Andy Carroll has been given the nod today to start today and another surprise is that Chris Hughton also has Shola Ameobi in the starting line-up, for Newcastle at West Ham this afternoon.
For the first time in a long time away from home, Chris Hughton has gone with a 4-4-2 formation, and Kevin Nolan the Newcastle captain also returns in Newcastle’s midfield, after having a rest last week.
Danny Simpson, as expected, will make his first appearance of the season for the Magpies at right-back, and he replaces James Perch as expected, after Danny has finally recovered from his ankle injury.
It could be that Barton or Nolan will play on the right wing today, as neither Routledge nor Danny Guthrie make the starting eleven, but are included on the bench.
Former Newcastle player Kieron Dyer is not included in the squad at all, and the Newcastle bench is strong with Soderberg, Perch, Taylor (R), Guthrie, Routledge, Smith and Lovenkrands. That bench will give Chris many options throughout the game – depending on how things are going.
This is an attacking side that Chris is playing today, no doubt believing that West Ham’s strength is not in defense, and we expect Newcastle to play an attacking game this afternoon.
We have to hope we get all 3 points by 7:30 pm tonight.

Comment #43We truly are a relegation squad. Unless changes are made I can’t see us turning this around this season. Hammers are making us look like schoolboys already. Sad.

Comment #45Totally agree with Thump about the offside lark. We are playing against forwards who are obviously quicker than our back men, so why play offside? leave lovely space for them behind? Stupid things like this is why managers get questioned.

Comment #49Lol, I guess this shows what a rash and immature decision it was on Hughtons part to scapegoat Perch. Colocinni is the real rat in our defence. The longer he starts the longer we continue to defend abysmally. In due time i will be proven right
