Cheick Tiote Gets Squad Number 24 At Newcastle

Newcastle United new boy Cheick Tiote, who is now on Tyneside, will wear squad number 24 this season.

Cheick Tiote – will wear number 24 shirt

The Ivory Coast international trained with his team-mates for the first time on Thursday, since returning International duty for the Ivory Coast.  He is expected to be in the squad for the game against Blackpool on Saturday, but whether he makes an appearance is still not known at this point.

Cheick Tiote signed last month for around £3.5M from Dutch side FC Twente, although Newcastle do not reveal the transfer amounts they pay, since they are privately owned and don’t have to.

We would expect that Chris Hughton will play the same side for the 4th time in a row in the Premier League, with three new boys Sol Campbell, Cheick Tiote and Ben Arfa all on the bench – and yet to make their Newcastle debuts.

Cheick’s number was available because last season it was Andy Carroll’s number, but Andy now wears the famous number 9 shirt on Tyneside.

Comments welcome.

‘We would expect that Chris Hughton will play the DAME side for the 4th time in a row…’

Another classic typo, Ed, readers can draw their own conclusions.

Assuming the new boys are all on the bench, it’ll be interesting to see who they come on for. The obvious thing would be Sol for Williamson, Tiote for Smith and Ben Arfa for Routledge. It could be problematic, though: if we’re winning and have played good football, the ones who come off might feel hard done by.

I wondered why he’s barely be featured after Ben Arfa and Sol have basically written a whole newspaper in quotations between them

Anyone know how he go on in the International game, was he playing or a bench warmer??

I think all 3 subs should be brought on at the hour mark, give them a little run around, as we’ll be 3-0 up by then… really looking forward to this match 🙂
