As expected Chris Hughton has fielded an unchanged side from the side that picked up a decent point at Wolves two weeks ago.
And our three new players Ben Arfa, Sol Campbell and Cheick Tiote are all on the subs bench, and we would expect at least Ben Arfa to make his debut this afternoon.
Newcastle will again play in a 4-5-1 formation with captain Kevin Nolan pushing forward as a second striker to support Andy Carroll, who is now fully recovered from his ankle injury.
The subs bench of Krul, Campbell, R Taylor, Ben Arfa, Tiote, Ameobi and Lovenkrands has to be one of the strongest Newcastle have had for quite a while.
Former Newcastle striker Marlon Harewood is on the bench for the Tangerines.
Three points today will see Newcastle climb the Premier League table from the 8th position they hold after the first 3 games.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #123According to Tiote’s (Dutch) wikipedia article, he cost 7 million euros. Is that right? It’s a lot of money for a DM.

Comment #126@MonsterMagnet (123): Highly doubt it. If we’re going to spend £7m on anybody, why not HBA rather than pissing around with this loan lark?
Colo missed again.

Mick Lowes: “I’ll tell you something, he IS bright enough – that’s a lovely shade of tangerine!”

Comment #135@Thump I think HBA on loan is a good piece of business. By all accounts there is a fixed future fee, so we can sign him if he plays well. Given his attitude at OM, his career over here could be a similar trainwreck. The Chron had the headline ‘Ben Arfa can be the new Robert’ when he signed. That’s a fair assessment imo – he has the potential to be a successful but difficult player. Glad we’ve got him on loan initially.

Comment #138@MonsterMagnet: I agree entirely, but I’m sure all of us would love him at the club long term rather than this 25 game lark. £7m could also get us a good, speedy striker which is exactly what we need.

Comment #144Arfa will come on for the last 20 minutes.
Stupid by CH, he should have been on a lot sooner…
Yet again, I repeat, this game shows CH to be tactically suspect at times…
I still back him and I wont start saying crap about him but we really, really should be doing better against teams like Blackpool.
If you let a team like Blackpool take points from you at your own ground, that’s where the relegation battle begins.

Comment #151Thump – you dont think thats a fair comment?
Are you serious?
If our lot cannot take 3 points of teams like Blackpool AT HOME – come the end of the season, it is games like this that cost you…
Can you not remember 2 seasons ago ???
Hull at home for example??
Perhaps you should ‘do one’

@Edd Case (150): And it’s games like Villa that give us a life line. It’s too early to even consider relegation ffs. What do you do when you stumble? Catch your next step or fall flat on your face and stay there for 20 odd minutes?

Comment #157I havent said we will be relegated Thump but the point is, you simply have to take points off teams like Blackpool especially at home because there are even tougher games ahead.
Trouble with Nolan, Smith, Routledge, Jonas and Smith is that they all seem to have off days too often.
Not enough consistency.
But when they play well, we will win, just hope that’s enough.
I imagine that HBA and Tiote are both far more consistant.

Comment #159Scoring goals is going to be a massive problem for us this season. I’ve said it since day one and I think we dropped a massive clanger not bringing someone in during the window.
Aye its early in the season, but these kind of games at home are MUST WIN.
