
We have a decent squad and finally, we have creativity in the team with HBA.
If he stays fit and adapts well, we really could be flying.

Comment #38Looks like Sunderland are victims of post world cup price inflation with this Gyan deal. Can’t belive they have paid £12m, theres no wo way he’s worth that. Don’t get me wrong he’s a decent player and he did have a good world cup, but as someone who follows Serie A and Ligue 1, i think he was promising when he was younger for Udinese but since he moved to Rennes he hasn’t really developed in my opinion. He is still young enough to improve though but i just think £12m is a bit over the top for him.
