With the terrific display yesterday at Goodison Park, Newcastle’s summer signings are now looking better than ever.
Chris Hughton – made good start this season
James Perch has so far played in every game at right back, but with his 5th yellow card in his first ever five Premier League games (has to be some kind of record), he will be given a one game suspension.
We saw the full debuts of two more of the five new players yesterday, and both Cheick Tiote and Ben Arfa were absolutely outstanding.
We still haven’t seen Sol Campbell or Dan Gosling in the first team, but Sol will almost certainly get his first start at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, to show what he can do.
But again it will not be easy for Sol to get a first team starting position right now, with Williamson and Coloccini again outstanding for Newcastle in central defense.
Dan Gosling will not be fit until early January but he too could be a tremendous signing – for nothing from Everton, and he must have enjoyed the victory yesterday against his old club, when Newcastle looked a good and solid side.
So for around £5M in transfer outlays, Newcastle seem to have acquired five good players, and certainly it has significantly strengthened the squad.
Two or three new players in January will be a good way to keep constantly improving the squad, as Newcastle push to get back to being one of the top clubs in the land.
Yesterday’s performance showed they are definitely on the right track, and Chris Hughton is starting to look like a very savvy Newcastle manager.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41whats up lads, sorry ive been m.i.a. the last week but
after the blackpool game i suspended myself from all
things nufc because the loss was too tough to take.
however, after yesterdays gritty and gutty performance
from our toon soldiers i have reinstated myself back
online. dont mistake me not showing up for a week as me
losing faith in our club, i just take loses so bad i
cant bring myself to talk about it.
on to the match, i thought tim krul came on and just
played very well. he took charge of his back line and
played like he was a prem league vet and not a keeper
who was getting his first taste of the best league in
the world. onto the back line, another great performance
from our back line. i thought enrique was just pure class
as usual. he has developed into a topnotch fullback. on the side
perch picked up a silly card but did well holding down
the other flank. he is nothing but consistent though,
5 games 5 cards. lol….williamson had a bit of a rough
game is some aspects but he was dealing with alot. he came
close to giving up a penalty but he new what he could
get away with and used that to his advantage.and colo
was colo. class nothing else needs to be said. routledge
was fair but at times he struggles to finish plays.
barton played another solid game as the general in midfield.
he is slowly becoming one of my favorites. hba was just
top class. he is a superstar lads. he will only get
better once he is used to playing with everybody. carrol was all over
the field. didnt have his best game offensively but
he was tracking back and making great plays on d. just
class performance again from the big lad. nobby put in
another solid shift captaining the side.tiote is a warrior.
almostforgot him. great buy he adds metal to the midfield
and had a great game. love this lad.
i would like to see nobby play back some and put hba
behind carrol and jonas back on the left wing. would
rather jonas play then routledge if thats the choice. good
team win.

Comment #44pearceet, it’ll be BS. Hughton will know
a) we can’t afford his wages
b) he’d wreck our team spirit
c) this is the perfect opportunity to bring Krul along for Harper’s retirement
d) he isn’t that much better than Krul.
I don’t think we’ll bring in a keeper, but if we do, I’d guess it would be an average 2nd choice that we’d use as back up in case Krul got sent off or injured.

He has a bit of EPL experience, isn’t too old and dying and is pretty decent so would be a great back-up for Krul.
I’m sure we could afford his wages for 2 months as well. The more I think about it, the better that sounds. If Man Citeh could get the Mackem (can’t remember who) under their circumstances then we should be able to get him.
Great shout

Comment #491) CH did well by dropping smith (forever) and jonas. (too much effort too little end product)
2) Tiote been our missing defensive midfielder sine gary speed
3) Ben Arfa is our current star but remember that teams will now try to stop him at the pitch
4) Campbell won’t be playing when we are still keeping our clean sheet 🙂

Comment #50The good thing is Brutoon, teams can stop Ben Arfa or they can stop Carroll. They can also nullify Joey if they wish, but it would be a hellarfa (see what I did there;)) job to stop all three.
Yesterday they clearly tried to stop Carroll playing, but that left Barton and Hatem to run the show.
There’d aren’t gonna be many teams that can do all three, so at the moment, I’m positive 😀

Comment #52http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1313479/Newcastle-want-sign-Shay-Given-Manchester-City.html
I know Given was a Geordie for a while but than B-Traded us and went to Manchester City. Harper was waiting a while behind Given, and Krul has been waiting for Harper for a while now. I don’t want Given to come to Newcastle. He was with us when we got relegated, left us we went back up without having him. So we can do it without him. No need to sign him. Not saying he is not a good keeper but, its KRUL TIME NOW!

A couple of thoughts on it –
Too early to pronounce on Ben Arfa but great credit to Hoots for having the courage to sign a temperamental star and the confidence to believe he can man-manage him without the team-spirit unravelling. Hope it works out as well as its begun.
Tiote looks an equally shrewd signing.
Williamson has got to watch his step. He was grappling like TV Jackie Pallo.
Surprised to see Ben Arfa fending off Barton as he looked to get himself into trouble.
Everton sliced us open too easily within the final few minutes, mostly in the RB position and we looked vulnerable.

Comment #55i agree with you howay da lads, most team focus on stopping carroll but with ben arfa introduce, its difficult for them to stop us.
Everyone want to stop rooney but berbatov who go for the hatrick…

I don’t want Given back. He would expect to be number 0ne which is totally unfair on Krul who has in turn been waiting a long time to catch a break.

Comment #57F@ck off given, you are no longer welcome at St.James’s park, you left us high and dry, when we needed you most, plus i have faith in young Krul, he has proved himself on more than one occasion, to be FAR MORE than JUST competent in Goal
Give Krul a chance FFS!!

Comment #58If Given isn’t good enough to keep hart out, then why should he keep krul out ? Given burnt his bridges and should stay away.
