Good news this morning in that Newcastle are reported ready to take Adam Johnson of Man City on loan in January, if they can.
Adam Johnson – would be great player for Newcastle
It appears that Manchester City are ready to let four players leave Eastlands on loan in January, and the Sunday Sun is reporting today that Newcastle may move for the classy England winger Adam Johnson.
With the absence of Ben Arfa, who broke his leg in two places in early October, Newcastle have found they have both a lack of class and a lack of wing strength with Joey Barton and Danny Guthrie having to play out on the wings.
Adam Johnson is a local lad, and he may well be delighted to come to Newcastle for a while, because he’d at least get a game, and there’s little question the boy is a top player in the making. Adam was on Newcastle’s books when very young, but then moved to Middlesbrough.
If Newcastle cannot get Johnson they may be able to go after Shaun Wright-Phillips, who may also be made available by Man City, because he never gets a game.
And Man City boss Roberto Mancini has often criticized the Sunderland-born player, and the only playing time he seems to get, when he gets it, is when he comes on as a late substitute.
But that didn’t stop the 23 year-old from scoring a great winner against Newcastle at the Eastlands in October.
But the Sunday Sun report also says that Mike Ashley would have to be persuaded to bring Johnson to Newcastle, so maybe this is based on some conversation with somebody at the club, Chris Hughton possibly, and it cannot be that strong a possibility, if Mike Ashley is not yet on board.
But Adam Johnson is exactly the type of class player Newcastle need to add to their squad, and can you imagine what the side would be like with Ben Arfa on one wing and Adam Johnson on the other?
Sounds a good deal to us, in fact it sounds a great deal to us.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3I think the lad himself would be keen as he knows he would be putting crosses to Andy. If he is doing a good job at club level he will be more likely to get chosen alongside him for England

Comment #7Oh my god ed! You just made me do an oba flip reading this! Aj is absolute quality tho i have doubts this deal would go ahead if it did it would be the best deal we’ve done in a while. If he came here? Big if? He would be crossing em in for best header in the league & not 2 mention the way the fans would take to him would make him want 2 come home & play for the toon army. This lad would be worth dropping 10m plus on in the summer & him & hba would be best wingers in league by a mile. Comon mike this could the 1st of maybe 4 buys that could get us challenging for euro spots. Hope this happens.

Comment #9Not a chance in hell….. He maybe a local lad but he wants to play in Europe & we’re not there, well not for afew seasons anyways, plus I doubt Ashley will agree to his wages unles Manc ‘Cheating’ Citey pay half… plus there’s the problem of us all having a pop at them for the DeJong tackle with crocked HBA, Mancini may just stick 2 fingers up at us after what was said about him & the club!!! on the other hand he may feel some remorse & allow Johnson to cmoe to us as a replacement for HBA… yeah right, thats really gonna happen.. NOT!!!

Comment #14This would only happen if Man City buy someone even better in January, in which case we should have a cheeky punt at a loan offer with City paying the majority of his wages….we can all dream.

Comment #15Solaidback you are coming out with the typical emotional crap that fans think, you have to realise that this is a business to the people at the top of the clubs.
So the “there’s the problem of us all having a pop at them for the DeJong tackle with crocked HBA, Mancini may just stick 2 fingers up at us after what was said about him & the club!!!”
There is no problem it is purely and simply business if MA and the City board can agree on figures it will be done, if they can’t then it won’t be done it’s as simple as that.
Stop thinking everybody sees football the way you see it, I support the toon as I was born in Byker and the toon is in my heart and there is nothing I can do to change that, but if I were a footballer and another club offered me a better deal then I would probably take it. What’s in my heart does not put food on the table but what’s in the bank does it’s all business.

I would take Adam Johnson in a heartbeat. He’s absolute class but there’s got to be no chance we’ll get him on loan because I’d be gobsmacked if Man City let him go out on loan. It’d be ridiculous. Why loan out someone who is such an asset, even if it is from the bench? Toon fans know that all 2 well from when we were robbed at their place a few weeks ago! Straight off the bench to score a wondergoal and we were all gutted after we well and truly outplayed them.
Sunday Sun dreamland again I think. But I’d love it if I’m wrong.

Comment #19to be fair, they farmed out bellamy this year and he was arguably one of their best players last season.
problem man city have is that they have a lot of players who all expect to be playing every week, and unfortunately for johnson, he’s ranked probably behind 2 or 3 of them, hence his lack of starts this season.
reminds me of the early days at abramovichs chelsea; it’s all well and good buying every bugger going, but sooner or later they’ll be knocking on the managers door if theyre not playing!

Comment #21If we acquired Johnson on a permanent basis, we would have one of the best groups of midfielders in the league.
Think, Tiote Barton, Ben Arfa, Johnson, Jonas, Nolan, Gosling, a group who could play in any side and with backups like Routledge, Loverkrands and those attempting to break into the side frm the youth system, appears we have the basis to become a side to contend with.
Got three decent CD`s and an exceptional RB,
A rising star up front, with Ranger also making progress.
Guess we are not far from being back to where we were under Sir Bobby.
All credit has to go to CH who has not only chosen a good part of the present side but also inspired and gained their respect, no mean feat imo.
Dont lose it all by not giving him the contract he deserves.
Yeah i know i sound like a broken record on that matter (a broken what ?) but face it, he`s done a hell of a job.
