Andy Carroll has been given the nod today to start today and another surprise is that Chris Hughton also has Shola Ameobi in the starting line-up, for Newcastle at West Ham this afternoon.
For the first time in a long time away from home, Chris Hughton has gone with a 4-4-2 formation, and Kevin Nolan the Newcastle captain also returns in Newcastle’s midfield, after having a rest last week.
Danny Simpson, as expected, will make his first appearance of the season for the Magpies at right-back, and he replaces James Perch as expected, after Danny has finally recovered from his ankle injury.
It could be that Barton or Nolan will play on the right wing today, as neither Routledge nor Danny Guthrie make the starting eleven, but are included on the bench.
Former Newcastle player Kieron Dyer is not included in the squad at all, and the Newcastle bench is strong with Soderberg, Perch, Taylor (R), Guthrie, Routledge, Smith and Lovenkrands. That bench will give Chris many options throughout the game – depending on how things are going.
This is an attacking side that Chris is playing today, no doubt believing that West Ham’s strength is not in defense, and we expect Newcastle to play an attacking game this afternoon.
We have to hope we get all 3 points by 7:30 pm tonight.

Comment #83@mackem in disguise: “do one” slang for ‘go away’ preferably as soon as humanly possible. “you” – this one should be obvious. “mackem” insult used in Newcastle, generally aimed in the direction of those native to Sunderland or plastic Newcastle fans. “shite” your state of being.
I will address you as I wish and I do hope I’ve demonstrate a suitable knowledge of the English language and it’s uses. I suggest you either support the team or do one (remember that from earlier?) as I previously suggested.
What’s your next claim, scum? Alan Smith is more technically gifted than Ben Arfa?

Comment #88I don’t know what was going on with harps. He seemed very nervous at times (although nobody can fault his double save), krul is a little too inconsistent for my liking but he thrives on the big games.

Comment #89Only just got a link working – that veetle one from tictac is unreal, cheers for that!
We look completely one sided, not simply in attack, but full stop, we’re playing 3 CM’s and it’s hurting us, Obina has ripped us apart!
Encouraging last few minutes here, Jonas is scaring them!

Comment #98Ryan Taylor must be gutted he cannot get right back berth. All their danger is coming down their left wing against Simpson who is crap. Maybe slightly better than Perch. He has given the ball away every time. They will score again if we keep Simpson on. Central mid is too slow. Otherwise not too bad!!!

Comment #99I really like this formation tbh
4-4-2 turns to 4-3-3 when we’re attacking with Nolan coming forward and Barton going CM and then when we’re deffending we go 6-4-0 with both strikers becoming defenders.
If we have a little more protection on the right to stop Obinna we should be fine.

Comment #105@CT, agree with you there mate. Simpson has been left without cover by Barton when he drifts inside too often.
Have to admit that although Nolan scored the leveller he’s been one step behind all the way. Barton should be in the middle. Maybe Raylor should get a change on the ring wing?

Comment #106On thesaurus.com are you? And if you think that’s an essay I hope I never have the misfortune to see your grades. Perhaps that’s why simple English is confusing to you.
Turkish: I think it’s more of a diamond formation with Nolan back tracking to help our defence. We need Routledge on to balance the play because its very heavily left sided here.

Comment #116@TurkishMagpie thats true . I just think a 4-4-2 formation calls for natural crossers of the ball on the wings…and Rtaylor/Guthrie are the natural crossers we have on our squad.
