Campbell, Taylor, Carroll and Ameobi Start – Nolan Out Injured

As expected Sol Campbell and Steven Taylor will make their first Premier League starts of the season against Chelsea this afternoon.

And again, as expected, midfielder Cheik Tiote returns from his one-game ban, with Alan Smith on the  bench, after he deputized for the Ivorian at Bolton last Saturday.

But Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan is out of the game with an ankle problem, and Wayne Routledge comes in on the right wing to the side, and Newcastle will attack Chelsea in a 4-4-2 formation, with both local lads, Andy Carroll and Shola Amoebi starting up front.

It looks like Danny Guthrie will have a really important role today, as he in central midfield with Cheick Tiote, so we have to hope the youngster is up for the battle with Chelsea’s top midfield this afternoon.

Patrick van Aanholt is on the bench for Chelsea, after the Dutchman was on loan last February at Newcastle.

The referee for the game today is Andre Marriner.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, S Taylor, Campbell, Enrique; Routledge, Guthrie, Tiote, Gutierrez; Carroll, Ameobi.
Subs: Perch, Kadar, Ranger, Soderberg, Best, Smith, Lovenkrands.

Chelsea: Cech: Bosingwa Ivanovic  Alex Cole; Ramires Mikel Malouda; Kalou Drogba (c) Anelka
Subs:Turnbull, Ferreira, Bruma, van Aanholt, McEachran, Kakuta, Sturridge.

This might just be what is needed to add life into the previous 3 stale performances. I rate Nolan and see him as a big part of the team but Guthrie in the middle might give us a chance to see a new contender for the CM spot.also Nolan in would have meant Guthrie on the right and that just doesn’t work.So all round considering our absentees its not so bad.

I think Saylor is next in line after Smudger for captaincy but it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s changed to Campbell (would prefer Sol tbh).

As much as we’ll miss Nolan I think it could be a blessing in disguise. An actual RW (his ability at this level is still up for question), Guthrie through the centre – my hopes are rising 😀

Shola has been disgraceful so far. Routledge has impressed and the backline have all had a great game.

We sat back too much and defensive games = conceded goals. Push up more, lads.

Bad time to concede but overall a solid first half from the lads. Campbell and Taylor make a better partnership than Colocinni and (anyone really) . Hughton, its time to earn your pay and galvanise the lads for the 2nd half .

Not playin too badly but not takin the chances that have come for us….
Tiote needs to watch his late challenges around the box.
Wayne and Jonas need to get more balls in the box

It’s not a problem of getting balls into the box, it’s a problem of having somebody on the end of them (who isn’t Shola – howay Bambi, prove me wrong).

I’ve a feeling that we’re going to lose these 3 points. We’re standing off and hoping the defensive line or the keeper keeps it out.
