We had said Joey Barton would be a key player this afternoon for Newcastle United at West Brom, but now he’s been ruled out injured, and that’s bad news.
Joey was expected to return to the first team after serving his 3 game suspension for violent conduct, but is now out through injury, which is a big blow to Newcastle.
So in that case, Chris has names an unchanged side from the starting eleven that did so well against Chelsea last Sunday, and that gives another chance to Danny Guthrie in central midfield, and Wayne Routledge out on the right wing.
For West Brom, Somen Tchoyi starts and manager Roberto Di Matteo makes one enforced change to the side that beat Everton 4-1 last weekend.
Tchoyi comes into midfield in place of Youssouf Mulumbu, who is serving the second game of a two-match ban.
Chris Brunt moves into the center of midfield with Tchoyi out on the right wing.
The referee for the game is Mike Dean of Wirral shown above – he gives lots of penalties.
Howay The Lads!!
WBA -Carson; Jara, Scharner, Tamas, Cech; Dorrans, Brunt; Tchoyi, Morrison, Thomas; Odemwingie.
Subs: Myhill, S Reid, Barnes, Fortuné, Cox, Ibanez, Shorey.
Newcastle United: Krul; Simpson, S Taylor, Campbell, Enrique; Routledge, Guthrie, Tiote, Gutierrez; Ameobi, Carroll.
Subs: Soderberg Kadar Perch Smith Lovenkrands Ranger Best

Seems like that the match can go either way now. :O

big miss, as much for defensive qualities as anything.
they’ll play five across midfield, and without nolan and barton could dominate.
a lot will be on Tiote’s mighty shoulders.

Gutted, completely changed the dynamic!
Still, nout we can do about it now…I hope Danny’s distribution improves 10x today ’cause he had me worried last week with the amount of pointless knee high balls he was playing!
Tiote will need to be on form but we also need to look for Routledge and Gutierrez to put in the yards to relieve pressure!

Hopefully guthrie can prove his worth

If we get a bad result today, hopefully they would reconsider buying some decent players coming January.Someone like Johnson..D:/

Agree with @6.
Guthrie needs to step it up now. He needs to prove he’s not another fat kid with a good occational pass. Today he’s up against CM’s like Scharner.. also knows as a rock. Step up Guthrie.

pearceet – yeah that’s me…Been on 606 for years and it’s the first time I’ve ever been featured, a little tearful at the minute!

I just cant get on it! No matter what ridiculous transfer rumour i make up on deadline day in order to try and get on!!
Dec 5, 2010 at 1:12 PMComment #13
Shhhh it… ! Anyone know what Joey’s got and how long he’s out for
Dec 5, 2010 at 1:20 PMComment #14
Without Barton (or Ben Arfa and to some extent Nolan), there is next to no creativity in the midfield. We need a bit of luck or at least very hard work to score goals today.
Dec 5, 2010 at 1:32 PMComment #15
Want a convincing win today, don’t like the away strip though.
Dec 5, 2010 at 1:35 PMComment #16
We are starting slow again.
Dec 5, 2010 at 1:38 PMComment #17
They’re roughing up Carroll too in the early stages, need to give defence an option when we’re clearing the lines, Campbell is struggling to find a way out
Dec 5, 2010 at 1:43 PMComment #18
We’re spectators < 10 minutes

Our possession is terrible.

Bad news re: Barton. I only hope it’s not his ankle again.
Dec 5, 2010 at 1:51 PMComment #21
This is a training ground exercise of attack versus defence. We are playing WBA but making them look like Barca. We will probably win this one even though we look relegation material!!!!!!
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:02 PMComment #22
jonas crossing looks better today
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:04 PMComment #23
what’s the point of playing routeledge.
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:04 PMComment #24
we have been unbelievably bad today. We deserve nothing from this game the way we are playing. Pathetic
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:06 PMComment #25
We won’t be winning today. We look rubbish! This is such a frustrating season. We are hopeless in the offensive third today.
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:07 PMComment #26
Jonas looks tired, id give him the rest of the half to pick up. Pretty poor so far. Its those blue shirts!
Amoebi has lost possesion 1 too many times also.
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:07 PMComment #27
Jonas missed the tackle on edge of box and they scored. Just watch Jonas because he constantly gives the ball away. He is the weakest player in a weak team. This performance so far against another struggling team is chronically poor. Stroller is the captain!!!! Sums it all up.
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:07 PMComment #28
We are playing with 9 men Ameobi is pathetic n wakey wakey Jonas….. terrible
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:10 PMComment #29
campbell also look slow today…come on after all that talk last week…
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:11 PMComment #30
We cannot build an attack. We are relying on long balls to win corners. Absolute rubbish and an embarrassment. The sands of time are running out for Hoots. Ed, do you still think we are heading in the right direction?
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:11 PMComment #31
Ameobi is one lazy guy
Routledge only got the ball like in the 15 mins?
Campbell did nervous all the time
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:11 PMComment #32
This is why we got relegated…….
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:12 PMComment #33
No chance of a win. 5 in there midfield is stopping routledge getting down the right and guttierez has been useless and reluctant to go past people. Even if we get past them we can’t cross a ball for carroll. Ameobi is useless in possession and we losing possession way to easily. Absolute garbage!!
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:13 PMComment #34
scary how much we rely on barton..
hope houghton makes some early subs for once. Ameobi out and anyone else in.
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:15 PMComment #35
I am not saying we will be relegated but we are definitely going to end up in the mix. Its plain to see but will the fat man spend a cent in January? We all know the answer to that don’t we? The plan is to survive and then spend nowt again. What sort of plan is that, except a slow death.
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:17 PMComment #36
Ameobi is lazy cos he is only on 40 grand a week. Put him on 60 with Smudger and we may see him stroll a bit more.
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:18 PMComment #37
More fantastic set pieces from Guthrie…..sigh
and to be fair Carroll hasnt been playing great either. Lacking that spirit so far. The whole team are just so sluggish. Did they all get drunk last night?
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:19 PMComment #38
For the first 40 mins, we allowed WBA to hold the ball all the time.
our best play was the last 5 mins of half time
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:21 PMComment #39
Backing off far to much cant see us turning this game around hope i’m wrong.
Dec 5, 2010 at 2:21 PMComment #40
Tiote only effective player. Everyone else pretty bad. Need a shake up. Get ameobi off and ranger on.
