Of Course Only Chris Hughton Picks The Newcastle Side

There have been some reports in the gossip press that senior players on Tyneside, help Chris Hughton to pick the Newcastle side.

Chris Hughton – of course this man picks the Newcastle side

But those were stupid and rather vicious stories last week, probably to undermine Chris’ position as Newcastle, and we didn’t believe them one little bit.

There have always been mischief makers on Tyneside, and both Graeme Souness and Sam Allardyce have talked about it on Tyneside, and they always try to make it hard for the Newcastle manager.

Who those people are, whether they are in the club, part of the local media or what – we really have no idea – but they are hardly helpful to Newcastle United.

Chris Hughton remains in complete control of team selection, as Chris talked about those nonsense reports today:

“I can tell you categorically 100 per cent that there’s only one person here who selects the team and that will be the normal process.”

“I will select the team. You sometimes confide in your assistants, very much Colin Calderwood when he was here, but certainly not with players.”

“It’s an impossibility. If you go down that road, it’s very dangerous.”

And with Chris’ contract running out next June, we have to hope that Mike Ashley will take good care of the manager, who thoroughly deserves a new contract on Tyneside, and the sooner the better.

A win tomorrow at West Brom could even help accelerate that new contract being signed.

Do you know what, sometimes the media circus around our club is nothing but damaging but at the minute, it seems everything the papers write is simply bringing everyone together.

Not since Sir Bobby have I seen so many fans, pundits and opposition so behind a manager. Our players work hard for each other week in week out, you can tell their off-the-field friendships are genuine and despite having an owner who was vehemently despised by so many, we’ve not looked this unified from top-to-bottom in years!

Keep up the bull$h1t, it’s only fuel for our boys!

    The Sun’s sports office.

Mike Dunn (Sports Editor). “Well Dave as usual there’s nothing coming out of the Newcastle dressing room.”

Dave Ward. “Yeah I know Mike. Same old story since Hughton took over as manager. What should I do?”

Mike. “Well Dave you could do what we always do in these circumstances.”

    Dave. “You don’t mean?”

    Mike. “That’s right.”

Dave. “How about, Chris’s senior players pick the team?”

Mike. “Not bad Dave. Get onto it.”

Funny scenario GeordieGerman but that story is not exactly an orphan. It has been knocking around on blogs like this one ever since Thompson House wrote about the players’ meeting after the Orient match. Since then whenever Smith or Nolan have had a below-par game and still been picked for the next one, rumours and theories along those lines have been in circulation.
To some extent, we make it easy for them – we reveal our fears on here and then read about them on the back pages the next morning …..so it WAS true!
