As expected Chris Hughton has fielded an unchanged side from the side that picked up a decent point at Wolves two weeks ago.
And our three new players Ben Arfa, Sol Campbell and Cheick Tiote are all on the subs bench, and we would expect at least Ben Arfa to make his debut this afternoon.
Newcastle will again play in a 4-5-1 formation with captain Kevin Nolan pushing forward as a second striker to support Andy Carroll, who is now fully recovered from his ankle injury.
The subs bench of Krul, Campbell, R Taylor, Ben Arfa, Tiote, Ameobi and Lovenkrands has to be one of the strongest Newcastle have had for quite a while.
Former Newcastle striker Marlon Harewood is on the bench for the Tangerines.
Three points today will see Newcastle climb the Premier League table from the 8th position they hold after the first 3 games.
Howay The Lads!!
Teams:
Newcastle United: Harper; Perch, Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique; Routledge, Smith, Barton, Gutierrez; Nolan, Carroll.

Blackpool: Gilks, Eardley, Evatt, Keinan, Crainey, Vaughan, Adam, Grandin, Varney, Ormerod, Campbell

Comment #201@balubas1 (193): Smudge gave a penalty away in the 45th minute.
What did you lads think of Harps performance? He’s seemed very, very nervy in the last few games when he’s been called on. Wonder if it’s time to give Krul a 45 minute run out?

Comment #202Lovenkrands and Ameobi have always been pure shit! Ranger is a star in the making why not play him? He will become a star one day i promise unless he doesn’t get playing time.

Comment #204YES, we should be beating blackpool at home, but footballs a funny old game as they say! Positive way of looking at it is most people expected us to get beat off villa and beat blackpool….if that had happened we’d be in exactly the same position…anyone else share this view???

Comment #208I dont think we have to worry about Smith, CH simply HAS to drop him now.
Tiote for Smith for sure.
I heard nothing about Jonas or Routledge, to be honest, I’d leave either out and pop HBA in.
Our defence didn’t seem to do too bad today?
Once again though, it’s our midfield.
Nolan obviously starts as he’s captain but I wish he wasn’t, Tiote and Barton for me, AC and Ranger (or even Xsico/Loven)

Comment #209lol Baro you’re having a laugh aren’t you? Was Loven shit when he put 16 balls in the back of the net last season?
I won’t make excuses for Shola, but he’s a confidence player. Take a look at his performances under SBR (and parts of what we see now) compared to his performances under Souness, Roeder etc. Right now I don’t think he has the confidence, is slowing down and found his level in the CCC. Send him out on loan, give him some playing time with the likes of Leeds or something and see what he does when he comes back.

Comment #210We need to get behind the lads, I trust hughtons judgement, its only one result after all, we will be fine, im confident of that, we will improve alot when ben arfa, tiote, guthrie etc come into the side, and i think taylor should start at right back instead of perch, as he is very handy for set pieces.

Comment #212You lose 2 0 at home to Blackpool and you have to conclude that we will struggle this season. We may not be relegated but the difference between 3rd bottom and sixth bottom is not a lot. A few injuries or a run of bad luck. It is not the dawn of a new era but a team making up the numbers in the Prem and hoping to avoid relegation as its ambition. Some “big”club that is.

Comment #214Harper Nolan Smith are just old men. They suck. NOlan gets fifty chances a game. If one shot on target on Harper than its a automatic goalAlways. Smith can’t run, can’t defend. Useless shit.

Comment #217@jimiley (209): Of course we’re going to struggle – we’re playing with a team that got us relegated (and ultimately promoted). This season is all about staying up, consolidating and ultimately preparing for the future – something which is desperately needed and is happening quite nicely. As for staying up as an ambition? God no, but for this season it’s a necessity.

Comment #227thump we would get totally dominated in central midfield with that side, especially against everton, with cahill, arteta, fell…..(big hair) we need to play 4-5-1 against them to have any chance, or dare i say 3-5-2, with wing backs, as most of evertons chances come from set pieces and wide areas

Comment #229baro.. “Nolan suck”.. he does not man… what the hell?
We just need to get smith out and Tiote in. Thats a huge improvement to start with.
And also get Ben Arfa in the mix by rotating some up front. He could replace all midfielders’s positions.
(I’m speaking of watching earlier games as I did not the the blckpool game)
How was the off-the ball runs in this game? Who got involved in attack? thats how u score u know:P

Comment #233At the end of the day, we had a poor first half but if we hadn’t given away that penalty it would have been different. We still managed 13 shots on target, everyone is overreacting massively.
People are starting to get on players and hoots’ back already!
Firstly, Nolan is the sole reason we were promoted, without his goals at the start of last year we would have become the car crash people predicted, Carroll and Lovenkrands only hit form after xmas.
And people having ago at Chris for his tactics?! Every single person that posted their team before the game posted the same formation that we played.
Only changes i would make at this moment is Tiote for Smith, and potentially Krul for Harper, and R Taylor for Perch.
Dropping Routledge or Jonas would be disgraceful, both have played a massive part in our two good results so far and it does nothing for morale dropping players at a whim.

Comment #2351st thing…try tiote instead of smith…that tackle is totally unnecessary n it cause a lose indeed…2 cb behind n wt he needs to do n defend goal is juz keep blocking…but he did a tackle
Also, i would rank routledge than jonas this game, at least he knows when should offload the ball n wt time he should use his speed n skills…
btw Colo n the defense isnt too bad this game i personally think, but should use sol against everton cos we need to hve a careful defensive line-up
next line-up
Harper
Perch Sol Will Enrique
Routledge Tiote Barton Ben Arfa
Nolan
Carroll

Comment #237Ryan Taylor (premierleague experience) over Perch
Tiote over Smith (hard for manager to drop smith, and its even harder to know the reason WHY)
Ben Arfa over routledge or jonas, if one of the winger didnt perform then change.
Campbell of Williamson, this is the best time to bring Campbell in
