Lovenkrands And Guthrie Get Starts Against Fulham

Danny Guthrie gets the nod on the right wing over Wayne Routledge, and experienced Peter Lovenkrands gets his chance for a start up front in the Premier League this afternoon, and is preferred to young Nile Ranger, alongside Andy Carroll against Fulham.

And it looks like Chris Hughton will keep the 4-4-2 formation that he’s used in the last 5 Premier League games.

Joey Barton is serving a 3 match ban and Shola Ameobi, as we expected, is rested so that he can recover from his most recent hamstring injury.

And would you believe that Fulham have no wins away from home this season, and indeed they haven’t won on the road in 24 attempts.

We’re not sure if that’s good news or bad news for Newcastle. 😀

Let’s hope the lads are out for revenge today, because in our last PL home game of the relegation season, Diomansy Kamara scored the only goal of the game. Kamara is a substitute today.

This is a decent side that Hughton has picked, and he’s kept faith with the back four from Wednesday evening – so they have a chance to keep a clean sheet today – hopefully.

Former Newcastle players Hughes and Duff are starting for Fulham.

A win today will put Newcastle right back on track, and that’s just exactly what we are hoping for this afternoon.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique; Guthrie, Tiote, Nolan, Guthrie; Carroll, Lovenkrands.
Subs: Soderberg Campbell Taylor (S)  Xisco Ranger Smith Routledge

Fulham Schwarzer; Kelly, Hughes, Hangeland, Johnson (A)  Davies, Murphy, Gera, Duff; Dempsey, Dembele.
Subs: Pantsil Briggs Greening  Kamara Johnson (E) Etuhu Stockdale

Lover is a lightweight. Not good enough for Prem. Watch him score now!!! Hoots needs a win.

Not bad – the home form is again concerning. if we can make 24 points by 18 games i think we should be fine. Bolton next weekend, that will be a tough one.

dissapointed if im honest. I hate it when we dont score single goal.

We really need a better striker alongside Carroll…

    Still, could have been worse.

Staying positive though, a points a point and we didnt concede any goals.

Well played Carroll and Enrique, showed dedication all game. We really miss barton!!

Bit harsh Rotanda – Schwartz made some great saves. Not ideally but 18 points after 13 games isnt bad.

Its your home form which gets you relegated. Hoots needed a win to keep the fat man off his back. I do not agree because the fat man has given him no support, but I feel that the sands of time are running out for Hoots.

I surely thought we will easily get 3 points out of this game as Fulham was so so so so so lazy the entire game. Lovenkrands should never get a game in the premier league. He is championship standard. Otherwise Tiote is suspended next game vs bolton. But, at least we got one point out of this game but we did drop 2 spots and now into 7th. Great job by Carroll.

The problem with playing Ranger and Lover next to Andy is that they just don’t work. Shola is ideal because he supports the target man, while the other two just run on ahead of him and try and knock one in (not that I’m against that, of course). Nile needs to get a bit more discipline because it seems at times he’s running about like a headless chicken.

Guys granted it wasn’t a great match but lets not get carried away. Survival was and will be the key aim of the season.

So far the season has had so many positives – who’d thought we’d smash the scum 5-1 and go to the emirates and win 0-1. We all know the home form is a concern and i believe CH will get a chance to invest in Jan. As i said in an early post. If we can get 6 points from the next five games i still think we will survive. It was always going to be a ride this season – hang tight and keep the faith!! HWTL

lets put it this way- while i’m disappointed with the draw, I can’t really say any player had a bad game, and credit to fulham, they stopped us getting through on goal. Carroll and Enrique looked excellent, and at times Gutierrez ran through looked world beating, he just needs to be more consistant! As for the criticism of Lovenkrands, sure he had a number of chances, but they were mainly clear cut for someone like Carroll, and not him. Also, Scharwzer played well to deny us.

i hate to say it , but its time to try xisco or best then

loven missed some chances that shola would have put in, however loven is starting a game after a long time.

@jimiley – “it is the home form which gets you relegated”

its your home and away losses that gets you relegated. its the home wins that makes you mid table and its the home and away wins that makes you champions.

5 wins -3 A and 2 H is not bad home form. we are struggling at home, but so long as we keep the point table updated, its all good
