Transfer Window Closes – Nobody Else Through The Door

The 2010 summer transfer window closed about 20 minutes ago and it doesn’t seem like Newcastle got anybody else through the door.

Mike Ashley – strengthened the squad again this transfer window – good

We would have expected something to be posted on the Newcastle web-site if we had been successful in bringing someone else  in, but nothing,  so we have to assume the five players brought in so far are all that we are getting this summer.

But with the acquisition of James Perch ( £1.5M), Dan Gosling (free), Sol Campbell (free), Cheick Tiote (£3.5M) and Hatem Ben Arfa (season long loan with chance of £5.5M transfer next summer),  we are more than satisifed with the transfer work the Newcastle club have been able to achieve this summer.  It’s the second transfer window in a row where the club have strengthened the squad.

The Tyneside club spent just £5M in the summer transfer market, but we still managed to get 5 good players in, and as Chris Hughton has said, the squad is now what we have until January, when the window opens again for a month.

By then we have to hope that Newcastle are somewhere safely in the middle of the Premier League table, and certainly if the first three games of the season are anything to go by, that’s where we could well be when 2011 rolls around – and that would be great!

Kazenga LuaLua got his move on loan to Brighton through the end of the year, but nothing at all on the possible Robbie Keane, Greg Cunningham or Ricky van Wolfswinkel deals.

Maybe these will be targets come January – who knows?

Comments very welcome.

Clerc and Assulin would be fantastic signings, we’d be mad not to consider a move for them

Xisco had a great under 21 record as good as if not better than Torres. Spains under 21 squad actually mean something rather than some countries

Can’t believe some of you pricks are having a go at Shearer cos of his attitude to Barton getting kicked all over the place at Wolves and being totally professional!

That used to happen to Al every time he played! Dont talk about his ego please! He’s a true legend; and much as I admired Barton’s performance at Wolves, you can’t really mention him in the same Breath as Shearer!

    C’mon stop the bullshit!!

moonraker, yes, he’s a legend, but that doesn’t mean he can’t come up for scrutiny!

He laughed at the potential season-threatening tackles on one of his team’s players, showing no neutrality whatsoeve, yet calls us ‘they’.

He’s starting to become a BBC, cockney-loving fool.

The quicker he gets of that sofa, the better, in my opinion. He’s the same lad, but he’s being changed…

HTL he laughed cos basically they were tough but not particularly career threatening, although dirty tackles.

Barton did great but still got booked in the end.

I’ve forgiven him for that needless tackle at Liverpool when he got sent off, which may have cost us our PL status, but I doubt Shearer has and for me AS can do no wrong anyway.

He and KK are the only two who can do no wrong in my eyes and we will be talking about them long after JB is gone and forgotten!!

Yeah I agree with HTL, Shearer is an absolute legend and my alltime favorite player, doen’t mean he’s imune from critisism though.

And Barton may not be a patch on Shearer, but he’s the one currently fighting for the club.

Shearer laughing was bang out of order. I thought he was man enough not to join in with those two other morons.

Remember your roots big Al and the black and white shirt. Do not refer to us as ‘they’ either, it should be ‘we’.

Nobodies picking sides over this! It’s just I thought Shearer would support the club, no matter what.

If he can’t put behind acts from years ago, how will he ever be able to manage a club?

Criticsm is ok but slagging off someone who gave up the chance of countless honours to play for his beloved club, is a disgrace.

Make no mistake though; Barton is fighting for HIS career as he knows he’s in the last chance saloon, but good luck to him and I’m sure he aint worried about Shearer’s comments either!!

    @74, 100% right my friend!

Though re the Shearer situation, in my opinion he should not have laughed, and needs to get over the Barton situation. But I don’t think he should refer to us as ‘we’ on MOTD. This is because as a football pundit you need to appear to be completely impartial to maintain legitimacy to the viewers, also why does he need to re-iterate his support for the club when his years of loyalty are obvious for anyone who follows the game?

Just my view, of course others aren’t wrong though :)!
