One of the world’s top strikers, Chelsea’s Didier Drogba, has today said how impressed he’s been with Newcastle’s new England striker – Andy Carroll.
Andy Carroll – Drogba so impressed with 21 year-old striker
The Ivory Coast captain told Sky Sports today, that he sees similarities between the Newcastle striker and himself:
“I’ve been very impressed with him,” “People say I’m good in the air but he’s not bad either!”“What he does, and what I like to do, is attack the ball.”
“You have to do this to give it the direction you want, whether you are flicking it on to one of your team-mates or going for goal yourself.”
It will be good that Andy sees this comment, but the Geordie lad has never seemed short on confidence, and he even seems to be taking the publicity he gets in his stride, and in the right way.
Andy knows his real job is to score goals goals week in and week out for Newcastle United, and if he needs another good role model to follow it’s got to be Alan Shearer.
Alan was so consistent in scoring goals in his career, and that is why when he had a barren spell, it was all over the newspapers.
And barren spells will come to Andy too, and how he handles them will further decide just how successful he can be for both Newcastle and England.
From what we’ve seen of Andy in the last 16 months he could become a great striker, not only for Newcastle United, which is the most important thing, but for England too.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3Haha nice call iaran. He needs to learn to back into defenders and win free kicks the way Shearer did. Its odd. We seem to have a striker that can score one in 2 3rds of his games, It be great if he could get a few more often but I guess we are blessed having him. actually i know we are blessed having him

Comment #5Neither has Drogba. The closest I remember either of them coming to having dreadlocks was Andy Carroll, but they were corn-rows.

Comment #6if carroll could carry on developing at the pace he has in the last 18 months, we could have a real gem on our hands here.
to think that this time last year he only had 3 or 4 goals in total for the first team, now look at him!
can’t complain about his scoring record this season, or his work rate and while it may be flattering for him to have drogba praise him, i think carroll is far more of a team player than drogba – i mean just look at how quick drogba was to strop and moan last sunday!

Comment #7to be fair to didier, he has stopped diving since mourinho left and when you see real madrid these days then mabe he was instructed to be like that by jose.
i would agree that carroll has massive potential and is already a great striker but drogbas the best in the league and has been for some time and he does do his bit for the team even if he does like a strop.
hopefully big andy can develop his skill and control to go with that drive and power he has. then maybe one day in the not so distant future, people will be calling big andy the best striker in the league.
