Newcastle Unchanged Against Blackpool

As expected Chris Hughton has fielded an unchanged side from the side that picked up a decent point at Wolves two weeks ago.

And our three new players Ben Arfa, Sol Campbell and Cheick Tiote are all on the subs bench, and we would expect at least Ben Arfa to make his debut this afternoon.

Newcastle will again play in a 4-5-1 formation with captain Kevin Nolan pushing forward as a second striker to support Andy Carroll, who is now fully recovered from his ankle injury.

The subs bench of    Krul, Campbell, R Taylor, Ben Arfa, Tiote, Ameobi  and Lovenkrands has to be one of the strongest Newcastle have had for quite a while.

Former Newcastle striker Marlon Harewood is on the bench for the Tangerines.

Three points today will see Newcastle climb the Premier League table from the 8th position they hold after the first 3 games.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United: Harper; Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique; Routledge, Smith, Barton, Gutierrez; Nolan, Carroll.
Subs: Krul, Campbell, R Taylor, Ben Arfa, Tiote, Ameobi, Lovenkrands.

Blackpool: Gilks, Eardley, Evatt, Keinan, Crainey, Vaughan, Adam, Grandin, Varney, Ormerod, Campbell
Subs: Halstead, Edwards, Southern, Phillips, Carney, Euell, Harewood,

Eh, HBA isn’t exactly consistent. Games can drift by him easily enough if he isn’t on his game. I don’t doubt that Hoots can get the best out of him, but it’ll take some time.

I agree completely with your point about what we have, though. There is a lot of inconsistent players (I’m not even sure that Nolan has got out of the door yet, he’s been too slow from what I’ve seen so far this season). Smudge (as far as I’m concerned) shouldn’t have even started.

lol @ Ando losing his temper.

No, I think we will be ok as long as we stop relying on AC so much.

HBA will help with goals but I would love to see a 442 with Tiote and Barton in the middle, Routledge/Jonas and HBA on wings and AC and Ranger up top.

AC and Ranger would play with no fear and cause so many problems, they’re both huge lads and Ranger is quick too.

With HBA’s trickerym, skill and delivery, we sould surely score goals and be a potent threat – that is also not so predictable.

10 shots on target to ‘Pools 3. 2 shots off target to ‘Pools 3.

Surely we could have put 3 of our shots in.

To put an even more brutal but true point on matters…

    We lack any real class.

Hopefully, this is where Tiote and HBA come in.
    Consistancy and class.

We can only dream on that formation.
CH has been too rigid with his selection of players.

    Carroll shot saved.

I’d love to see Ranger get a start (or even an appearance) but I don’t think Hoots has the confidence in the lad, despite his hold up play and awareness probably some of the best we have.

Personally I don’t rate Ranger at all. Aye his a big lump with a bit of pace, but has the touch of an Elephant with cement shoes. Can you ever see him ever scoring 10 pl goals in a season? No Chance.

In all honesty, I think Colo shouldn’t start against Everton. Really hasn’t impressed me too much today, give Campbell a start imo.

    4 minutes added time.

YES, we should be beating blackpool at home, but footballs a funny old game as they say! Positive way of looking at it is most people expected us to get beat off villa and beat blackpool….if that had happened we’d be in exactly the same position…anyone else share this view???

Edd, my point is next time we get a comfortable win there’ll be talks of a European place for next season.

Is it nice to lose? No. Should we have won this? Probably, a point at the least – but the fact is we are very, very far from relegation right now.

I think it was Beefy who said it yesterday – there is no easy games in the EPL. Yes you can have targets, but you can’t guarantee those points (see: Sc*nthorpe last season).

1-1 in the Scum game. Howay Wigan 😉

    I have to ask though;

How the fu@k do a team as average as Blackpool come to SJP where they were beaten 4-1 only months ago and win 0-2…?

CH has to take responsibility for this.

You CANNOT play the same team like this, week in, week out when they players you have are not that great.

We are too predictable with that line up – 4411 – humm, let me guess, hoof it up top to Carroll, hope Nolan (with no pace) gets the knock down…? Crap.

    442 please, AC and Ranger.

    My next team would be;

    Harps
    Raylor – Willo – Colo – Bull
    HBA – Tiote – Barton – Jonas
    Ranger – AC

5 Live reporting our match as a big result, a shock. Not sure about that – we weren’t expected to lose, but did lose at Blackpool last season. It is disappointing but not a disaster. BBC treat us like a big club when we lose and a small club when we win. Very tiresome.

Reminds me of two seasons ago when putting the ball in the net was an absolute struggle. Losing at home is one thing. Losing 0-2 to Blackpool at home is quite another. CH better make drastic changes to his squad come next week or we will be in bottom three before we know it. What an unbelievably frustrating day.

We had alot of chances… Mark Gilks made a host of saves.

Our passing needs brushing up. We need to be more clinical. We had 13 shots on target!
