There’s a report out there today that Newcastle United may be interested in West Ham’s Swiss wing back Valon Behrami, which we hope is not true.
Valon Behrami – Newcastle interested in this West Ham Swiss International?
The 25 year-old Swiss international is said to be considering putting in an official transfer request if the form of the West Ham side doesn’t improve soon – well how’s that for loyalty.
Rather than putting in a transfer request, maybe he should think about playing better for West Ham.
And it’s also reported that Italian sides Juventus and Roma are interested in the player, but with West Ham beating Wigan last weekend, maybe Valon’s already changed his mind about wanting away.
We’ve watched Behrami a number of times over the last couple of seasons, both for West Ham and Switzerland, and at best he seems an average player, and hardly the type of top class player Newcastle need, if they want to improve their current squad.
Behrami was born in Titova Mitrovica, Yugoslavia to Albanian parents in 1985, and they moved to Stabio, a village in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, when the boy was very young.
Valon was at Lazio from 2005 until he joined West Ham in 2008 on a five-year contract for a fee of around £5M, and the player has now played 28 times for Switzerland with a couple of goals.
As we said, we hope this report has no truth in it at all.

Comment #1Agreed… He seems to have alot of promise but has not lived up to it and I would rather go somewhere else for a winger.
So which winger are we going to go after…
SWP
Behrami
A Johnson
I think a right winger is needed but not something to rush. It seems the Beckford deal would of been bad and with barton and Routeldge able to play on the right and cover in the middle I think we are able to cover until the summer unless we can get a stout signing like AJ.

Comment #2Just exactly where does he fit in, dont think he`s a wing back or as it`s also known RB, he`s not a winger, but plays in the midfield, right ?
Cant say i have been that impressed by him, not to say he is`nt a decent player.
But rather have Kranjcar, Larson or definately Johnson.

Comment #3Nova, SWP, you got to be kidding, we cannot afford his current wages, and the boy is asking for more!

Comment #4Foolish comment Ed i totally disagree with you.. Behrami would be an excellent pickup and no better time then now while his stock his as low as possible..Would be a steal if we can get him for anything less then 5M would fit right into CH model of buying very talented players at a bargain Willo,Tiote,Hba,Simpson and Behrami would certainly go down as 1 if we landed him… Very flexible anything in the Midfield and either Lb or Rb and has a excellent motor so dont mislead us Ed he would be welcomed

Comment #5totally agree brklyngeordie, I reckon behrami is a good player. not world class or anything like that, but hes got bags of pace and he knows where the goal is. I reckon something like 2 maybes 3 million would get him, last thing west ham would want is someone causing a fuss in their position. I really do find your judgement puzzling on this one ed. especially as at the moment we only have 2 proper wingers (routledge and gutierez) add ben arfa and behrami and we’re laughing.
