The contract of Swedish International winger Sebastian Larsson runs out in the summer, and his club Birmingham City have so far been unable to get him to sign a new contract.
Seb Larsson – free agent next summer?
We don’t know if Newcastle will be interested or not in this player, but Seb was a Newcastle target a couple of seasons ago, and at the time the Swede said he was honored to be linked with a club like Newcastle.
Well that sounded good, and of course he’s a good winger who can cross the ball very well – hopefully right onto the head of Andy Carroll.
The lad started his career at Arsenal, and was signed by Birmingham City at the end of January 2007, on a four-year deal for a £1M fee, after spending some time on loan at the Midlands club.
And there was news on Sunday that Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing the 25 year-old in January.
The People reported that Sam Allardyce was strongly interested in the winger, and of course Birmingham may be forced to sell in January, so at least they get something for him, rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.
But that will also lower his transfer fee in January, and since Newcastle seem to be after some wingers, we wondered if Chris Hughton may be interested .
As our regular readers will know, we are big fans of Sebastian Larsson, and think he would do very well at a club like Newcastle United.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Possibly, but Johnson would be an inspirational signing and we could switch Jonas to the right where he`d be able to get to the bye line and pull crosses back with his RIGHT foot for Carrol. It would be dynamite pairing and with Gos and Tiote in centre midfield could be very tasty!

Comment #3CT – What? You think Gosling is going to walk into the team in front of Barton as soon as he’s fit?

Comment #4Forgot about Barton?? How about this.
——————Krul
Saylor—–Sol——Collo——–Jose
——————-Tiote
Jonas——-Barton——-Johnson
————————Nolan(linking play)
——————-Carrol
Think we`d win more than we`d lose with this line up.
Bench: Shola/Ranger/Williams/Simpson/Gosling/Harper/Benny(until match fit)

Comment #6The partnership Jonas has with Enrique down the left has not only helped us get forward a lot, but it helps going back as well. With players like Lennon showing what they can do with a turn of pace, I think it’s important that we’re solid there. Why not just play Johnson out there?
I still quite fancy getting David Bentley in to play down the right. Whatever you have to say about him, he’s still a player that could pick Carroll out.
To be honest, I’ve been pretty impressed with Barton out there and Routelidge has shown that he can hold his own against some of the best as well.
I can’t really see that we’d need that many players to come in, other than to bolster the squad. LB and a DECENT RB to cover Simpson and we’re a go g0. Even then, STaylor can play out right and we have young Fergie to play LB, or even LW from what I’ve seen of him.
Bottom line, not that fussed about Larsson, but I wouldn’t be unhappy if we did sign him.

Comment #7Sorry, just re-read that post and it’s jibberish. I was talking about putting Johnson out on the right, not in with Jonas and Jose.

Comment #8Either Kranjcar, Larson or Johnson would be good buys, all can fill the right wing role.
However i like Johnson, he being a childhood fan and i believe the better player of the three.
But would be satisfied with any of the above, as we are in need of a bit of consistency in that area (R/Wing)
Sure Jonas can play there, but his linkup play and the understanding he has with Enrique, it would be foolish to break up the duo by shifting him to the right side.

Comment #9Have to say Tiote and Gosling, gives us great cover @ DM, Joey & Ben Arfa, give us a good AM pair, Jonas @L/wing, .
A good future pairing of Carroll & Ranger up front.
Need a decent R/winger and an attacking R/wingback, Johnson and young Coleman @ Everton could be that pairing.
With Colo. and Taylor paired as CD`s and young Ferguson as backup for El Toro.
Our young team for the next few years ?

Comment #12But, on topic, if we have a chance to get half of the players we’ve been linked with Larrson would be at the lower end of the ladder.

Comment #16The way all these transfer rumours are going at the moment and Chris saying that no players are going out, FIFA will have to change the laws to allow us to field 15 + players.

Comment #17No point in us signing a Scandinavian anyway, We’d just have Joey, Colo and Williamson beating up on him. 🙂
