Carroll, Ameobi, Nolan And Simpson All Start – In 4-4-2 Formation

Andy Carroll has been given the nod today to start today and another surprise is that Chris Hughton also has Shola Ameobi in the starting line-up, for Newcastle at West Ham this afternoon.

For the first time in a long time away from home, Chris Hughton has gone with a 4-4-2 formation, and Kevin Nolan the Newcastle captain  also returns in Newcastle’s midfield, after having a rest last week.

Danny Simpson, as expected, will make his first appearance of the season for the Magpies at right-back, and he replaces James Perch as expected, after Danny has finally recovered from his ankle injury.

It could be that Barton or Nolan will play on the right wing today, as neither Routledge nor Danny Guthrie make the starting eleven, but are included on the bench.

Former Newcastle player Kieron Dyer is not included in the squad at all,  and the Newcastle bench is strong with  Soderberg, Perch, Taylor (R), Guthrie, Routledge, Smith and Lovenkrands. That bench will give Chris many options throughout the game – depending on how things are going.

This is an attacking side that Chris is playing today, no doubt believing that West Ham’s strength is not in defense, and we expect Newcastle to play an attacking game this afternoon.

We have to hope we get all 3 points by 7:30 pm tonight.

Howay The Lads!!

Nolan is looking more than a bit knackered out there. Think it might be time to sub him off and move Barton into the centre.

That is precisely why Hughton has Barton out wide, he can put in a decent cross.

    R. Taylor has a smashing cross on him, problem is he often needs assistance to get into a crossing position.

    Beautiful run by Barton.

I honestly feel bad for Hammer fans. Their team really is looking like relegation candidates. There’s no passion, no commitment and no drive – just as we looked two seasons ago.

That’s a very good point stevie – but Spurs hadn’t been tipped for relegation for a few seasons.

    Congrats to Joey on MoM!
